Thought I would post a followup: After exploring various options, I attempted to setup a kind of "intervention" so that my whole family and the family therapist could all be involved in hearing the news and deciding what to do. However, the mother became suspicious too quickly and I finally had to simply take her on a walk around the block and tell her. I showed her the report, told her why I had gotten the test done, and said I was very conflicted and didn't know what to do next. Her responses …

I want to thank everyone-- and I do mean everyone-- who responded. I wanted a broad set of opinions and I got them. It's a bad situation, and it will take a long time to resolve and then recover from.

Months pass means the baby is over 6 months old. I've been acting as the father for that time. As I understand it, in my state, I have up to two years before the court will make me the de facto father, regardless of DNA.

Scenario 1: Custody battle completely fails, mother takes off with kid, sues me for child support because I'm named on the birth certificate. Scenario 2: Mother calls actual father (assume she knows who it is) -- or actual father finds out and shows up on his own. He/they get custody, sue me for child support. Win because I'm named on the birth certificate. One thing that is not really being said, but is on my mind: this kid HAS an actual father. No matter what happens between the mother and me,…

Yes, that thought has crossed my mind. If you count back 40 weeks from conception, it comes out to about three weeks before our one nighter.

This is pretty much the core issue for me. I have a lot of other "knight in shining armor" stories in my past where I suffered great setbacks in my life to save someone else. It did not end well. I have to take care of me. But in looking at my feelings, I care about the baby. And that's what's ripping me up. She looks for me to put her to bed and comfort her when she gets an owie. Everything about this sucks... If she were an orphan, I'd adopt her in a minute. But she comes with this enormous ba…

Advice on documenting the episodes? I've heard recordings made without he consent are illegal and inadmissible. Also, there's been no sex, kissing, hand-holding -- nothing more than a hug here and there since the birth of the child.

Family members are redditors and very few are aware of the DNA test. But if you don't believe me there's still plenty of other reddit to spend your time with. Enjoy.
