Wow. I was just reading about population decline today and said, “I haven’t checked TRP in a while, I bet there’s a recent post about it in there”. What do you know I come across this intelligent piece of information. Really appreciate the thinking you put behind this, it’s why I used to frequent this sub often. If you pay attention to the U.S. news this week, your theories are proving correct here as well. Will be a very interesting next few years, I think the “declines” often theorized about h…

Thank you for coming in with different perspective, appreciate it above all the fray of negativity in here. -Signed a man soon approaching proposal to a woman that actually compliments my life and lifestyle in a positive way. Is that a bad thing?

Needed to read this. I’m in a 6 year LTR, it’s basically shit or get off the pot time this summer. What convinced you to finally throw a ring on it? I keep waiting for that moment that says “I’m ready”, but it just hasn’t happened yet. We’re approaching 30 so I want to be respectful of her personal timeline with kids, etc., but damn is this decision scary.

Damn. I needed to see this. Currently with a girl for 6 years that checks a lot of boxes, but the craving for something novel is heavily there. Been considering breaking it all off because of it even though everything else is good.

Thanks for giving me some hope for marriage. Curious, how did things change between you and your wife post-marriage? I think my biggest fear of it is often hearing “the woman you date won’t be the woman you marry”. Lots of fear mongering, hoping I can hear something more positive haha.

My mother unfortunately has stage IV cancer that will someday take her life. It was a big blow at first but you eventually learn to cope. One thing that really helped me was to focus on what you can control. In “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” he talks about identifying what’s within your circle of concern, circle of influence, and circle of control. Each of those gets smaller as you go down the line. Your parents and their health are most certainly in your circle of concern and you may be …

100% agree, I have RP friends that can’t form bonds after all the shit they’ve been through with women. I just think at some point we all need to grow up and recognize that each and every one of us is flawed in one way or another and to expect perfection (looks, personality, sex life, etc) out of your partner is unreasonable. We as men need to be firm in our values; what we believe, what we expect out of our relationships, and what we want to achieve in life. If you’re aligned with yourself on t…

You’re not weak unless you say you are. Pick up a new hobby my man. There’s an endless amount of content on YouTube to teach you whatever you want to do (musical instruments, wood working, whatever it is you’re interested in. We live in an age where there’s no excuse for boredom. You should always be pushing yourself to learn and apply yourself. It’s easy to get complacent (I struggle with it constantly), but right now is the perfect opportunity to take a chance on learning something. Happy to h…

I'm currently in the same boat, been together going on 5 years. She's a great girl with little to none of the red flags a lot of guys discuss here. Has a great family, great career (makes more than I do, harder worker than most people I know), and has her own life/hobbies. Like you, I'm taking the leap on cohabitating prior to getting engaged/married this year. We both come from religious backgrounds and can completely understand the hesitancy from people that don't try it, but everything I've h…

What made you end it? 4 years is a long time. I’m going on 5 and feeling the pressure.

Also curious about this. 27 over here and am in a bit of a quarter life crisis. Always interested when I see older guys posting here.

Mixture of both. I’ve had a bit of the “grass is greener” mentality. I’ve been more or less asked out by women that I once thought were way out of my league. Crazy what getting in shape, being put together, and holding a normal conversation can do. I’m also worried about the time commitment. I like my space and fear this would encroach on that. What about you?

Damn, this seemed to hit the nail on the head. As far as I can remember, the question/phrase has always included a “me”, which tells me comfort, but I’m not 100% sure. What is DEER again?? Remember reading this in another post.

How’s you go about it? What was the ultimatum?

I’ve had similar thoughts. The more I’ve thought about it though “open relationships” are a total joke. One person is bound to slay more than the other and the individual getting less in the relationship is bound to get jealous. My game with women has increased exponentially over the last 5 years. It’s a weird thing, cause the more your value/game goes up, the more attracted your girl will be to you due to indirect dread. At 1.5 years, I’d tell you to push back on that in a joking manner. Like “…

Kinda where my head is at. Like “giving me an ultimatum over this?” I see that as moving in together is more important to you than the relationship itself

I get somewhat where she’s coming from, girls are on a different timeline than us guys. I think she could be the right one to start a family with, etc. I worry it’s “right girl, wrong time” type of situation. A piece of me wants to go for it, another is like “ok, it’s this or you’re done with me? goodbye”. Big struggle at the moment, this is my first LTR and these things are tough business

I went through this recently with my LTR of 4.5 years, I’m 26 so a couple years older than you. I ultimately decided to stay with her. I realized my mind was in the pattern of thinking of all the things I didn’t have versus recognizing the things I did, this applied both inside and outside of the relationship. I finally took a step back, recognized I’m in great health/shape, have a great career, and have an awesome girl that wants to tag along for the fun. These are all things that others would …

How long were you both in LTRs? I’m getting antsy as well. Been with her a few years but coming into my prime and feel the need to spread that seed. It’s tough cause she’s great, I just can’t help but want to go off like a Lone Wolf.

“Just quit porn!” All the guys make it sound so easy, right? It’s not easy. It’s an addiction and needs to be treated as such. I’m not going to tell you to quit cold turkey because there’s few people that can end an addiction that quickly. Start weaning yourself off it or You will relapse hard; 4 times a week, then 3 times a week, then 2, etc. The times you’re tempted? Put on some shoes and go for a walk outside and walk until the temptation is gone. You can do it, but it’s not easy, especially …

Don’t make it about SMV. Your SMV is increased when you find something you enjoy and become great at it. People will naturally gravitate toward that. Hobbies are supposed to be something that benefit YOU! Quit caring if it will raise your SMV. Learn something fun and learn to do it well and your value will naturally increase.

To add to this, would you say you have any regrets over your decision to end it? If you could go back would you have done things differently?

Damn, sorry to hear that. Sounds nearly identical to where I’m at though. It’s easy to rag on women but when push comes to shove it’s truly difficult breaking someone’s heart unless you’re a true sociopath. Tough situation to say the least, totally relate to the people trying to make you feel guilty. Those types of people suck.

Very accurate. Many of our friends are starting to get hitched and I think that’s what sparked this whole thing (outside of us being together a while). What is at risk if your wife makes more money than you? I guess I’m struggling with the risk outside of being stuck to one wet hole for the rest of my days.

Thanks for this. It does get old dealing with outside influences trying to impact your own life and relationship. With our current culture, my biggest fear is that I never find a girl like her again. On the other side of the coin, as we all here know, our current culture also opens up a lot of opportunity for men that are willing to take risks with women. It’s a double edged sword at the moment.

I feel like cheating is a slippery slope. I lack morals in many areas of my life, but don’t think cheating is the answer here. More times than not, I see cheaters getting caught. If I go that route I may as well break up IMO.

Good point, I absolutely don’t owe an answer right now. In respect for her though, I have no interest in wasting more of her time. I guess if I take your perspective it’s really up to her to decide if she wants to take the risk and wait for me or go her own way, correct?

Pretty much nailed it. Believe me, I do not have oneitis. I understand there’s others out there that could possibly meet or even exceed what I currently have. I meet other women that practically throw themselves at me, a piece of me sometimes thinks that’s due to the IDGAF attitude developed from having a LTR. For the record, she could probably find better than me as well. I’m happy and generally successful, but I’m not going to pretend like I’m some perfect individual without flaws. My main con…

Honestly, a piece of me thinks I’m getting bored and am craving some strange. I miss the freedom of being able to walk into a bar and walk out with whomever I want, I feel like I’m missing out on something. She’s a cute girl but I have no doubt I could climb the ladder on the HB scale if I chose. In terms of personality/quality, I think she’d be tough to beat. Not one of those garbage feminists, makes more money than me, and has good values. My biggest knock is her anxiety, but it’s pretty manag…

...she makes more than me. She has a bright career path ahead, makes more than most people our age. Based on what I’ve seen, that isn’t slowing down anytime soon either. Makes it even tougher.

“I’ve been here”. Can you tell me a bit more of your story? I’m lost to say the least and it’s really upsetting me to even think of breaking this girls heart. She is a very genuinely nice person and comes from a good family, wish love was easier...

If you have the finances for it, the Taylor Big Baby and GS Mini are great beginner guitars. Their fretboards are much easier to learn on due to their shrunken down size. It is difficult on a full scale guitar to get the finger positioning down when you are new, not to mention it will kill your fingers (takes a couple weeks to develop callouses). If you don’t have the money for those models, go to a Guitar Center or something and check out their selection. They have plenty of solid Yamaha’s or F…

Highly recommend picking up a guitar or piano and learning some basic music. There are plenty of guitar lessons on YouTube that are really great and you can get a decent guitar for ~$100. Always impressive when someone can play well.
