I highly recommend against lying, particularly when attempting to build any kind of relationship. The reason is simple: once you are caught in a lie, even a minor one, trust is shattered. From that moment on, the other person will always doubt your honesty. Rebuilding trust after it has been broken is extremely difficult, if not impossible.

I'm in the United States, Arizona specifically. I've been finding that whenever I'm asked to go to another app to chat, like WhatsApp, Telegram, Skype, or whatever communication app exists, they are scammers looking to get me off the dating app to stop me from reporting them. It's a huge red flag for me. If they get my cell number, the number of scamming text messages I get increases. It's not worth getting off the dating app until I meet them in person.
