2	When keeping it real goes wrong Ehh I think you’re missing the point. “Mansplaining” is when a man explains something to a woman because he assumes she knows less because she’s a woman, but she turns out to know as much or more. The situation you’re describing is different, because in your scenario you happen to know that you have more expertise than the woman in this case. 28	When keeping it real goes wrong The only charitable interpretation of “mansplaining” I’ve heard is when a man explains something to a woman with shared knowledge or expertise, because he’s presumed (either consciously or unconsciously) that she doesn’t know because she’s a woman. The example is usually for women engineers or IT workers or other traditionally male roles etc, where in spite of having shared expertise women feel like they aren’t treated as seriously as male colleagues.
