Directly implied in the term is a social measurement against a characteristic, no matter what that is, and those who have it get laid and those who do not, do not. Women historically sought out wealthier, healthier, mates to raise their child with precisely because they had resources that more typical men did not. I have to disagree, there's a long, ugly historical record of violence against groups representing working class men. It goes WAY further back than the labour movement, too. The history of the franchise starts back in a muddy field at Runnymede, with the first steps to restrict the power of monarchs and establish firm rights for freemen and nobles. I think much of it is to do with the near total removal of class from public discourse. That's by design. Prior to intersectional feminism, terms like 'racism', 'sexism', 'classism' were pretty firmly defined and most people generally accepted the definitions. Intersectional feminism sought, as one of its goals, to insert the notion of a power gradient, defined (of course) by intersectional feminism so that their normal bugaboos were considered the powerful, ie. white, male and straight.
