I see what you mean, but it's not about heart rate: in people with my defect, the ascending aorta has a tendency to expand more than in normal people, and isometric exercises, doctors told me, make the blood pressure rise very high; coupling the fact that I have a natural tendency to have an expanded ascending aorta, doctors fear that over time my aorta walls will grow too thin and they will rupture.

First off, I'd like to thank you for your answers. The last doctor I talked to a couple months ago said that I can't lift weight, specifying that I can't even lift my own weight, so no bodyweight. I've been talking to doctors every time I go for the routine check-up visit (every couple of years), and I've always been told that bodybuilding and lifting weights are a no-no for me, and I can do every sport that requires body movement. And yes, my goal is to build muscle.

Sure, my bad for not pointing this out from the start: I have a congenital heart defect (bicuspid aortic valve). edit: forgot the "not" between for and pointing.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
