The patriarchy as defined by feminism has never existed in the US. Gender roles were created out of a need to survive. It was never about empowering men at the expense of women. Most of the men who died in WW1 couldn't even vote

I don't see a dichotomy between being authentic and pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone. You can still be yourself, while putting yourself in situations that make you uncomfortable or touching a girl more than you're comfortable with. You don't need dumb pickup strategies to push the envelope and get over anxiety.
