Of course he won't want to see a doctor; cluster Bs believe the problem lies with everyone else, so they rarely get the treatment they need. This is part of the reason of why it's so hard to treat. I spent 2 years in a relationship with an undiagnosed BPD woman. I understand your exhaustion. No it does not get better, only worse. The bottom line is that you didn't cause it, you can't control it, and you can't fix it. The only way out is complete no contact and elimination of this person from you…

Google cluster B personality disorders; specifically NPD and BPD. Do either/both of those sound like his behavior?

4K is a good starting point, but you need to see how your body reacts. Eat that for a couple weeks, weigh yourself daily, and track your progress. You're aiming for .5-1lb of gains a week, and at least 1g of protein per pound of body weight. I could be wrong, but the way you worded your original post, I'm guessing that you're not currently lifting, and don't have much of a lifting history. The good news is that this is a great time to take advantage of those noob gains. Congrats on the new job. …

Last year I bulked from 173 to 212. I considered going to 220 but being a lean guy my whole life, I just couldn't stand being so fat and decided to cut. Sure, my gains were good but had plenty of fat to go with them. At a rate of 1lb+ a week, I'd guess was gaining about 50/50 fat/muscle as a then 37-yo. For me, bulking until I couldn't bulk anymore was the right answer. Now that I'm cutting, LeanGains FTW. You don't necessarily need to do this in one shot. I don't see a reason why you can't bulk…

I like the SL 5x5 stuff on the type I muscle fibers, but it may not hit the type II muscle fibers as hard as a higher volume program might. AFAIK the research indicates higher rep work hits the type II fibers more effectively. Type II muscle fibers have more growth potential than the type I fibers. For aesthetics, you want to hit both fiber types. For inspiration, check out Greyskull LP and Layne Norton PHAT. This year I've put on 22 lbs so far, basically I do 2 sets of 3-5 RM and then a burnout…

Former AF communications officer here, joined at 27 after college. Lots of good advice in this thread. I'd only add that you want to stay as far away from the Army as you can. Part of me wishes I joined the Marines at 18; not necessarily for the OJT (marines get the worst gear) but just for the RP attitude they seem to instill. For a 4-and-done, it will be a great experience. Good luck!

Let me pepper you with kisses so you don't run away Good post. Question: isn't this reinforcing her BS? My response is more of a mocking "aww that's adorable" then ignore. I'm still trying to find the right balance of BP/RP in my LTR. Thoughts? Thanks

This is a poor investment strategy, and even worse for a beginner. Picking individual stocks in 'diverse industries' (somehow you mention index funds)? Using beta...is this 1975? Growth fund? Perhaps you should look at the bogleheads wiki link I posted in this thread. I also have an MBA, and at no time was personal investment strategy ever covered. I'm not even sure CFAs get that. If this is what you learned at school, get a refund ASAP.

+1. I'm in a similar situation (bulking + ice hockey). As a IIFYM guy, I always replace the calories I burned via carbs. I'm already getting 1g/lb lbm in protein per day, and sufficient fat.

I like this. You could probably use this as a response to her last text, then be done with it. Amused mastery might help eliminate the pissy vibe. Her: "You can say more than that even if it's not nice." You: "lol. I had a good time. Good luck!"

Read up on Layne Norton and muscle protein synthesis (MPS) wrt feeding schedules. From what I can tell, it doesn't look like you can maximize MPS with a restricted eating window, plus think about all the calories that you'd need to cram into that window. But if LG works better for someone, they should stick with it.

link? I just started my bulk, not too late to switch programs. TIA

Disagree. Leangains/IF is great for cutting (just did a cycle myself), but not optimal for bulking. Eat big, watch your macros (protein especially), and look into a hypertrophy-focused (as opposed to strength-focused) lifting program.
