I think the problem is in assuming one sex is “superficial” and the other is “deep.” What really happens is that men and women tend to separate out different aspects of the same thing. Porn strips sex down to the body without the person. Romance novels strip it down to emotions and fantasy without the person. Both are distortions. Real intimacy isn’t just bodies or just feelings... it’s the whole person. When either side gets isolated, whether through porn or through idealized romance, it turns …

Because women attract men to events, and men will pay a premium to be around women. Clever sex discrimination marketing.

Michael Knowles had an awesome take on the Barbie movie, and why he loved it. It's also why my entire family loved it. Most people (including Shakira) seemed to have missed this interpretation: https://youtu.be/XJ28EZBpWwM?si=pm1ZFDVaEJ5Ut-Ki

Ask Uber. First ones with big data to prove that there is a gap, but it's caused by women accepting less work, at the wrong times of day, and underperforming compared to male colleagues. Uber's Gender Pay Gap Study May Show The Opposite Of What Researchers Were Trying To Prove (forbes.com)

Never-ending complaining. Related to this is: complaining to get help instead of just politely asking for help.

I never repeat that miserable phrase. My preferred alternative (which should be the mainstream narrative) is this: "Happy spouse, happy house." Covers both partners quite nicely.

A new theory held by a minority of researchers, who seem to be anachronistically applying the modern practices of a few dozen modern hunter-gatherer tribes to the ancient practices of our species. I'll stick to the majority view.

Weaving baskets, breastfeeding, grinding meal, and chitchatting with the other gals, while the men hunt, fish, build, and farm... For a couple hundred thousand years... Leaves it's mark on a species.

I don't have any advice for your situation now... but I wonder if you could record the breakup conversation and have the gf attest to your good character and good treatment of her... as insurance against this kind of stuff later. Perhaps You could even tell her you're recording the conversation as protection for *her* so you can never bad-mouth her later (and vice versa). Obviously, this is challenging to do, but on the surface, it seems like it could be arranged.

I have a dashcam in my car that can record the vehicle interior, for this very reason. I drive different people around (as do my family members) and we will need evidence if we ever get #MeToo'd unjustly after giving someone a ride.

Thank you for noticing this bizarre complaint, and not falling for it yourself. Men also experience mental load, we just don't talk about it... instead, we deal with the things we are dealing with, and move on to the next thing.

Met my wife when we were both 22 or 23. I was in debt, no fashion sense, not interested in a relationship, but I was smart and decent looking, and finishing university. She was beautiful, had money, but also not interested in a relationship. Married for almost 25 years now. So, you can break the pattern, my friend.

Thank you for supporting! My wife and I occasionally fall into the error of explaining things to each other like we do to our young children. So I can definitely believe the husband's justification.

The flipside is that if the father was allowed to cancel their own financial responsibility for the child, then the mother could claim that this lack of support is forcing them to choose abortion because they cannot afford the child solo. So, allowing the father to avoid their financial responsibility, could be said to force the mother to have an abortion. These are the kinds of insane double whammies that arise when we allow either parent to avoid their responsibility to bear and raise the resu…

Thank you for your care and concern. My older sisters and mother taught me to hate myself because I "have something hanging between your legs", as they put it when I was a child. That was 40+ years ago, and things did not get any better with the girls and teachers in elementary, high school, university, and workplace. The major unchecked hatred has been brewing for decades, sadly.

If they claim that such a system of oppression exists, on what grounds are they permitted to denigrate all men who have ever lived, who live now, and who will live, by naming it "the patriarchy"? The generalization is an insult to all men who have sacrificed for the women in their lives.

I initially thought it was stupidly misandrist and juvenile. I watched the entire season, and my opinion slowly changed. I realized that other characters were not like that. I slowly became aware that she was written as overconfident and fallible, and her own worst enemy. She learned some hard lessons about overreaching and grew in humility a little bit. I hope they do a second season where she continues to evolve and become more humble and more aware of her limitations and gain a more balanced …

You are afraid, and that is reasonable. Just like when someone breaks into your house while you're asleep. You're afraid that if you make noise, you'll draw the attacker to you. Honestly, though, the smartest and best thing you can do is to take courageous action. Gather your evidence (text or message screenshots, recorded conversations, etc.) and then file a police report or seek legal counsel once you have some evidence. Better yet, talk to a lawyer first and find out what sort or recourse you…

So many of us have given up and just try to keep our heads down and survive long enough to die a natural death, with no hope of ever having equal footing. Speak to her privately and let her know that you are uncomfortable with the repeated public requests to visit your home. If she has any scruples whatsoever, she will apologize and stop doing it. If she doesn't, I'd bring it up with HR. A "personal space sensitivity" meeting with an HR rep, yourself, and your boss would likely result.

My advice: try to get other women to see this logic before they have boy children and therefore a personal reason to care at all about the injustice being done to men. We need more female allies than simply those who happen to have had boy babies and thereby feel the visceral terror we feel.

With deeper analysis, this isn't that bizarre: http://jimmyakin.com/2012/10/the-dark-passages-of-scripture.html I don't think Jimmy addresses this particular passage, so here are my thoughts: In the ancient world (and in many parts of the modern world) there is no police force. There are no jails. When tribes go to war, the only way to guarantee that there won't be retribution later from the losing side is to utterly wipe out the losing side. I mean, if you let some of them go free, or enslave t…

Technically, a child cannot have two biological fathers. Each child will get the name of one man on their birth certificate - the man who is their direct ancestor.

"Bilogical means nothing." Sorry, chum. Without biology, you aren't even here. How about I switch out your parents with a couple of strangers, and give them all of your bio parents legal rights to you, and you are legally prevented from getting your bio parents back? All of a sudden, biology becomes pretty important.

Not only have I been in a long-term relationship (my wife and I have been married for 11 years now), I have many friends in long-term relationships and marriges. My parents divorced when I was 12. It sucked large. Anything you can do to avoid divorce is preferable to splitting up (up to and including tying yourself physically to your spouse). Some people are outright physically violent. Fine, get your divorce. (But, really, this is something that you should have seen signs of with careful analys…

If you want to play it safe, best not to get married. You'll hit rough patches, no doubt, so take your time in deciding to get married such that you won't be tempted to wreck your marriage because someone left the toothpaste cap off again. But, after taking time to decide (a year at least, where you take some classes on how to communicate, discuss your plans for the future, how many kids you want, how you handle finances, etc...), once you are in, be ALL in (both of you!). Anything less isn't go…

Having a pre-nup is like tying your ankle to the plane before you parachute out. Dude, if you're doing to go, just GO. If you're too chicken, don't jump. But don't water down the meaning of marriage for the rest of us jumpers by planting the seeds of doubt into your minds before committing... and eventually becoming one of the divorce statistics. NB: I am using "dude" and "you" in the general sense, not to you in particular.

Yes, it is shocking. Immature behaviour in grown adults usually is. Most of my line of reasoning goes along the lines of the relationship benefits of a total self-giving to the partner, and how porn destroys the ability to do that. Human dignity comes into it, not exploiting other human beings (willful exploitation or no) for one's own pleasure, being a noble creature, etc... Mostly lost on you, I would imagine. It's no big secret around here that I am devoutly religious. If you want to get insi…

"All the ancient societies". "The many that don't have marriage" "The thriving poly community" Yet you only mention the Mosuo, who were conveniently mentioned here on reddit about a week ago. I doubt you could name any others off the top of your head without going to google or wikipedia. Your vehement assertions are as meaningless as your second-last sentence. The majority of human history demonstrates that women and (mature) men seek fulfilling and intimate monogamous relationships. That's just…

You personally know couples who regularly masturbate to porn with each other's knowledge? There is no argument that I could make which would convince you of the problem with this situation, since you are clearly entrenched in it.

Human experience would seem to indicate otherwise, despite your ranting.
/r/MensRights29/09/10 05:06 PM

It's impossible to stop the insidious creeping distrust that it raises in the human mind. The relentless feeling of being inferior to the partner's fantasy will eventually destroy the relationship, or leave it an empty shell. People yearn for genuine and deep intimacy with their partner, and porn makes that impossible (because the partner is being intimate in certain ways with the porn instead).
/r/MensRights29/09/10 01:39 PM

Fidelity is one of the pillars of a successful and fulfilling relationship. Porn destroys that fidelity. That's one of the reasons why, even as a man, I denounce it. It has nothing at all to do with power-lust.

People who want a divorce but stick it out, five years later report being very happy with the marriage. I don't have the link that reports this, but thought it'd be handy to throw in on the discussion. Stay married, even if you want out - it will get better, but may take some work.
