I'm 30 and I enjoy teaching English to small children abroad-- I get to play with them and if they're a brat, well, I only see that kid an hour a week. My teaching hours are 22 hours a week, the rest of my time at work I spend cleaning and helping manage the school. So I hang with kids 22 hours a week, and it's just the right amount of time for me. I also come home to peace and quiet and can enjoy my off days as I please (I have a Border Colliebut she's very fun and chill. As smart as a little k…

It's more common than I imagined it would be... :(

I switched to dressing more conservatively/formally when I began teaching children. I did this to achieve a few things: I wanted parents to take me seriously, I have some very young students and wanted it to be impossible for me to have a wardrobe malfunction in class, I was having problems before with guys following me/train groping (yes, this is in Japan). Dressing more modestly has had all of the effects I had hoped for (I get more respect, less problems from strangers on the train), plus (us…

I'm going to ralk about my life to give you something to think about. I just turned 30. Long post incoming. I used to think I wanted to work for a good company abroad and be that "career woman", spouse or no spouse. I expected to train business professionals or do in-house writing/editing/translation in Japan and make at least 35,000- 40,000 USD with 10 paid days off a year, social insurance (with pension matched by my company), etc. 1 BA in Writing from a top 20 global school, a 120-hour TEFL c…

Bookmarked. Thank you. Honestly though, this is like the average woman's magazine in Japan. Only the US media machine is so hellbent on selling lies that it's hard for me to find good lifestyle tips and articles in English.

Same here. And my father raised my sisters and I, because my mother was so unfit that even 20-25 years ago, they'd rather 3 girls be raised by their dad. My mom still lives off the state and doesn't care.

My husband is a good snuggler. I'd feel really lonely if he werent around. Even if we're just sitting around, feeling even just his foot rubbing my leg or something makes me relaxed.

I also teach small children, and while sometimes I feel feminine, sometimes I find myself exuding a more masculine energy with my students, especially if I am teaching a class that is older boys. (My students range from age 2 to 12.) Teaching them to throw a ball with more accuracy, replying to their jokes with an even sharper quip, sometimes I wear ridiculous socks just to get their attention. I feel more feminine during my office hours, when I am doing tasks on the computer or scheduling (I fe…

I promised my husband that he will always come first, because if we aren't happy and are fighting a lot, how will our kids be happy? They'll also be wondering, "What's wrong with mom and dad? Why are they so angry?" And even after the kids are grown and leave the nest, it will just be the two of us again, and I don't want to feel like I am living with a stranger. I want to always feel close to him. <3

I was recommended to join this group by someone in a completely different subreddit. I have been married almost 1 year (will be 1 year on March 14th) and we definitely would fit into this group based on our lifestyle. :) Nice to meet you all!

I am mostly a SAHW right now. I have a part time job, but I only insisted on it to pay off student loans and for my own rainy day fund since we just bought a house and I didn't want him to have to pay for those things for me. But 3-5 days a week I am just home. Is that bad? No! I run errands, keep the place tidy, pick up groceries, prepare meals, study (We live in Japan and I want to improve my Japanese before even discussing kids in the future), and just keep myself busy busy busy doing things …

I have increased my hours at work. (His have increased too recently which is good because we just bought a house. We could subsist fine on just his pay but I am paying off my student loans and I like keeping a rainy day fund.) I am also trying to be more independent, as I have been living in Japan for only 2.5 years so at first if I needed to file taxes or do paperwork or something complicated, he would always have to come with me, but now I am fluent enough to go out by myself and get things do…
