Okay. I didn't get the impression that the protector/provider role extends to an emotional level.

Thanks! I always appreciate the resources to help myself improve. I plan on visiting a sex therapist if any problems surface in those regards. Would this personally scare you off if it was brought up by an SO (assuming no lasting problems)? Would it be disrespectful to hide it, as I am wont to do?

Fair point. I don't really expect comforting gestures, but I suppose they could tell you a lot about a person. I suppose some patience would be kinda nice, I don't know. I just don't want to be a burden.

..But isn't it against your nature/out of your comfort zone to be nurturing? I'd hate to make him uncomfortable or emasculate him.

Oh my :( I can't say I've ever thought of that set of problems. I've actually since stopped seeing a counselor - I just mentioned it to emphasize that I'm a very emotionally private person and wouldn't necessarily (or even want to) be 'dumping' it on my boyfriend. I feel like it would be pretty embarrassing for the both of us. Hmm. I guess I'll cross the intimacy bridge when I come to it. If he or I encounter any problems, I will check out sex therapy.

Thanks again, stranger. I don't personally know any other assault victims (to my knowledge at least), so as I said before I don't have much of a baseline of what to watch out for in myself. I had hoped that I wouldn't necessarily need to bring that part of my life up to an SO, but I guess I'm glad to hear that it wouldn't simply gross them out and all.

Great advice. Thank you for your candor and honesty. You hit the nail on the head - I didn't intend to come off validation-seeking or anything, I just wanted some answers. Followup: Thinking about things like this really turns my stomach. Is this association the thing that would turn men away? If this is the case, should I just not bring it up at all in an LTR?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
