Have faced what you mention with the documentaries. I do read a lot, but not purposefully, I guess. Thanks for the reply.

This should be the epilogue to every MBA - Finance course in the world! Thank you for writing this out. To add on, I think high finance as a profession is revered because of the pays offs it once offered and the marketing it has received - Gordon Gekkos and Jordan Belforts, the documentaries about the flashy lifestyles of bankers, etc. People underestimate how process-oriented (monotonous, paper work) banking is. Smart graduates, technical and business, eventually want to gravitate towards these…

This is something I have researched a great deal into and while I may not know what exactly can be done, I can talk about how to think about side gigs. If your main income source depends on you being a professional with skills, most often, you can work on projects / freelance according to your convenience. If not, it is important to recognize how you can maximize making money through the day by doing the same / similar things through different sources. The money earned would be proportional to t…

This is great timing, I was looking for something like this. Thank you.

I agree. Well, congratulations. It can be very hard to change careers and mindsets when everybody seems to have found their stride, being the 20s et al. Do you mind going into detail about how you finally made the call? How are you able to come to terms with that fact that you might be in your late 30s before your medical career blossoms? It would be insightful to hear how people handle this, knowing all this education and lifting and career could have been well worked out during out late teens …

Yes, it does. From your position, it sounds like you definitely need it. The first thing you should do before you think anymore about being assertive, etc.

Control and clarity are different things. I'd say clarity comes before control. Meditation is an exercise most on this sub and elsewhere have recommended. Mindfulness Meditation in Plain English - H. Gunaratna is a great book written on the subject for the west.

Have you read No More Mr. Nice Guy by Robert Glover yet?

Good on you for picking the profession of your choice even if in your late 20s. If its a long road, stick it out. Cheers!

At 23 and with a useless business degree, I worry most about finding a career. I worry if I will ever have the chance to go back to college, work hard, be patient and make smart moves in my field and live a redpill lifestyle with decent cash, plates, hobbies and intellectual work.

Thanks for this, man. Apart from the recommended reading list, I've discovered a lot of random mentions like yours, which are great, and aren't on any "lists."

This thread brought out some great points. I wish to add to the discussion. At this point, we must all agree that this topic is not pseudo-science. I see that the prevailing knowledge about building / protecting self-esteem is to cut out negative people and build it naturally. While this is true, there are a lot of ways it can be misconstrued. For example, if you didn't learn positive habits early on in your life (at least in your late teens), or even worse, got the wrong messages about success …

Thanks for your suggestion. Over the years, I'm hoping to go through all of his books.

I agree! Still, there are people who always rise above their "programming / parenting." What do you think about the book? Is it worth the read?

You're right. The book has a lot of exercises and prompts that help you weed out your "issues." Apart from that, the author has another book, "How To Raise Your Self-Esteem - Nathaniel Branden," which lists out specific strategies to raise yours.

I agree. I wonder how some are naturally resilient, not socially stunted and so on! But some of us can't learn until we've picked shit apart.

I'm currently reading the book a second time. This is a decent summary, but the book goes into so much more detail about how and why "the six pillars" are important, how you can develop them and how you can work through your issues. While growing up, if you learned entitlement and other fucked up shit and didn't really figure out the "compound effect" of success, this book may offer another view on why that may be so. Self-esteem may or may not be an issue to you. You may or may not be your own …

Logged in to personally thank you. As I was driving along today, I noticed an unusual number of pretty women. I've been working the sidebar, I've read the top posts, I'm fairly aware at this point. However, I was surprised to catch myself wishing if I could have any one of those girls while still being emotionally dependent. I caught myself wishing some of these girls would give me a pat on the back. Nipped that shit right in the bud. And then your very simple answer, magically, replaced that th…

Come on, bro. Who's going to have your back?! One must be mindful of competition, sure. One must also be open to the possibility of camaraderie.

Gary Vaynerchuk does this. He has several books written on the subject, has a youtube channel and is quite established at "branding", both yourself and your business. Brain Tracy has some good books that come to mind, but I can't remember which exactly. He's had A LOT of books, would suggest researching his titles and buying ones which relate to what you're looking for. Good luck!

No More Mr. Nice Guy - Dr. Robert A. Glover: The book taught me where my insecurities are coming from, what covert contracts are, how far back my feelings of inadequacy go and lists great tips on building a healthy personality for the long run. Definitely THE BOOK to start with if you're looking to build yourself mentally. The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fuck - Mark Manson: This book is great in the sense that you learn about human fallibility. As much as we all want to be right and things to go …

Hey man, Congratulations on starting to get in shape and your career. Here's wishing you all the momentum you can get! Thanks for taking the time out to respond. Could you elaborate on what you mean when you say everybody my age feels this way? I'm sure its not as generic as laziness or procrastination.

Thank you. I'm first going to focus on getting on a decent career and then, if some income and a change of city still isn't changing my perspective on improving on all fronts, I will look towards therapy.
