My wife definitely makes more money than me and it was a conscious decision (I left a full time managerial position to be a SAHD) that I would stay because the cost of child care otherwise was just about what my salary was.

I was a 24/7 SAHD for a year and I eventually had to get myself a part-time job just to get out of the house a few hours a week and converse with regular adults. I realized it was getting bad when I looked forward to grocery shopping just to find people to talk to. I'm still home the majority of the time with the kids, but it really is like a terrible retail job where people shit on you all day and you aren't allowed to leave.

I'll accredit my lapse of reason to the fact I originally read this at 3am while sitting up with my 1 year old who wouldn't go to sleep and having to deal with a toddler in her terrible twos the last week. Tone is incredibly hard to read on the internet, especially when I have seen articles in this sub in particular that are serious and much more accusatory. I now get the tongue in cheek, I was hesitant to post this because I was really unsure, but as a SAHD myself I found it a funny read.

That was my hope as well, so I was kinda throwing it up to /r/mra to if I was reading into it too much. EDIT - That was definitely the tone it was written in, but I'm not sure if it is necessarily the actual tone of the author (being optimistic). My dad had both (Chapin and Cat Stevens) on vinyl and listening to them always reminds me of him, especially those two songs. My wife thinks I'm funny for associating my dad with two depressing songs about absent fathers (moreso Chapin) since he was great and always there for me, but its hard to explain.
