Does the UK have a civil court where he can pursue damages for the injury, facial disfigurement, and loss of income? Given that she pled guilty and was sentenced to 18 months (albeit suspended) I would think he'd have a good case.

Write in anyway. Even if they decline to review the case, there is a still a record that there was a protestation. You might also suggest that they are happy to review crimes committed because of a the victim's race or religion - how about lenient sentences because of the victim's gender?

Because the reality is, if you're a woman you can get sympathy by playing the victim, but as a man the only thing you can expect to ever get is respect through strength. I wish I could disagree with this statement, but I really feel that it is (currently) the case. It'd be nice if it were different, but I just don't see it changing in Western culture any time soon.

Can confirm - modern feminism, 4th wave, tumblr culture, whatever you want to call, it's what has awakened me to where things are going and the crazy shit I keep hearing is why I've become more interested in trying to define my own stance. I'm also concerned because the more radical they become, the more I find that I develop radical viewpoints in response. It's a scary cycle, and I'm totally sure that it works both ways.

Someone brought up an interesting thought about having severe consequences for false accusations - it just creates incentive to continue with the lie. As long as the burden of proof for these cases is so low, creating serious penalties for false reports doesn't feel like an answer. All she has to do is show up and lie and he is convicted. In this case she felt bad enough, and the penalty to her was low enough, that she drops the case and it all goes away. It doesn't help him with what happened, …

27 years in prison after being convicted of 10 counts of violent sexual assault? Bet he's had a rough time inside :/ If there's any justice in this, he will be well compensated. Not that the money will change much at this point (he's 60) but it will set a good precedent that there will be consequences for putting the wrong people behind bars.

This story is so many kinds of fucked up. He brainwashed an impressionable young girl? More like she manipulated and coerced him into killing himself so she could get attention and use his death for her benefit. She isn't right in the head at all.
