In fact, her mom tried to make her wear it as a kid, and as soon as she got on the bus, it would go in her backpack. It is a birth defect so basically, she is who she is. She was born that way, and could do absolutely everything without any problems. My advice is to ignore it for a while, maybe 2-3 dates, then casually ask about it, but if she doesn't continue talking about it, let it go.
