There is no reason you cannot advocate for a hateful cause. Not to mention how subjective the idea of a 'hate group' is. Advocating for the rights of black or latino people you are advocacy, do the same for white people you are a hate group. Same thing with men's rights and feminism. The only difference is majority minority group status.

It's funny how thin the line between advocacy group and hate group is. Almost like freedom fighter and terrorist.

God forbid trump doesn't accept the results of the election. What we lost the election? Down with the electoral college.

Women's health and bodily autonomy is entirely a left wing value So is feminism. I guess if you oppose feminism you aren't left wing? One issue doesn't make up somebodies political identity. There aren't simply two options of patriarchy or matriarchy, it's called egalitarianism. and patriarchy (whether or not it exists in this place or that place at this or that time) isn't a left wing value (and neither is matriarchy). I don't think we can even get into that conversation unless we have a more s…

I think Trump is probably the least conservative Republican president since before Ronald Reagan. I mean he was a registered Democrat 20 years ago. He is just good on social justice issues, that is why people think he is far right.

Hey man, don't you know that raising issues with the legitimacy of the voting system means you are a fascist who is simply trying to enact their authoritarian regime. I mean it isn't like democrats have been refusing the accept the election on the exact grounds that it was illegitimately interfered with for the entire trump presidency. We should be really worried that trump might do the same thing. God forbid we allow republicans to get away with what democrats have been doing for years. I mean …

At what stage exactly of a sperm cell fertilizing an egg cell does it suddenly begin to warrant moral consideration?... When its DNA has finished merging? Do you mourn all the fertilized eggs (that is, the majority) that fail to implant on their mothers' uterus? Yeah I think DNA is a pretty good marker for when we can be pretty sure that we're dealing with a separate human entity. I mean we're all alive right it's not a question of when the cells start to become alive so much as a question of wh…

When do you believe moral worth comes about? I believe life starts at conception and that comes with some degree of moral consideration. But in complex moral decisions you have to balance a series of rights and responsibilities. So for example I believe it is fine for a rape victim to get an abortion because they did not consent to sex and for me consent to sex is consent to the possibility of pregnancy which comes with responsibility. I think IVF is fine also because you have to weigh lives tha…

The part they leave out is that he specifically states why he might not leave and what his suspicions are at other times. I think that kind of clarifies things.

We don't. Note that I didn't say you aren't left-wing or anything like that. I'm just expressing that it's a surprising combination It's not actually that uncommon. The first real anti abortion organizations were started by social democrats. Before roe v wade it wasn't a right wing issue, but the rise of the evengelical movement in the 70s reframed the whole debate. It is where the term 'pro life' came from. And one of those is that we are pro-choice That is actually ridiculous. Don't want thing…

Jfc you don't actually believe that the Dems would do that would you? They did it to Bernie. He's clearly projecting his party's own practices, and using this so called "cheating" as an excuse to refuse to leave office. Except he didn't lose any election. We have seen the democrats refuse to accept the legitimacy of the election for years. Blaming Russia for interfering, as if ads on Facebook are going to swing an election. I mean talk about projection.

Didn't realize we did purity tests here. Abortion should be a left wing position imo. The left has always tried to speak for the voiceless and protect the human rights of the vunerable. I don't see how you expect monolithic conformity with left wing ideas in a sub that is mostly anti feminist though. Obviously we are all heretics to some degree.

Wow that's a loaded question. Sorry I'm not American and I don't support the Democrats. I support the left wing party in my country. I honestly don't know how you could support the Democrats and still claim to advocate for men's rights. So my question to you is how could you run this sub and support a political party that is so demonstrably anti male?

They're not as into identity politics but they love interfering with abortion rights (do you want more child support and single parents? This is how you get more child support and single parents) Personally I just want less abortions. I mean to me it's a human rights issue so that includes men. It's not really about the men who pay support but the ones that have their lives prematurely terminated that would be the bigger issue to me, if you want to make it about men. and gay rights I think they …

It's not terrible self help advice. It would be good if he could address the more systemic side though. Why is single parenthood so high now? Could it be because we have legislated to give women massive amounts of control during divorces and in the family courts? I mean most divorces are initiated by women so this seems to add up. You want to solve this issue it's real easy. Step one, remove alimony. Step two, take provision into account in equal importance to nurturing when deciding child custo…

As far as I know, Twice as many studies find discrimination against women as don't. Most is too low are bar. But what about 2/3? Still not even close. I don't think we are even thinking in the same ballpark atm. Maybe that wouldn't even be enough in the absence of an observed statistical wage gap. But in the presence of an observed statistical wage gap, and experiments that find discrimination in the direction that you would expect, it seems like its more work to avoid the conclusion that discri…

Well obviously we are getting either false positives or false negatives. But if most of the results are positive, then isn't the natural conclusion that the negatives are the false results? Not from the spread that these studies give. I mean most is obviously too low of a bar. You can imagine basically infinite situations. But I believe that if you examine enough situations, you eventually find rules that work for all cases. Eventually is a long time. Practically with sentencing the situations a…

How do you figure? What makes you think that these results are just statistical noise? Well they don't seem to get repeatable results. Something must be interesting to cause that. Some kind of noise. But I do not agree with that. If I were to present you with many different cases of crimes, and ask you why one is more or less severe than the other, and what variables explain it, I think that I would eventually hone in on abstract principles that allow us to rank severity of crimes in the abstrac…

So, it sounds like most studies find discrimination against women It sounds like the study isn't very good at getting a result that is more than statistical noise. And this isn't unsurprising. People aren't dice or coins. We are a bit more complicated than that. So complicated that we have to admit we will never get to the point where the noise is outweighed. We can't expect equality in these sorts of statistics. If you cannot rank severity of crime in any theoretical framework, then what justif…

For example, in one study, scientists created phony job applications that were identical except for the name and sex of the applicant. The fictional male applicants were rated as more competent and offered higher salaries than female applicants, even though the job applications were exactly the same except for the name of the fictional applicant. These are cherry picked studies. I can find you examples where they did the exact same study and got the opposite results. Truth is people are just a l…

Depends on the self help I guess. Most is written by qualified psychologists and is pretty well entrenched in the psychological literature. But disagreeing on the intellectual rigor of self help is a bit beside the point. And yeah self help and right wing politics both put emphasis on the individual. I mean self help is basically bootstrap pulling. I think this is really an issue with our political divide. The idea that self help is a bad thing seems like a fairly obvious extreme to avoid. Like …

Because we have experimental evidence of discrimination against women in the labor market. It's experimental in the sense that they experiment with twisting the statistics in any way they can to prove discrimination that doesn't exist. I mean if you want to point to something specific in that study we can talk about it, but in general what that study is doing is trying to show discrimination by looking at outcomes. This literally never works and will always be assuming equality of input. Men get…

You know we don't have this standard for any other group. You say anything that even hints at inferiority and you are told you hate that group. Boys are doing demonstrably worse in schools. Yeah I honestly used to get into it with him just to demonstrate what some users can get away with under that moderation. It's completely unacceptable for somebody who claims to be interested in creating an atmosphere for good faith discussion. I respect activism I just don't believe in equality. Doesn't mean I don't believe in rights. I think mistaking these two things is a major flaw in narrative actually. I think at best it is understood to be universal rights, but even those are conditional and will be taken away if you break the law. Part of the reason I want us to reject 'equality' isn't because I disagree with what I'd say most people want, which I would say would be fair assesment of themselves and others. But because it is too…

Well Vaush is somebody who is very keen to debate people and defend radical positions. He isn't the most radical feminist though and will rephrase a lot men's issues as class struggle or not important. I am sure you would have seen somebody do similar. It's a kind of way to recognize some extent of the issues without undermine any of the fundamentals of the narrative.

It's good article. Important to remember that a lot of these really only apply to the most radical, deconstructionist view. There are a lot of feminist positions that conform less to this position, some of which wouldn't conform to any. And recently I've noticed an acceptance of the granularity between the woke and unwoke positions and a move away from the beleif that discourse is merely a way to further social power relations. The possibility of good faith is creeping in. The rise of very lefti…

Yeah at that point you basically already won and I'd bet feminists would be much more keen to talk outside their bubble. SJWs in general are getting less insular already. Feminists have been late to the show on this though.

I absolutely agree that debating outside your bubble is important. Yet I'm not convinced that it's really the lack of civil, moderated spaces to do so in that's the limiting factor. Yeah I agree. Too many people involved just don't want such a debate. Like, a lot of people on one side I won't name only wants to to debate you unless their tribe sets the rules to run the show by. There are enough counter-examples to implicate any tribes on this one, but I think you can see my point. Yeah I have al…

Yeah idk they are still modding they just made it private. My suspicion was this was the only way to even out the numbers, you stop new people from coming by themselves and invite feminists. I understand why they do it, but that is also why the sub is flawed, they need feminists for it to work. And feminists are basically allergic to fair moderation. I talked to one yesterday who complains about feminists being 'dog piled', which basically just means a lot of people asking one person questions. …

For me it was UVA. When the story came out I was in very left wing pro-feminist circles at the time. I was quite young maybe only 18. I was pretty much inundated with people complaining that this was symptomatic of rape culture and that all men were somehow responsible for this kind of thing. These were the claims I was initially taken back by, at first I didn't even question the stories legitimacy, just how it was being presented. I didn't have any experience with frat culture but I knew that w…

It honestly wouldn't be that difficult. If you want to be consistent mitoza should have been banned a long time ago. The fact that he is allowed to play by a different set of rules is really what pisses people off most and certainly doesn't encourage good faith. Like I said to another user, it's not meant specifically to talk to feminists. I think to an extent their unwillingness to debate actually makes them kind of irrelevent. I just don't care what you think unless you are willing to come and defend that position against an adversarial position. An ideology that refuses to engage it's critics cannot survive. Let them abandon the conversation if they like and let's carry on with it.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates22/09/20 07:27 AM

This is part of the reason why I framed the sub how I did. I wanted to take the emphasis away from feminism and how you feel about feminists and make it about the issues. I don't plan to have any kind of labelling system for beliefs and purposely made the title and description to focus on the subjects at hand rather than the groups who often talk about those subjects. It's not specifically for debating feminists. If they want to come they can come. Otherwise that is fine too. I don't generally think the sorts of feminists who are not willing to speak about gender issues without having the moderation stacked in their favor are that interesting to talk to. They act like this because they don't really want to have discussions about their beleifs, they want to lecture and try to shame others. This sub isn't for them. Yes, any interactive computer service can moderate at its own discretion under its terms of service The whole idea of having a ToS was because they wanted to ensure good faith moderation. This is why they didn't just allow companies to moderate whatever they wanted without applying a consistent set of rules. I can refer to many that were banned for that or similar offenses. It's an inconsistent standard. You can't be concerned with the potential harm of misgendering to trans people and turn around and say it's ok to advocate killing police officers.

Saying there are only two genders is harmless compared to advocating rioting and killing cops. The only reason to allow one but not another is political bias, given he climate at the moment.

Yep I agree one hundred percent. Legal action in the end is force. If we want social media companies to be equal in their moderation we need to take away their ability to moderate under section 230. If we give them the ability to curate their platforms to fit their ideology they will do so and that won't involve protecting the free speech rights of those who disagree. If we value free speech it must be protected with force, not trying to convince them to be nicer. If you are trying that tact you…

Too bad there is no prize for "I beat a woman in a marathon" for a man. So its useless. Plenty of people play co-ed sports. And we have seperate divisions exactly because of the advantage I am talking about. No they expect 80% top fitness for men and 60% top-female fitness for women. This is irrelevent. I can complain about fitness tests all day it doesn't negate the fact that men have a pretty huge biological advantage in this case.

No real privilege Lol. Being unfit and failing because of it doesn't undo the fact that you had a biological advantage. If it's true I pro it's true across the board. Just depends what kind of lifestyle you lead. Still an unfit man will probably beat an unfit women and a fit man will beat a fit women. Play any casual sport and the difference is blatantly obvious. That is what the friendzone is. If you think it is so bad you have to understand why women aren't exactly keen to be friendly to you because it just leads you on. Which is the topic of this thread. The answer is that nobody owes you shit and no amount of working on yourself is going to help unless you actually improve yourself enough in the eyes of others. I don't find you to be very progressive either tbh. I am very aware that people are heavily influenced by cultural norms. Instead of thinking of “dating” as a game with a prize of getting laid, why don’t you consider the full landscape of marriage, family, companionship, and relationships. I don't see it as a game. The whole reason why this is difficult to solve is because when you struggle to find a date it's because nobody wants to date you. That is their life, yeah it's not a fucking game, if it was a game it would be more reasonable to ask for a turn. Men’s complaints of dating trouble is a symptom of underlyin…

This ignores the momentous overhaul that has happened in modern courtship over the past few decades and doesn’t offer any introspection into the cause and effect of those changes I don't think it does and I don't think it is paticularly relevent. I mean in regards to dating what do you want to move back to? We don’t have dowrys or arranged marriages in western countries. Is this not a good thing or do you actually think forced marriage is a good solution to men's dating issues? Because to me tha…

If we don’t acknowledge people’s struggles it creates conflict and resentment. Telling people to get over it is not empathetic or productive I am more than happy to acknowledge it is difficult. That being said you still have to get over it. I mean what is the alternative if you acknowledge that you can't force people to like you? Doesn't seem like you are after a solution, because the only solution is to get over it, work on yourself and be better. And if you aren't interested in a solution then…

They are comparable in that, compared to being obese, being introverted is less objectionable. That is subjective. Not true for all people. It could be you value the social contributions of the fat, extroverted person, more than you care about how they look. In fact I would assume that is most people's position for those they want to befriend. It matters way more how they socialize with you than how they look. Therefore, if feminists can treat obese women with empathy despite not being attractiv…

I mean let's think for a second about what creepy really is. It's not necessarily dangerous behaviour , it's not necessarily rude behaviour, it's not necessarily unkind behaviour, it's just unnerving behaviour. If something seems creepy to you, it's creepy to you. There is no real objective measure here. It's really up to you to figure out people enough that they won't have this reaction to you, just like you wouldn't want them to find you annoying or otherwise unpleasant to be around.

I wouldn't hold up how sjw's treat obese woman as an example for how everybody should treat men. I don't think it's good for those women or the men they are close to. In both cases we are excusing people for not meeting pretty simple standards. It might well make it easier if they were told that none of this is deserved on their part morally or otherwise, but that just isn't the truth. The truth is that being creepy is unappealing and if you are creepy you are gonna have to work on that. Just li…

Idk man like we can have empathy for it but that won't nessacerily fix the issue. Like if you were a teenager finding it difficult and a women said "hey you are right and I empathize with you but nothing is going to change" would that really be a satisfying solution to you? I find it difficult to believe lack of empathy is really the issue. I think what people are really saying is "If you had empathy you'd sleep with me".

Stop expecting it. Seriously it's not going to happen and there is good reason for it, even if you aren't wrong. If women acknowledge that dating for men is unfairly difficult the implication is that it needs to be made easier and even that it is women's obligation to make it so. I can absolutely see why women get a 'creepy' feeling about that even if most guys are just trying to vent. Easier for men just means less appealing for women. It's like asking you why you won't fuck fat and or ugly bit…

Nope. Not if; Men deserve the longer sentences and the problem is that women get off too lightly. You over react to harms against women and accurately asses harms against men. Are unable to identify evilness in women and willing to do so in men. It is entirely possible and I would say likely that WOW is entirely a misevaluation of women, not men. We know men are dangerous, we know men can be evil, we know men will try to milk victimhood status. The issue is we don't hold these same standards for…

It’s a part of it, but I think it’s more rooted in misandry. This might be overstating the case a little. WOW I think is inherently about a misevaluation of women not men. You don't have to hate men to think women are a little better than they are in reality.

I’m a Black man letting you know you’re performing misogyny, although by your standards neither of us would be the arbiter of it. Me + my very queer household inherently disagree – a diversity of good role models is needed. I have far better role models than an imperialist. Lol when they call other families imperialist they are really showing they had a good upbringing /s. I mean how can a household be imperialist exactly and how is that related to gender roles? They sound kind of unhinged.

At heart is your gripe really with feminists? It seems you have a lot of dislike for the teachers and coaches you had as a kid, but not because they were feminists. Problem is there is no good line for how far is too far. Most will have to exaggerate to compete, but go to far and people will see you as dishonest. Short answer, access to services. We can help people with all these things but in my experience they are often crap of non-existent. It's not an ideological problem (unless I get really conspiratorial about the nature of gov funding) but a quality issue. The main problem here isn't funding but accountability. A lot of the time workers can get away with being of very poor quality because the people they work with are disenfranchised and couldn't utilize the system to make a complaint anyway. And …

Being disproportionately responsible for violent crime will do that. This applies to both Africa Americans and Men. That isn't to deny that many police killings are not justified. It clearly says in the statements of the UMSU spokeswomen that this was a workshop by them. So I don't know what small obscure group you are talking about. When criticizing Marx, Marx's definition of the working class is more important than others'. I'm not disputing it, I'm saying it would cause a large percentage of people to be something other than working class. Owning a computer and a car doesn't make you a petty bourgeois, deriving your primary income from autonomous or semi-autonomous work on them does. It would mean that the vast majority of people have access to the means of production. They just don't use it. If a factory owner leaves his…

You're petty bourgeois I'm what most people call working class in my country. That is the thing. I mean who doesn't own a computer and a car? Only a minority of people in my country and I'd say most western countries. A social class is a definite relationship to the means of production Right but look around, means of production has changed. Do you own a computer? Pretty easy to make that into a home office. Class is probably where they are most wrong. First of all because nobody really knows what class they are anymore. The workforce has changed since this class analysis was conceived and while the vast majority of people consider themselves 'working class' or 'middle class' there doesn't seem to be any consensus over what defines those terms. What is more nobody seems that attached to them. Working class people don't see themselves as in a unified class struggle. They are united much more by count…

Socialists, progressives, leftists. Anybody who considers a liberal to be right wing. Idk about the lib right, but the far left, both authoritarian and libertarian seems to have very one dimensional views of race, gender, class and so on. I don't think feminists are that powerful, they are just loud. As much as feminists come to MRAs, MRAs must deal with them. Otherwise I think it's best to seperate anti-feminist from MRAs. That way they must fight from completely different emotional perspectives on different fronts. One minute they will be asking you to care for women, the next they will be telling men to shut up about their problems. This hypocrisy destroys them. But MRAs themselves should want to avoid such hypocrisy.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates07/04/20 12:21 AM

Ahh man I feel your struggle but honestly I think you are talking to the wrong people. The MRA doesn't need to focus on far left groups and I would say they will be the most difficult to convince. In my opinion people on the far ideological left have a lot of issues dealing with power trade offs. The idea that people who occupy priviledged social positions (like being head of the family) could have had less social freedom than those below them is impossible to them. And because they see many goo…

Interesting. Now I'd say it's maybe 60% MRAs and 80% anti-feminists. If you can picture that can van diagram. It is weird to me that Feminists have controlled the moderation completely since the beginning yet they still don't seem happy enough with it to continue. Honestly I think they just don't want to have to deal with MRAs so they ignore them, which is funny to me because that is how a lot of people deal with feminists.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates06/04/20 11:06 PM

It is. But how would people feel about men coming into the movement parroting talking points about white priviledge? We have to counter these racial claims too, all while we support men of all different ethnicities. I don't want to be part of an MRM where I am told to shut up and take a back seat because I'm white.

It's weird because despite their heavy handed rules people still manage to be very insulting to one another. So it's fine to say that somebody doesn't understand what they are talking about and should be quiet. But it's not fine to argue feminists don't believe in equality, because that is an 'insulting generalization'. They honestly just didn't think out the rules well before they set it up. Modernization has meant the separation of ideological principle from real world consideration. I mean this very literally. Academics, the people who should be thinking about this, as so isolated from the real world and often have no experience of it. So the real requirements of what we need as a society of natural animals are often brushed aside for high minded ideals about what should be.
