The guy had 6 months to live, and you claim to have a better understanding of what would make him happy, his life is not about you and your opinions. Seems much more likely that he did this because it actually did make him the happiest guy on the planet and he actually enjoyed spending time with the people who care about him. If you really, really want to get her back, the best thing you can do is to NOT try to get her back. Sounds silly? It's not - focus on yourself, improve in every area - career, body, looks, social circle, success, status etc. And if you do this, it will give you the biggest chance of 'getting her back'.
