I have no problem with reparations as an official government apology for slavery and failed Reconstruction along with more funding to help black communities, but individual checks is crazy, likely to tear the country apart over who qualifies and who has to pay.

I wish I knew as well. Last I heard around 2000 he was in a homeless shelter in Milan but was trying to get somewhere like the UK that speaks English. He called me a few times but then I never heard from him or had a phone number. Apparently he moved to the US as a toddler, so was completely culturally American. He was dumb not to become a citizen when he had the chance.

I got arrested in a woman's bathroom one time, so fair is fair. It was New Year's Eve 1998 in Cambridge, MA. A buddy and I had just scored some dope and needed a place to get off. We couldn't wait for the men's room to open up so we used the women's room, but apparently the coffee shop called the cops on us. We spent a night in jail, but otherwise not much happened to me. My friend though, had been born in Italy and never got his US citizenship, even though he lived here for over 20 years, so th…

Not afraid of the downvotes to part ways with the sub on this one. No doubt she's at fault for bringing cannabis oil into Russia, but 9 years is way excessive for mere possession. Her case is being used for propaganda purposes by the government, which is a long way from "based".

You're not considering the whole picture. They met in law school, where she was the smarter and more accomplished of the two, but put her dreams on hold to support his political ambitions, where she was always his #1 advisor. No doubt his accomplishments and fame laid a path for her success, but it wouldn't have worked if she weren't as smart and talented as she is. If she only had the charisma to make it all work.

That helped but was not the reason. She got elected Senator by the people of NY, and was appointed SoS after almost beating Obama for the POTUS nomination. Moreover she certainly was not out of her element in either position, clearly knowledgeable and effective in these roles.

Easier or harder is an opinion that not everyone will agree on. Many people think construction is harder than daycare of children, but if you hate kids, you might disagree. But no doubt many of the jobs with a majority of female workers pay less than many jobs with a majority of male workers. Whether you think they're harder or not is irrelevant, but that is what accounts for most of the difference in pay between men and women.
/r/PussyPassDenied09/04/22 05:52 PM

This is isn't a PPD since being kicked off the plane had nothing to do with her gender. I'm not a huge fan of feminism and don't even know what intersectionality is, but this post is just a setup for hateful comments.

One of the victims of her lies skipped bail and fled the country, which is interesting, because most people assume guilt when that happens, but we know he was innocent all along, so either he feared being railroaded, or he had some other issues that the arrest compounded, either with the law or immigration.

After r/facepalm send me a message banning me from their sub, even though I had never even heard of it, let alone visit it, I replied with a "Screw off and leave me alone" message, which was then reported as harassment, and I got a message from Reddit that I was in violation of the rules. I'm in the same boat as you, getting banned from subs I've never even visited, and I'm actually center/left, more liberal than conservative, though anti leftist and anti cancel culture. It's more complicated than a simple left/right thing.

Why aren't the mods retaliating by sending ban messages to everyone in the subs that ban us? I just got a ban from a sub I've never heard of, sent them a message to screw off and leave me alone, and now I'm getting a warning for harassment. How can you be harassing people who message you first? It's insane.

I've been following this story for a while. It seems that her advisors told her that she has no chance to get back to the UK wearing that burka, so she ditched it, then did a bunch of interviews with UK tv networks looking very "normal", wearing a baseball hat. It has brought her more sympathy, but the ruling from their Supreme Court that she is barred from entry seems final.

There's really no need for a draft anymore. Even if we get into a major war, it's very unlikely we would need additional millions of troops beyond the professional armed forces. But if we are going to have a draft, there's no reason not to include women.

In my state, if she wasn't a school employee, it wouldn't even be illegal. But she was, so she deserves to be punished, although I do think 4 years is kind of crazy for a 24 yo with kids 16 and 17 where no one was coerced. I guess I'm just used to 16 being the age of consent. And 24 is still pretty young. Obviously I'd feel the same way if it was a male assistant teacher as well. Who thinks she's be more likely to do it again if she only got 2 years instead of 4?

The thing about that saying is that it glosses over the fact that females aren't making less for doing the same jobs, but in fact very different ones, often much easier physically or requiring fewer qualifications or degrees. Plus I thought it was up to 80 cents anyway.

Bond or bail is only meant to ensure the defendant shows up to court, not as a punishment. That kind of charge is relatively minor, lacking a tough potential sentence that might scare a defendant into fleeing, so a low bail is appropriate.

It may seem like a lot of money to keep someone in prison that long, but it's less than the money for all the legal work required to kill someone. No one will plead guilty to avoid trial if they are going to be executed, and then there's all the appeals. This process attracts a lot of media attention as well, making these criminals famous, when it would be better for everyone if they just lock them away and forget about them. There's a reason why almost the entire civilized world has banned the …

Personally I'm not in favor of the death penalty for criminal matters, only for terrorism and the worst kinds of treason. Not that she doesn't deserve it, but we are better than that and don't need her blood on our hands. It just doesn't work as a deterrent and cannot be applied fairly. My state banned it decades ago yet our murder rate is on the lower end. Instead, we have automatic life with no parole for all first degree murderers. Many death penalty states allow parole for 1st degree murders…

It doesn't have to involve politics to be true. I'm simply noting the similarities in the arguments of both this woman thinking she's not guilty of a crime because her attempted arson was unsuccessful and Republicans defending Trump in his extortion scheme because the Ukrainians ultimately got their money. You're entitled to your opinion, just as the people of Massachusetts are entitled to theirs, and since this case happened there, it's that opinion that matters. There have always been limits to free speech. Just as you can't yell "Fire" in a crowded theater, at least in MA you can no longer order your suicidal boyfriend back into a deathtrap of poison gas. That's a bit of wishful thinking. Even though she was denied parole, she will get an early release that reduces her time to 15 months. It was February when her appeal was denied, and a judge ordered her to jail. Therefore, we should expect her to be released by May of next year at the latest, when she will still be 23. She will have plenty of time to move on and have a life if she chooses.

It's important to note that she didn't just go crazy and steal $500,000 one day. Rather she made 147 "disguised" bank transfers, which is each an individual crime. All she had to do was sign or not sign the bill, and in an anti-abortion state like Alabama, that really wasn't much of a choice. /r/PussyPassDenied09/06/18 08:30 PM
2

Not to me it isn't, but I'm a guy. But I have seen that word drive women absolutely bonkers a bunch of different times. Basically don't use that word if you ever want access to it. Interestingly, last night in her "apology" for using that word to describe Ivanka, Samantha Bee said she was trying to reclaim the word, similarly to gays reclaiming "fag" and blacks the n-word, but she's gotten the message that women have no interest in reclaiming the word. They just want it gone.
/r/PussyPassDenied07/06/18 04:28 PM

Same here. I've been a lifelong liberal Democrat, although these days it's more like center/left. I'm still an egalitarian who opposes pussy passes yet I also oppose the women hate that pops up in this subreddit regularly. I've come to the conclusion that no side can always be right and try hard to avoid the hivemindedness that's ubiquitous to the strongly idealogical.

I believe it is a PPD, or I would not have posted it, yet unlike most situations, it was not the young girl asking for the pass but society and especially the media. Very few pieces written about it explained exactly why she was there, competing on a team yet ineligible for individual competition, choosing instead to make baseless charges of sexism and discrimination.

If you read through my comments, I specifically mentioned that Emily herself never complained about the situation. Rather it's been certain media outlets that have gotten hysterical about sexism without explaining the nuance here. In fact, the boy who ended up winning offered her the trophy and an MIAA official also said he would buy her a trophy personally. The best outcome is definitely for Emily to get a trophy. However, a rush to change the rules without looking at the possible effects on fe…

She was legitimately there to play in the team competition, because her high school does not have a girl's golf team, yet ineligible to compete in the individual competition because there's a golf tournament for girls in the spring.

The Girls' Tournament is in the spring, the Boys' is in the fall. Unless it's going to be ok for boys to compete in the girls tournament, and also in all the other girls sports, she can't be allowed to win this tournament. Obviously she is a very sympathetic figure, but would she be so sympathetic if it was the reverse situation, a boy playing in a girl's sport? This is classic PPD, only it isn't the girl here asking for the pass, but society.

As in much of life, it's not so black and white. In truth this tournament was two tournaments in one. It was a team competition among regional high school golf teams. Because her school doesn't have a girls golf team, she had every right to play on the boys team. In fact she's by far her team's best player. Even with her low score, the team didn't even qualify for the state tournament. There was also an individual competition going on, again to qualify for the state tournament. However, since th…

What the fuck is a "yob"? Never heard that one before. This was a pretty fucked up thing to do but honestly, when I see that her IQ is 55, I can't help but look at it somewhat differently. 55 is basically retarded. According to the old style language used, she's in the moron category, just barely above imbecile. I'm actually surprised the judge didn't take this more into account in his sentence.

Sure, but if they merely push you or tap you, you can't pound that person into the dirt. It has to be proportional. The jurisdiction matters as well. In states with Stand Your Ground laws, you can shoot someone who threatens you, while in other states you must be in fear for your life to use deadly force.

It depends. Was his response reasonable? If the woman hit her head and died, he would likely be facing manslaughter charges.

Any response should be proportional to the original assault and the threat present. Most people would see this as an overreaction. If she was seriously injured, he's guilty of a crime.

What about her right to be free of a physical attack? Also, what do you think a judge would say when you tell him you struck first because you wanted to preempt her attack? Raising a fist is just not the same as pointing a gun. With fists, if you don't wait until the other person to strike first, you are in the wrong, especially if it's a woman. Alternatively, if someone points a gun at you, you are free to defend yourself in any reasonable way. They are not the same. If you don't believe me, as…

Are you really comparing a small woman baring her fists at a man with her actually pointing a gun at him? With a gun, you can't afford to wait to see if she shoots. You have to take action if possible. However, with fists, since one blow is very unlikely to incapacitate a man, you have to wait until she actually strikes you. If you strike first, you are the aggressor.

I don't totally disagree with you but it's just not that black and white. There's plenty of gray. I've met many American Muslims that are quite secular in their outlook. Very nice people. Interesting cases. These chicks definitely deserve some years behind bars. However, to determine how big a problem these serial liars are, you'd have to look at the overall numbers. What percentage of people who make up rape allegations and then get caught, go on to repeat the crime later? And is this number in the same neighborhood as the percentage of people who commit sex crimes against children who later reoffend? I really don't know.

Just two weeks ago I ran into a group of women in burkas on a Boston subway train. One of them wanted me to give her my seat. The argument her lawyer made that the police can't prove it was her driving because she was wearing a burka demonstrates the folly of letting burka wearing women drive at all. How's that peripheral vision? I don't like Trump, but if he prevents this from happening in the US, good for him.
