Sounds like a difficult task especially since it has to be indirect. :/

I wouldn't have married him if he were a dork (in other words I see him as competent and do take him seriously). I think this is my fault.

Thanks for your input. I don't actually know what my husband's masculinity is tied to. He's very non traditional but masculine (stoic, logical, strong), but idk how he actually views not making money in relation to his masculinity. My femininity is taking a hit being the breadwinner though. You know we have the word emasculating, well 'effeminating' should definitely be a word too bc that's how I feel. :(

Yeah this is food for thought. I've often tried to opt out of giving him business advice because I'm already running my own business and I'm trying to stay out of it. But I think I have to be flexible here and maybe I can somehow encourage him and give him ideas for his business if he asks. I agree he needs a big win. I think that's why the usual advice (praise, appreciation, respect) just hasn't been working because he knows what the situation really is even if I try to act like he's in charge …

He's working on building his business so that's why I was thinking not to. If I make him get a job wouldn't that be just more of the same, just me bossing him around? The other thing is that I make around 60k on my business but at this point he has no references so he'd get a min wage job. Idk if that would make us feel better or worse? With him making so much less than me? And also he'd be working harder than me. Do you still think it's a good idea keeping those things in mind?

here are some of the things that I've done so far that haven't shown much progress--I naturally praise him a lot, I love that he helps me around the house which is very caring, and also I think he's good in bed, and that he's good looking. I thank him for yard work and such. I've also tried just not covering up my pain and tbh just crying and being depressed which is how I really feel. :( He just says he's depressed too. I'm thinking I just *have* to start saying I can't do things. But I don't k…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
