Thank you. I've started putting together some lists. I don't want to be involved in another relationship that has levels of abuse. As another redditor mentioned, I think attending therapy would help me. I hope that my insurance will cover some of the cost.

I'll look into if my insurance covers therapy. I think that would be very helpful. Thank you.

Thank you. Actually, it would be so helpful to speak with you regarding the legalities of my lease. I am pretty inexperienced with renting so it would be a huge help. I'll send you a PM soon.

I wish more women knew about red flags and how they shouldn't be ignored. No one in my life ever spoke to me about things that should be concerning in a relationship. Looking back on my current relationship, I can see red flags. He was possessive, always starting a fight if I left to be with friends for a few hours. I feel like I respect who he is aside from our relationship. He is completing a degree in a STEM field, he has a good paying job, and he is sociable with all our friends and family…

I agree. I have felt in the past few years that he has a lot of emotional pain from his absent father. I think that may have eventually led to his addiction. As I mentioned in my original post, my father had a very explosive temper. I saw the way he treated my mother and vowed to never have a relationship like that. Somehow, I have regardless. I thought he would change if I treated him with enough kindness. But as you said, a line must be drawn. My willingness to make it work has dwindled be…

The thought of keeping one another safe is the very basis of a relationship, fumblesRPW. I'm glad you left. The facade is slowly breaking for me as well. I definitely felt like I had found the "one", as you said. I'm not sure if "the one" exists anymore, but I'm sure I can get much closer than this. Thank you for your response and I hope you're doing well now.

Thank you. I appreciate the part you mentioned about the family. I somehow think that my family will be very upset because I brought my boyfriend so far to meet them and spoke of him so highly. In reality, I think they know that things are going downhill. It's definitely a scary thing. That heartache, the uncertainty...it does scare me. But now I think living in this condition forever scares me more. I'm happy that others have found functional relationships after situations similar to mine.

Thank you so much, Kalen. Your response really makes me tear up. It's like you've summarized everything I'm feeling. I've even thought about starting a diary to reflect back on the hard times. It's something that was very helpful to me when leaving my last relationship. I'll start doing it again. I don't think my boyfriend actively wants to hurt me and I believe he thinks he loves me. But as other users have said, he has had some trauma in his life and I think that changes the way he interacts…

Thank you so much. I actually appreciate you asking for clarification. I want to put all the details out there so you ladies may give me the best advice possible. In the beginning when I had just found out about the lying, I was very emotional. I didn't handle it the right way. I cried, questioned him, yelled. As time passed, I realized that I wasn't helping the relationship at all. I was damaging it further. I tried to understand his perspective in the situation. There are still times that I'…

Thank you so much for your kind words and advice. I appreciate you ladies very much. It's such a cliche, but he's been telling me for so long that he'll change. It all hurts me so much. It's so hard to come to terms that a person who has done so much for me, is also hurting me. I've been having this gut feeling that I should leave, but then there are the times I see the person I used to think he was. I question if I am overthinking things and if it's just a hamster situation. It's good to see …

Thank you very much for your thoughts. I really appreciate it. I read another person's post earlier that said something along the lines of, "A good father is the best gift you can give your children". That phrase has been on my mind all day. There are no extenuating circumstances like that. When I read the lease agreement earlier, I didn't see any clause about breaking the lease. It's the first apartment I've rented and I'm worried that a) I would need his consent to break the lease and b) bre…
