men and women are both supposed to "lower their gaze" from each other and also not supposed to appear in a state of undress, which means different things for men and women. I think the double standard you are pointing out is part of the growing pains of bringing women into more prominent and public places in society and dealing with the unintended consequences of that. Again it makes women unaccountable aristocracy. I'm not sure if you are talking about American society or Islamic ones. In Islam…

that is more or less how Muslims see women. It's pretty frustrating when they get accused of the opposite.

funny, we Muslims get accused of using these standards to control women. I tend to get shouted down when I suggest the alternative to Islamic modesty is male sexual entitlement and unfettered access to women's bodies. What men would ever dream up a rule where they can't enjoy women without pledging their whole life to them? Apparently Muslims. I can see why a lot of mens rights posters would disagree with traditional religious standards of modesty and the sacredness of sexuality. If more people …

we definitely espouse this kind of sacred respect for the human condition in more extreme cases. For example, we don't eat people, even if they are dead, no matter how much they acted like animals while alive, but we have no problem eating dead animals. What's the difference? It's just respect for the dignity of people. But yes, I agree that you can forfeit your dignity the same way a criminal's freedom can be forfeit. I just think it takes a lot more than an unwanted nipple twist from a drunk g…

Is there inherent dignity in public drunkenness? In telling a stranger you're going to twist his nipples? In ignoring his protests and doing so anyway? No, there is no dignity in any of those things. I said above that I think that a woman's dignity should be respected even if she chooses to disrespect herself. Besides, if you treat dignified people with dignity, then you simply give them what they deserve, but if you treat undignified people with dignity, that's real character. I just want to tr…

I'm old fashioned. I'm pretty okay with the double standard that does not allow men to hit women. There, I said it. Men can accuse me BS sexism. Women can accuse me of treating them as the "gentler, fairer" sex, but whatever. I'm guilty of both. if a woman acts like a fool, that's her problem, and situations that may allow you to retaliate against a man simply do not warrant you to full-out punch a woman in the gut so hard she crumbles to the ground. I don't care if she's bigger than you, strong…

I imagine there is quite a bit of discrimination against women in entry-level jobs. The higher salaried jobs often overcompensate talented upstarts in order to attract them to stay with the job - competition for the top talent if you will. The employer is hoping to get you to stay in the long term by throwing a little extra cash your way now. That same employer might think twice about a woman, no matter how talented, simply because her potential pregnancy might be a liability. It's a serious pro…
