Yup my mom is constantly fuming about one of her best friends. A selfless woman who didn’t have children but was a step mother to her second husband’s son. She found out she has cancer and he left her. My mom is so upset about it and doing what she can to help her but the friend in our heavily sanctioned country of origin and we’re across the world. My mom’s advice is to always “fill up under you.” It’s hard to translate but it means to keep working to give yourself a safety net and something to…

I struggle with this one. Sociology at the local, high ranking private school is better in the long run than engineering at the local state school? For status, no. The top private school will always stand out to people and wins in that category. But financials? No debt and a quick in to a well paying job... state school wins there. I think it’s just part of the UMC mindset. I think I’ve been brainwashed by my family to automatically hate state schools

Nope immigrants and their children follow the same UMC/MC formula. Wealthy, educated, secular, stable families want the same for their children. My parents would rather me marry someone with a doctorate level degree who makes $130k than someone with a bachelors degree from lower tier who makes $180k and has no debt. Sounds crazy but that’s my family’s mentality. Education is king in my family. There are also very wealthy people in our community who make a fortune in real estate or car dealership…

Write the letter like the commenter suggested but... don’t send it to him. He knows what he did. Unfortunately he doesn’t care. Do not send more ammo for him to use against you and hold over your head. The goal here really is to move on. Ask yourself what you expect to get out of this. An apology? You won’t get it. Remorse? You won’t get it. A love confession? You won’t get it. So then what is this for? If you don’t need his response, then why send it to him?

Not to nitpick, but you can’t really see the effects of Botox until older age. Botox is injected to mitigate developing wrinkles and to prevent future wrinkles and it is also used to prevent migraines and stop excessive underarm sweat. You’re probably referring to fillers, an excess of which leads to the Kylie Jenner look (and basically every woman with over 10k IG followers).

Yup. I was discussing this with my mom today. Her generation’s men prized simple (not much makeup / no flashy look), highly educated girls from families with status (parents are from the Middle East but not religious) and she’s realizing that all my done-up, hot, bachelors degree friends are in relationships with good men and the simple, educated girls are not as much (some are). A balance must be struck.

I lived there from 23-26 so I can’t say about late twenties but I had friends of many ages and met no married couples except for my cultural friends in the South Bay who I socialized with bc of my bf at the time. Nobody I dated told me their long term intentions outright of course so I just stopped dating but I didn’t get a sense of settling down from men of any age. I haven’t lived anywhere but SF and LA/OC so I can’t really compare it. It’s not an awful place at all, it’s just the tech, money,…

Sure! SF is a very fun place if you are active and will take advantage of the nature, food scene, and activities. In terms of dating: men outnumber women, men are looking to be single until much later and instead opting to dedicate their free time to preparing for burning man, everyone is into meditation and fancy yoga and self help and talks about it all the time making them especially insufferable, the entrepreneur ones are very condescending and you help them so much and never get anything in…

?? I can’t speak for all Iranians in Iran. Never heard anyone in my family say they “hate” anyone. I’m Iranian-American so I hang out with Arab-American friends and I love them. They’re all Christian or secular like me. I have even more Jewish friends. While I love stereotyping people as a game, I’m not going to generalize anybody. Plus we live in the US - an equalizer. A political debate is not the same as hating people.

Lmfao again. There are more Muslims outside of the Middle East than in it. There are more fat, lonely virgins in Japan than the Middle East I guarantee. More arranged marriages in Hindu India than the Middle East. But you’re so fucking geographically challenged you don’t even know if you’re talking about Islam or Arabs or the Middle East.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/12/20 05:23 PM

You’ve said this random, rude shit about Arabs twice and why? Are you referring to Islam? Because there are more Muslims outside of the Middle East than in it. Are you referring to Lebanese, Palestinian, Jordanian, Iraqi, Saudi, Egyptian, UAE, Omani, Kuwaiti, Syrian people specifically? What the heck is this random hang up that caused you to say it twice with no further explanation?

The comments saying “dump him” right away sound rash and it hurts to think it, but unless you are 100% on board and there’s a specific REASON he should be a stay at home dad... then he is asking you to live an $80k life when you could be living a $160k life. A $90k life over a $180k life. A $100k life over a $200k life. It would be a world of difference for your children to have the double income. Block him on all social media and delete his number, never speak to him ever again. If he says “happy birthday” you don’t respond. If he asks for a good restaurant in your area, you don’t respond. I’m picky about career. I personally value education so I am looking for someone with at least a graduate degree. I don’t get excited about finance sans MBA, entry level engineering, real estate, entrepreneurship etc. I’m looking more for the medicine, law, research crowd. The rules obviously aren’t set in stone but I like what I like. And yes, I am in one of those categories myself so I’m just looking for a respective match. Yeah 2017-2018 was the turning point - broke up w my ex in late 2017 and in late 2018 got stood up by someone I had been seeing for over a month and then it hit me that I was interpreting things all wrong aka making excuses and investing way too much mentally in men that didn’t deserve it... left RPW mentality in 2018 behind in because it wasn’t working for a woman like me (stem masters and now in law school, sociable, volunteer a lot, good family, artistic, fit). Well my parents are from an Islamic theocracy so I wouldn’t want to swap because then it would just be more oppressive for men but it’d be nice for my extended family to not live under actual gender-based oppression. Lol my cousin in Tehran told me young dating couples just do butt stuff now to avoid losing their virginity. Secular families in the Middle East party just as hard as anyone - I’ve gotten shit faced off vodka cranberries at a house party in Tehran and I know mixed gender groups go on trips to their family’s villa (you don’t have to be filthy rich to have a “villa” there) or on camping trips around the country

Following RPW turned me into an emotionally volatile doormat so I left the community. That was during 2016-2018 when I too fell captive to the alt-right YouTube algorithm (it all started with an innocent lib-owning compilation) and I would’ve paid to suck Shapiro or Crowder’s dick. FDS helped me calibrate myself back to normal.

It matters to me. But I value stability over quick money. In my culture, we like degrees so that’s what I’m personally looking for. We also care a lot about what someone’s parents do and what background they come from. On the other hand, entrepreneurship freaks me out a bit. I respect their hustle 100% but a more adventurous girl than I would be suited for them.

Idk about almost. She’s still kind of on the wrong end of the spectrum, with the middle being silent, neutral, absorbing and the other end being successful, secure and thriving. This may sound petty, but I find it a little satisfying to see these conservative talking heads have difficulty balancing “trad” and career woman personalities. In this context it sounds fine. He didn’t say he misses the way she used to correct him, just that she did do that and it was helpful in learning the language. No harm in my opinion. Yeah seems exclusive to Shia from what I just read on Wikipedia. If anything this is a loose and dirty practice so the Sunni look down upon it because they hold the definition of marriage to a more “strict” standard (relatively). It’s part of the several reasons why Sunni call Shia fake Muslims lol

Depends who you’re talking to. I went to HS with the girl who was rumored to be Travis’ side chick... I didn’t know her too well but we had some mutual friends and we went to maybe two or three of the same birthdays. This was of course before all the plastic surgery. She’s completely unrecognizable now. I didn’t know her true personality so I won’t comment on that. It’s crazy who rappers like Travis with girls like Kylie will cheat on their girls with. Really makes you think about it all.

Lmao I went to high school with that guy. He was two years older than me and was in my math class for a bit. His brother was in my grade and was a cool guy. Really really sad and disturbing what happened to their dad though (went missing and body found years later).

I’m applying to law school right now and of course I’m not banking on meeting someone there but I’m looking forward to making new friends and then maybe meeting THEIR friends who will hopefully also be educated professionals.

The worst first date I’ve ever been on was the one where he took me to way too many nice places, spent too much money, and wasted too many hours of my day, coincidentally in SF and Sausalito. Wish I say enough earlier in the day, but now I know.

The only urges I have are to send racy snaps to some guy from undergrad so he says I’m hot. Then I just think “what’s the point.” It’ll get dragged into some awkward digital sexting thing that I don’t have time or energy for. As for actual fuckboys in my city? No. Never. I’m way too jaded by the really bad sex I had in 2018. So much so that I didn’t have sex for all of 2019. I know FDS advocates for FWB but I tried that last year and he ruined my friend group via gossip. Figures - I was too emba…

Eh it’s pretty damn long at this point, I wouldn’t blame him if he said something. I would do the same. But very short and well groomed? A HVM should not care. Nobody has said anything in the past about hair growing in after a wax. Perhaps they were thinking it, but I have no way of knowing and I don’t care lol

Work on making a digital vision board on what you want your 2020 to look like. I made mine on a google slideshow with slides for your professional, fashion, lifestyle goals etc. using pics from my Pinterest boards. Also, TMI but growing my pubes out has kept me from touching men in any capacity for a long time. I will remove the hair when I anticipate good sex. It’s been over a year now and it might become two or three idk. Ain’t nobody impressed me in a while. I’m good, I got time.

Why would you move to a new country to live with a boyfriend at university age???? I can’t even fathom such a thing... Consider this a major lesson learned! Best of luck for 2020 - you deserve better than him

Well that actually makes sense.. either set your dates later so he can freshen up at home or go on weekend dates... a man working hard at his job and then rushing to take you on nice dates isn’t really a good enough reason to dump him...

Same here... How did you pinpoint your own style? I’m 26 and I’m definitely fine with my dress and look - I get compliments regularly but I’m never fully content with my look.. I use Pinterest a lot for inspiration and leisure but I still don’t feel 100% about it

Thank you. I’m definitely too hard on myself. I think my lack of friendships and dating success with super hot guys is due to the fact that I don’t FEEL pretty and sexy. But also I don’t feel sexy because I don’t go the full yard in my appearance. To me I’m trying but when I see my friends’ closets and vanities, I know there’s more I could be doing. But first things first, I want to feel good about myself and project it onto the world for everyone to see..

YUP! I’m first gen (I never know what the right term is - aren’t I first gen if my parents are the immigrants?) anyway I was born in the US. I dated one fob who tried really hard to be American. He was a cool guy, but my parents met him, didn’t like him at ALL, and pressured me to break it off because they were afraid that I was under his spell and he would want to marry me for citizenship. Granted my parents overreacted a little because he was western in his mindset enough to not mention marria…

Why Middle Eastern? Broad brush there... are Christian Lebanese, Israeli, Coptic Egyptians, atheist/secular others automatically bad men? My dad is a good Middle Eastern man who left a theocracy to give his child (me) a better life... Islam on the other hand is a different story. I’m guessing you mean foreign-born men of that background.

I am 5’7” and I prefer a man to be 5’9” to 6’02” max (super tall guys weird me out, I’m not sure why) but my only relationship was with a man who was 5’6”ish as I found him very attractive. I wouldn’t overlook a guy who was 5’8” at all. He may not be a tall guy but I am an above average height girl.

No worries - that’s why I added the “if your schedules are open” clause because I know how busy people can be. But I mean if you’re getting dates already then why waste your time with this one? And if you’re ok with fuckboys and fwb, why are you asking us for advice? Seems like you already know the answer to this one lol
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy27/11/19 10:40 PM

You should have cut it off after 1 week if your schedules were open. It doesn’t matter if you texted for 5 years and got married over the phone - anything that was said is moot point if you haven’t met yet. It’s worth nada, zilch, nothing. You set the value to your time and your time right now is worth the price of being led on by someone you already describe as a fuckboy. Think about it.

Yeah kinda. He literally has no idea who you are, how can he call you “kind” and “funny”? “Absolutely perfect”? You’re not perfect, nobody is. It’s pretty cringe and desperate. He thinks this sort of interaction bonds you to him before you’ve ever met and he can push further in person since he thinks he knows you so well already. “Come on! Why don’t you come over? We have so much in common!” Maybe I’m speculating, but that sort of thing is an instant turnoff for me.

True, but I have found that parents usually do have more experience and wisdom to help us with our decisions. They’ve seen their peers marry, have children and divorce, so they can spot things we may not be able to. However, it is also true that you ultimately make the decisions.

Some parents pitch in tens of thousands of dollars for an engagement party or wedding.. or help with the down payment if it’s the couple’s first house together.. things like that. I totally get that that’s not everyone’s circumstance though.

I like the sentiment but parents of sound mind who may have financial stake in the marriage are the ultimate vetters so their opinion definitely matters before engagement. If one is introducing their parents to their man for the first time as a fiancé, then they either had a scary quick transition from meeting to engagement or they hid the relationship for multiple years which isn’t healthy either. My parents are a bit conservative and old-school and they were upset that I didn’t tell them about…

Ohhh I see what you mean. That is a very real phenomenon, but I wonder if it’s still ultimately tied to economic advantages for women, which is basically the same reason why the birth rate is dropping as countries become more industrialized. The fact that women don’t need to marry or birth children to secure an income anymore means a lot of them will choose not to (or just have fewer children). I can’t comment much about Japan’s situation, but Christiane Amanpour’s show Love and Sex Around the W…

You think men and women are rejecting millions of years of biological and evolutionary imperative because all of a sudden they don’t like each other? What kind of evidence do you have? What variables would you even measure that by? Do you think this is a worldwide phenomenon or just a Western one? There’s a pretty clear correlation with education level and number of children that transcends western or eastern ideologies. While we may be headed toward a greater class divide worldwide, the standar…

Great post. I feel like us Iranian-Americans need our own post because our dating expectations are so damn confusing. Most of our families reject Islam because of the Islamic regime back in the motherland, and we are actually prejudiced against practicing Muslim families because we consider them to be backwards and idk.. lower class? Less educated? (Obviously not true). Contrary to others, we get married LATE. To get married in your early to mid twenties means you didn’t value your education eno…

Consider your update another lesson in vetting men... would it be funnier if he had domestic abuse charges? It reflects even worse on you to try to get petty revenge on a criminal*...for what?Sorry for the tough love but the update didn’t make the situation any better. Edited to be less harsh.

This same thing happened to my friend this summer to the point where I thought she wrote this at first. They live a 15 minute Uber and a 30 minute bus ride away in the same city and that didn’t help. They didn’t hook up while abroad but she couldn’t stop thinking about him until he returned and took her out. He love bombed her for 2 months and she fell for it and he basically faded away under the guise of “not knowing what he wants” “just getting out of a relationship” etc. He should have though…

Just keep working on yourself. It’s not healthy to date if you feel gross no matter what your weight is, but if you feel beautiful at this weight then carry on as usual while you’re on your journey. There was a video posted here where guys said they prefer a pretty face over a perfect body, but we should always strive for a HEALTHIER body. If you’re confident and truly love yourself (not an easy task), you’ll want to make the changes to better yourself. So I’m really proud of you for taking this…

Sorry but this was very cringe-y to read. I thought just being around him would be the climax of the story but it went way further than i expected. Shoulda blocked from the beginning and never spoken to him again. “Staying friends” is something the vast majority of people can’t handle (I’m one of them) save for the few that can deal it. What were you looking to obtain by being around him? Validation? A “Babe I miss you, let’s try this again”??? No way in hell. You’ve learned a lesson here. You d…

14 months here. This is really gross but I just made my FDS throwaway and I’ll say anything now: grow your pubes out. Especially now that it’s winter, there is no better deterrent to hands and penis than a full, untrimmed bush. You will not even entertain the thought of going to any man’s house, letting any man touch you down there, etc. this may not work if you swim a lot (get the bikini line waxed I guess) but for everyone else... give it a try. You’ll grow to love it, not be embarrassed of it…
