The grooming was so strong. By the time women in my life were actually telling me this (nearly word for word) I was too far gone and just took offense. “Are you saying I’m NOT mature for my age? Are you saying my boyfriend isn’t AMAZING? Wow you’re really rude, shut up.” I cringe soooo hard now. They were completely right. I wasn’t mature for my very young age. He was a crusty dropout who couldn’t even hold down a part-time minimum wage job. When I finally dumped him (after letting him dominate …

Same, I thought it was normal. I didn’t realize I had other options. I didn’t even consider being single as an option. Edit: thankfully I came to my senses eventually. Then I quickly met the man who would become my husband! If I’d have still been wasting my time around clowns, my heart wouldn’t have been open to him.

I needed it at like 13 or 14, because that’s when grownup manbabies started trying to get in my pants. In hindsight it’s completely disgusting but as a young girl I had no idea. I thought it was a compliment. “Ooh a guy in college likes me? Wow he must think I carry on a conversation just as well as a college woman would!” Yeah I really thought that. Turns out they were just predatory dudes who aren’t good enough for women their own age. I learned so much toxic, misogynistic BS that took years (…

Back when I was still dating, I remember so many guys shaming me for having things to say. Excuse me for having life experiences and actual thoughts to talk about! But back then I didn’t know FDS so I’d be shamed into silence, and rely on them to hold up their end of the conversation instead. Can anyone guess how well that went? Not only do guys like this mostly just talk about themselves, but it’s not even interesting things either. They say stuff like “oh, I mostly just play games” and then ra…

D-Day is the day a partner finds out about an affair or cheating incident. I first heard the term on Chump Lady which is a fantastic blog about life after a cheater.

I’m so glad you brought up that episode of Lizzie McGuire. I re-watched the show recently and was FLOORED when that episode came on. Her own mother is teaching her that horrible, toxic lesson. She basically said she is OBLIGATED to date the creepy guy who doesn’t shower, just because he asked her out. I was like 11 or 12 when that show was on, and I can’t believe I uncritically accepted that message. I can’t understate how appalled I was when I re-watched it recently. So glad I’m not alone in no…

Half my drinkware is “real” and the other half are jars that used to hold pasta sauce. I can’t help but notice I ALWAYS reach for the jars! They’re the perfect shape and size.

So because he doesn’t like one of the sources you provided, all the other ones are invalid as well, even though they all state the same facts?

For real. Meanwhile my husband is on fucking chemo and sometimes has to run out of the room mid-sentence to avoid literally shitting himself. And do I love him any less for it? No, because I’m a decent human being who can recognize his HVM qualities like having an impressive career, paying our rent, cooking for us, building us furniture from scratch based on my vague descriptions of what I want. But for the most part, men are mostly ridiculous infants, who will reject a woman based on stupid cri…

Agreed! I’m so surprised by people’s takes in this thread acting like she’s saying this as a positive thing. It’s clear she’s calling out male trolls for being thirsty and desperate.

The woman gave him a quarter century of her life that she’ll never get back, and carried all four of his children, and he’s turned off that she no longer looks like a teenager. Wow. Just wow. How much you want to bet he’s not much of a looker himself...

Well, if they’re stuck inside anyway, it’s a perfectly good time to learn how to cook. There are literally thousands of recipes for free just a search engine query away, not to mention all the recipe videos on YouTube that break everything down into simple steps. When a man claims he can’t cook, what he means is he is unwilling to put forth effort for something crucial, and that he can’t follow even the simplest directions. Those are two major red flags. I used to be such a pickme and now I’m so…

I knew a divorced mother of five who claims she never pooped in her home bathroom when her ex-husband was home. Not one time in over a decade, she claimed. She said if it was an emergency she’d go to a nearby convenient store. Honestly one of the weirdest things I’ve ever heard in my life.

I’m confused. You were already at the restaurant, but when he arrived he asked if you were ready to go to the restaurant? The one you were already at that he met you at?

This Miles dude is publicly criticizing his own girlfriend and speculating about breaking up with her, on a public platform. If he’s posting with his real name, that is seriously disrespectful. He could have that conversation with his gf privately instead of publicly putting her down to compliment a woman he probably doesn’t even know.

That was painful to read. Why would she even WANT to be with a guy like him?

I don’t mean to derail but notice how nearly every post about HVM mentions him having sisters? Or being raised primarily by a mom, or being raised in a matriarchal household with aunties and grandmas... I’ve also noticed it offline. When you meet a man who just exudes HVM-ness and respectful gentlemanliness, just wait until family comes up. Guarantee he starts talking about having lots of sisters, speaks highly of his mom, was raised in a female-led household. Does anyone else notice this? Obvio…

This is so true. There is never any discussion on FDS about how we can trick men, make ourselves seem better than we are, find men with weaknesses to prey on, manipulate men or force them to change. Our entire “strategy” here is just to leave them when they show themselves to be LVM and (optionally, if possible) find a HVM. That’s it. No lying. No trickery. No manipulation. Not comparable at all to PUA strategy at all.

Was anyone else irritated that she left the game there for him to keep? Them shits are like $60! If he cared about her so little to cheat on her like that, he probably wasn’t all that hurt by this and still enjoyed the game. If it were me, I wouldn’t have left the game, my key, and his breakfast. That’s closure. I’d have made it look like I was never even there. Let him sweat. Let him wonder what it was that made me leave.

I’d take this with a grain of salt if it was during college. For any college-aged individuals, it is a wise move not to alter any pre-determined college and early career plans for someone they’re dating, especially if they haven’t been dating a super long time. Take for example a couple that meets in senior year of college and hit it off really well, but then they find they’ve both committed to different grad schools or internships really far sway from each other. If that were the situation - an…

The parenthetical in your first paragraph reminded me that in many parts of the world, the idea that medical/dental debt can be life-ruining is such an absurd idea that you had to explain it in a parenthetical. And yet in the US we are like “is universal healthcare even possible? who knows...” like, the rest of the world. That’s who knows.

I agree with you. It’s a red flag to have no platonic female friends, because why can’t he be friends with women? Yet the “longtime close female friend” thing can be such a red flag when you aren’t sure yet if he’s a good man or not. When I first met my now-husband I was cautiously optimistic about the fact that he had a mixture of men and women as close friends. But nothing I ever saw in any of their interactions ever sent up the red flag for me. As I got to know him I realized he came from a f…
