I'm not saying the data are false, I'm saying the thing that makes him a piece of shit isn't the statistical data, it's the lens through which he's choosing to interpret it, which is: because largely black countries do worse, black people are worse people. And you're doing the same thing.

Yeah, and the fact is that you at least partially hold the same perspective as one of the most infamous racists in recent years.

I mean, judging by the number of downvotes I've gotten I'd say I hit a sensitive spot for this sub lol. I've even gotten some responses actually advocating the racial superiority of whites. Like I said, I'm not exempting anyone from personal responsibility nor am I advocating for blaming white people for everything. I do think our history and culture plays a large part in the perpetual poverty of black communities, with your example of a kind of cultural poverty being a real part of it. So we ag…

See the rest of my comment. This is a larger concept than physically forcing someone to do something, although I'm not exempting anyone from personal responsibility. I'm just acknowledging that our society is sophisticated, which is a good thing. Idk why that pisses you guys off so much

Dude, your comment was a watered down version of "if black people don't suck then why do predominantly black countries suck." If that's not racist I don't know what is. Edit: I should also point out that your point is exactly something that Richard Spencer, self proclaimed leader of white nationalism, advocates. Facts > feelings, amiright?

Well, he said "melanin pass" which seemed to me to be a generality about people with more melanin. Seems pretty straight forward tbh

That's true, some commit more crimes than others. I just think there's a nuanced conversation to be had about why that is and how we can fix it. I think it's a reasonably conservative thing to want to talk about values, even if it doesn't fit the narrative of this sub.
/r/PussyPassDenied22/04/18 04:27 AM

I agree, I'm building myself too. But I recognize that I have a lot of tools that other people might not have and that other people have tools that I don't. And that's ok. It's just a reasonable nuance. Everyone faces adversity, but not all adversity is equal in magnitude and breadth. The better your environment, the more likely it is you'll have the idea to strive. Why would you have hope if everything around you your whole life has been hopelessness? Death and drugs and crime and poverty and a…

Wow, sorry, I didn't realize you guys were going full Richard Spencer level racial superiority now. If you can't understand how histories between continents can have different outcomes I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you can't imagine any nuance in our modern society.

I appreciate that yours is the most thoughtful response I've gotten. I agree that a hate crime is a hate crime. You should consider the connotation of something like "melanin pass" though. I'm obviously the outgroup in this sub, but I think that would signal real racism to like 90% of the irl population.
/r/PussyPassDenied22/04/18 02:03 AM

Which creates a stereotype, which causes society to treat them differently, which causes them to break the law far more often. I'm not saying individuals aren't responsible of their actions. I'm saying our actions are informed by our environments, and minority environments foster more crime while white environments foster shallow generalizations towards minorities. The reason for both may be that it's the simplest, most apparent option.
/r/PussyPassDenied22/04/18 01:57 AM

I never said they didn't, although I think that's as simple of an answer to a pretty complex social issue (race/crime/poverty) as you can get.
/r/PussyPassDenied22/04/18 01:52 AM
-6

It does matter what generally happens when you make generalizations.
/r/PussyPassDenied22/04/18 01:14 AM

I'm just saying, it's a simple fact that minorities are more affected by the law than white people. I think your paranoia is exacerbated by an alarmist narrative that inadvertently fuels actual racism.

Regardless of the top comment the vast majority of participation in this sub is toxic and I've been downvotes to shit for pointing it out more than once. It's a circlejerk because a lot of the community is here to support others and be supported in their vitriolic ideology. What I added to the conversation was notice of the irony in guys being considerate of a group of people that they usually diminish simply because it fits their narrative in this context, furthering my point about how this sub…

Ironically, that same demographic you're talking about is one that is a ninety-nine percent likely to get thrown under the bus by this sub in other contexts. "statistically blacks kill more blacks, why don't they stop killing eachother?" "Maybe if they weren't so lazy" This sub is just a circlejerk for incels to whine about how mean women are to them, there's no critical thinking taking place.

It was done in order to show people who otherwise are much less likely to experience discrimination what it's like. Was it fair? No, that's the point. The photographer wasn't wrong, just deaf to the message, just like everyone else in this sub.

African Americans are more likely to be impoverished and imprisoned. While that isn't caused by overt racism, it's systemic racism left over from our overtly racist past. These are not difficult concepts.

/r/PussyPassDenied30/10/17 01:33 AM
-10

Maybe she'll state her purpose explicitly next time, maybe she should've this time. Either way, I think it can be pretty reasonably expected for a person to determine the purpose of the demonstration. My opinion as that she didn't do it to enflame people, she did it to share an experience.
/r/PussyPassDenied30/10/17 01:31 AM
-8

Demonstrating discrimination is not the same as active discrimination. We can stop talking about discrimination when it is statistically negligible, until then it's a valid, if not inconvenient and uncomfortable for groups not experiencing it, societal issue.
/r/PussyPassDenied30/10/17 01:27 AM

I'm not here to play the "does race matter or not" game, although empirically it very clearly still does, I'm just pointing out that she wasn't being maliciously racist any more than the photographer was. Which is to say 0 amount.
/r/PussyPassDenied30/10/17 01:25 AM

Lol yeah I'm sure the artists hates her white fans. You're intentionally missing the point.
/r/PussyPassDenied30/10/17 01:15 AM

What never happens? Minorities getting the raw end of the deal? That's empirically false and not conducive to a constructive conversation.
/r/PussyPassDenied30/10/17 01:14 AM
-5

You have every right to have that opinion, and maybe you're right. I'm just pointing out her intention and recognizing that she wasn't being maliciously racist towards her fans.
/r/PussyPassDenied30/10/17 01:10 AM
-32

That's not at all what I think. I think that in general white people don't receive as much discrimination as minorities. She was emulating discrimination as a statement and learning experience for those who might not have otherwise experienced it.

I think this is the article I read originally. Thank you for the legitimate question, valid engagement is why I'm still here.
/r/PussyPassDenied30/10/17 01:07 AM

No, white people can definitely experience racism. I'm white and from the south. I once visited an area just outside Memphis that was extremely predominantly black. It jostled my system experiencing being the minority. I'm saying that sensation is exactly what she was trying to create.

Memes> nuance I guess
/r/PussyPassDenied30/10/17 12:54 AM
-3

We're talking about the issue, aren't we? Besides, a large point of art is to express how we feel, so she demonstrated how discrimination felt. Whether or not you agree with it is up to you, I'm just saying that's why she did it, not because she hates her white fans.
/r/PussyPassDenied30/10/17 12:54 AM
-40

I just explained it, let's not be pedantic. There is no official segregation obviously, but racism is alive and prejudice exists against minorities that white people never experience. The purpose of the demonstration was to expose them to this experience so they could better understand what it's like to be a minority.
/r/PussyPassDenied30/10/17 12:44 AM
-228

Can we have a conversation that isn't watered down by slogans offered up to us by our ideological teams? Let's be adults. Minorities can certainly be racist. This wasn't an example of that. This was an example of minorities showing majorities what it's like to be treated like a minority, because otherwise they don't have that experience.
/r/PussyPassDenied30/10/17 12:37 AM
-771

Edit: ITT- people downvoting cause I'm not stroking this subs ego. She's not racist and niether was the photographer, she was demonstrating racism for people who don't usually experience it. Usually minorities get the raw end of the deal and white people don't really get it cause they haven't experienced it, so you do something like this for them to experience it and learn. The photographer just missed the point. She was supposed to experience injustice but she just reacted to it instead.
/r/PussyPassDenied30/10/17 12:28 AM

As I said in another comment, I think Kanye could get away with this. While I think the venue overreacted, I don't think the performer was being maliciously racist. The point of the demonstration was to show white people what racism feels like, not to actually hate them. The photographer got called out for not picking up on it.
/r/PussyPassDenied30/10/17 12:06 AM
-7

See, I get this argument. I think Kanye could get away with this though. The thing is that she isn't getting minorities in front because she's racist against white people, she's demonstrating to white people how racism feels when imposed on them. The photographer stood up for her rights, but the point of the thing was to show you what it felt like when they were taken away because of the color of your skin. So she was deaf to the point, but I wouldn't call her racist by any means.

I recognize that companies incentivize diversity, and I agree that having underqualified workers is a bad thing. These programs don't exist just because employers like to see different looking people every once in a while though, we encourage stuff like this so that we can distribute power in our society to classes of people who are often denied access to it because of our history. You could probably talk me down to thinking of it on the level of Fox, but something in me doubts WaPo ever has or ever will publish an editorial on the lizard people lol. Here is a CNN article on the study, but in case that's still 🚨FAKE NEWS 🚨 you can find the link to purchase the study itself for 5$, as well as a synopsis of the study from the university that conducted it, here.

The difference here is that affirmative action is about encouraging underprivileged classes to participate in society because they haven't traditionally been able to. I'm not saying that women should be shoved into positions they don't deserve, I'm saying that the idea that they're being force fed to companies in a way that's harming men in any substantial way on a statistical level is completely unsupported by fact. So yeah, it's redpill-neckbeardy to be complaining about women not playing fair…

It's ridiculous to me that people actually think that the most homogenous, powerful group in our society is being oppressed by minorities and women, and it's the same people that make fun of people who are actually getting the short end of the stick for speaking up about it. As much as you guys like to act all hard-line reality, bootstrap kinda people you sure do cry a lot about not having enough privilege. Find me a group of statistics that back the idea that white guys are being mistreated in …

I said please! Oh, how your "I'm from the real world... Nothing personell kid" rhetoric makes me cry! Heads up, real world generally doesn't look at content like this and get as giddy as you assholes would like them to. Most people are a little more aware than that.

You have to be an alt-right neckbeard to think that's a legitimate issue worth crying about.

Lol this was already a sub about not letting people get away with things they shouldn't, you insecure fucks just came in here and made it your circlejerk place. Maybe I'm just too "low-test" to have the kind of autistic rage against women and minorities that you guys do.

Like I said to the other guy, until you offer me a counter source better than the unfounded circle jerk you guys have going on it's more than valid.

Oh no mister big strong guy, please don't, I don't think my little socially aware heart could take it! Seriously, if you gotta be offensive to make yourself feel superior to others you're the pansy, not me. Let's grow up a little bit.

Any source is more reliable than a bunch of insecure jerkoffs wonton opinions on this sub. Until you give me something to back you with a better source, WaPo is plenty validation whether you want to deny it or not.

It's not that they're offering good life experience, it's the opposite. They're assumed to be taking of the younger persons naivety.

Generally when younger people have a large age gap it's looked down upon because the older party is assumed to be leveraging the younger persons lack of life experience to take advantage of them.

Are you serious right now? I know female soldiers who are on the front lines just like any guy wouldnbe, and they want to be there for the same reasons. I know women who have been in the military for 20+ years that are more accurate with a weapon and have more drive than a lot of men I know. Just because someone's a woman doesn't mean that they're passive weak or indecisive any more than being a man means the opposite and it's pretty ignorant to think so. There are many strong women who lead and…

It wouldn't the fact that she's a woman that would prevent her from being effective though, it'd be that she was too weak. A guy could be too weak also, but they train to prevent that. It's about equality in that if both genders are held to the same standard then it doesn't matter which sex you belong to.

You were saying that a specific group of people lacked self respect and responsibility because they speak the way they were raised to speak. I was saying that they can't help the way they were raised to speak any more than they can help the place they grew up or the people they grew up around. You can pick apart the way I worded myself all you want, but it still doesn't change the fact that undermining people because of their speech patterns is unjustified. Like, where I'm from, a lot of people …

You're the one talking like an ignorant tool right now. These people don't talk that way because they're lesser than you either in intelligence or self respect, it's because when you grow up around people who speak that way it becomes the way you understand how English is to be spoken, and there's a lot of pressure from one's peers and family members to maintain Ebonics. I'm from the south and I tend to say y'all; doesn't mean I don't understand that it isn't technically correct English, that's …
