What you described is gender reassignment surgery, and cross dressing. Transgender people aren't cross dressers, though they might seem similar to someone who doesn't understand the distinction. And not all trans people opt for surgery.

I absolutely agree that you don't need to fit. Into society's gender expectations, and that being a feminine man is not the same as being transgender. But pretending trans people aren't real is literally why the suicide rate is high. Imagine if everyone was constantly claiming that you were just lying about your gender and calling you slurs, it'd be terrible Same as why gay people have a higher suicide rate: it's not because we're gay, it's because of people making life miserable for gays
