| -19 | Question about the influence of online discourse on women's perception of dangerThe reason why more men are assaulted and murdered while walking the streets could be because women are scared to walk the streets? I (46M) live in South Africa, so I'm scared to walk the streets. But I still do. I just keep my eyes open and I'm ready to run. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 08/03/26 05:24 AM |
Male victimization rates of IPV are far higher than people thinkIn South Africa, the amount of women killed by their partners and men killed by their partners is almost equal. About 53.5% of IPV murder victims are women. When it comes to all murder, men are usually 83 or 84% of the victims. But our government has just declared violence against women to be a national disaster. We have 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence (they mean violence against women) and we hear all the time about the 'war against women'. Nobody cares about male victims. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 04/03/26 10:42 AM

Is femicide an unfair term?No problem mate. Spread them far and wide! But be careful out there. A lot of people get quite abusive when you tell them things like this. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 26/11/25 11:05 AM
Is femicide an unfair term?Funnily enough when I was discussing this with GPT it gave me stats showing 83% of murders were men, and that intimate partner murders are almost equal, but still kept insisting that women are disproportionately affected. It tried a few times to gaslight me, but when I kept calling it out it eventually begrudgingly agreed that it would be wrong to say that based on the facts. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 26/11/25 10:50 AM
Is femicide an unfair term? No. The murder figures are from the SAPS annual report (actually from ChatGPT, I didn't look through the report to find them, although I've seen other figures from a few years ago which was about 18,000 murders, 84% of which were men, so I believe these figures to be correct). ChatGPT gave me this link as a reference: https://nationalgovernment.co.za/department_annual/513/2024-department-of-police-%28saps%29-annual-report.pdf The figures for Intimate partner murders I got from here: https://www.… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 26/11/25 10:47 AM
Is femicide an unfair term?I don't really have any stats on DV in SA, apart from those murdered by their partners. If I find anything I will post about it. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 26/11/25 09:51 AM
Is femicide an unfair term?I also urge you to search for Murray Strauss' metastudy of over 200 other studies from around the world showing parity between genders with regard to domestic violence. In terms of numbers, as well as severity of violence and the motives for violence. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 25/11/25 10:02 AM
Is femicide an unfair term?I got some South African stats for you: Total murders for the year ending 31 Mar 24 (From SAPS annual report) : 27,590 Female victims: 3,485 (12.63%) Child victims: 1,164 (4.22%) Male Victims: Not mentioned in the report, but we can calculate the balance there is 22,941 or 83.15%. And for intimate partner murders: from a reply to a question from the EFF in Parliament by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu were that between 2019 and 2024, 1736 females were killed by their partners while 1507 males were … | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 25/11/25 10:01 AM

What is the stance of this subreddit?Did you read the Mission in the Sidebar? It seems to put it across pretty well. I think most of us here would agree with that. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 30/10/25 01:12 PM
What is the stance of this subreddit?I can't be sure, but I think its a mixed bag. Some of us would identify as feminist, others as anti-feminist. I am an egalitarian and would hope most here are as well. I don't call myself a feminist or an anti-feminist. Just egalitarian. And left wing. (In the old fashioned socialist sense). | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 30/10/25 01:01 PM

Understanding where the people who are here are coming fromI stand corrected. Thanks. Maybe its just an age thing. I see left and right wing as something purely to do with economics and class as it always has been. Left = socialist, right = capitalist. To me liberal means economic liberalism / free market / right wing. To me both of the main parties in the US are on the right and the differences are cosmetic. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 06/03/25 01:23 PM
Understanding where the people who are here are coming fromThese are the American definitions of liberalism yes. I'm talking about how the rest of the world defines the word. How very American of you to think that everything works the way it works in America all over the world. That's usually because most Americans never leave the states. But they still argue with people about things they know nothing about. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 06/03/25 06:40 AM
Understanding where the people who are here are coming fromYou sound like an American. Liberal in the rest of the world means free market ie right wing. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 06/03/25 06:30 AM
Understanding where the people who are here are coming fromLiberal is right wing everywhere in the world except America. I don't understand what you mean if you include liberal in left wing. I'm not with them. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 06/03/25 06:25 AM

How do you guys tell people you're an MRA/male advocate?I don't. I probably wouldn't even call myself that. I consider myself an egalitarian so I care about rights for everyone. And that's what I'd call myself. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 04/12/24 06:34 AM

Newcomer here. Im not exactly sure what means "leftwing" in the name of the sub.I think a lot of confusion comes from the terms having changed their meaning over time. Left wing used to mean believing in public ownership of the means of production and distribution (factories, etc) as well as believing in public healthcare and other services. Right wing used to mean believing in private ownership of all of the above. It used to be purely economic. But then things changes and now the terms are related to a whole lot of other things that have nothing to do with economics. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 08/07/24 10:15 AM
What are some mens issues that people don't know about? This. Many studies show there is parity between the amount of domestic violence by men against women and by women against men. And the types of violence and abuse used are also the same in both directions. And yet there are almost zero shelters for abused men. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 07/07/24 05:30 AM

What is the best way to respond to misandry?I think the best thing to do is calmly and rationally call them out and tell them you consider what they said to be misandry. Without getting ugly. This is pretty hard to do and will for the most part not help at all. Most misandrists can't even see that what they are doing is wrong and will have plenty of ways to explain it to themselves. None of which will make sense to you as an egalitarian. But they are caught up in the propaganda and think they are on 'the right side'. Usually you just have… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 30/04/24 11:46 AM

lack of sexual violence warning in Beau is AfraidIn fact most articles about this sort of thing don't use the word rape. Men rape teenage girls. Woman have sex with teenage boys. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 24/04/23 02:07 PM
lack of sexual violence warning in Beau is AfraidLook at any discussion of a woman teacher raping a teenage boy. Half of the comments are all about how lucky the guy is and how they wished they could be him. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 24/04/23 02:06 PM
lack of sexual violence warning in Beau is AfraidIn some countries you can't. Because the definition of rape in those countries is to be penetrated. Being forced to penetrate is not included in the definition. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 24/04/23 02:05 PM

How does misandry hurt men in the same ways misogyny hurts women? It doesn't hurt men in the same ways. It hurts men in different ways. There are many things that disproportionately affect women. There are other things that disproportionately affect men. It doesn't matter that they aren't the same. And it's very subjective as to which is worse. It doesn't really matter. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 01/09/22 02:20 PM

How do you have discourse with someone who has adopted a mindset that their trauma is "high and mighty" above all others? Many men do need to learn how not to be violent. But that doesn't mean when one man is violent against another, that one of those men is not a victim. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 08/11/21 02:38 PM
How do you have discourse with someone who has adopted a mindset that their trauma is "high and mighty" above all others?Or another one which is fun to see the mental gymnastics is when people are talking about male on female violence / rape / sexual assault.. So do you agree then that men are trash? If yes, then so are trans men trash? If not then surely you don't think trans men are real men? Either trans men are men and ergo trash or you don't actually believe that trans men are real men. | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 08/11/21 09:54 AM
How do you have discourse with someone who has adopted a mindset that their trauma is "high and mighty" above all others?Or another one I like to go with is this one. Doesn't really work with sexual violence specifically, but if it is just male on female violence that they are talking about then I reckon its a good one. So do you agree that violence causes violence, that studies show that those who are victims of violence are more likely to be violent themselves? Abusers tend to have been abused themselves etc. And do you agree that men are the main victims of violence? Quote the appropriate stat from your country… | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 08/11/21 09:49 AM
How do you have discourse with someone who has adopted a mindset that their trauma is "high and mighty" above all others?Maybe find a stat that works the other way? So are you saying that we should only worry about the demographic that is most affected by a crime and ignore all other victims of that crime as they aren't as affected by it? If the answer is yes, then so by your logic we shouldn't worry about women getting murdered as those victims are mainly men. This usually cues some victim blaming. ie and who commits those crimes? Men! As if this means the argument is null. Men killing men cancels itself out. We … | /r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates | 08/11/21 09:40 AM
