I had a similar experience with being sexual assaulted in my sleep then accused of rape. I already suffered from mental illness but this made me afraid of sex, cops, any thoughts I would have of a happy relationship are gone. I was suicidal and became homeless. The effects are real and hard to deal with. What has been helping me is my service dog and getting out into nature by myself. I collect jade and other semi precious stones I find in nature.

It's not uncommon at all. There are thousands of false rape accuses every year just in California alone. The reason you rarely hear about it is that it is so scary a threat that most men are traumatized enough to never talk about it. They say Rape is accusation that 50% of people will believe with out any proof. Because of the emotion behind such a crime.
