Agreed. A good majority of things that feminism focuses on are (or were) real and actual problems. Where mainstream feminism falls short is that it focuses on highlighting or fixing these problems only for women. That might be a feature and not a bug (it is called feminism...), but where it is problematic is the idea that "feminism is for everybody" and therefore if mainstream feminism doesn't focus on it being a problem for men, it's not a problem.

Do you have some sources for the stats about men dying at a rate of 1.4 times the rate at women? Also the leading in 9/10 top causes of death stat. I'm having a hard time understanding what those actually mean. There is approximately 1.8% more women than men in the states, but that's a far cry from 1.4x. And does the 9/10 stat imply that women die of more diverse causes? I love your posts. Thank you for breaking down so much information into brief yet informative and unaggressive bits. It goes s…

Men are much more likely to be victims of violent crime "From other men!!!" Victims don't stop being people just because they are men. I'm a very non-violent person (as I believe most are). I've never been in a fight in my life. Are my family and friends not supposed to be sad if I'm killed in a violent attack just because it was by another man? Vast majority of homeless are men "Women set up their own shelters, this just proves that men refuse to help other men!" Like the men's homeless shelt…

This is kind of funny in a way. It's like the feminist idea that since I believe equality between men and women to be important that I must be a feminist. I mean, sure, by some weird and loose definition I guess, but it almost seems like the opposite of a "no true Scotsman" fallacy. Some titles carry a certain connotation or imply certain beliefs that you might not want to be tied to, so not wanting to be called an MRA is not the most unreasonable thing. Similar how I have no desire to being cal…

That's some pretty brazen stuff you're talking about there. Can I ask what kind of profession that is in?

Drive winter mountain roads and see that this isn't that uncommon. I'm a man, not invincible. Gonna be honest, never done this for safety. I get paranoid when driving. Some people lose their minds at anything they see as the tiniest slight. I've made lots of unnecessary turns to see I've I'm being followed. Walking back from college late at night in a sketchy area, I've booked it a few blocks with keys in hand. Probably unnecessarily, but you tell me that I'm not a prime mugging target. Never im…

Ahh. That makes sense. Thanks for clarifying!

I don't understand this. From a statistical point of view, how can men die 30% more often?

I would enjoy seeing a conversation about the reproductive rights and responsibilities of workers.

I used to feel this way too. And while I think you're right that men often have to put more effort into dating and being noticed, it doesn't mean that women have it easier. Having easier access to sex doesn't mean that they have better access to honest companionship. Women's struggles are different, but it doesn't necessarily mean their situation is easier. Give this thread a read with an open mind. https://www.reddit.com/r/dating/comments/f44ijz

I fear it's already gone that way.

Honestly, I misread your comment. I thought you were suggesting that being forcibly raped by a woman would be just unpleasant for anyone. But reading it again I see you're saying that's just how you'd react to it, and if that's genuinely how you'd see it, okay. I can't really fault that.

I'm so glad we could have an expert join us and tell us what everyone's experiences are. From the bottom of my heart, I hope your socks get wet.

Right. And that is a problem, you won't catch me saying otherwise. But it has nothing to do with home ownership.

I'll have to assume you're talking about the "Housing Discrimination" article on Wikipedia, otherwise I haven't any idea what you're talking about. Anyway, that really only speaks of the rental market. That itself is certainly a problem, but what's being discussed here is home ownership, not if a landlord is going to overlook your because of your sex.

This post has me conflicted. I think it's super important to point out that toxic behaviour exists in both genders, but I still think that calling out "toxic femininity" is as needless as "toxic masculinity" is. Remove the gender and it's just as valid without being unnecessarily divisive.

Agree whole heartedly. I've been a proponent (just like most of us here I'm sure) of not making toxic behaviour gendered. But if I'm to be intellectually consistent then positive behaviour can't be gendered either.

When I think of positive masculinity, I think of "If" by Rudyard Kipling. I realize many of the traits he describes aren't exclusive to masculinity, but I think it still fits many of the traits that I would call positive masculinity.
