In this case, it has a religious angle. The mother is a muslim and she seems to have wanted her son to undergo circumcision according to islamic faith.

As a guy, the only friendzone you can move out from is when it was you who friendzoned the girl.

To answer the last part, what I think about arranged marriages vs "love" marriages. A few years ago, when I was in an LTR, I believed that marrying for "love" was somehow superior and believed that we would have a "happily ever after".I was "blue-pilled" and had "one-itis" as the internet would say. That ended and we went out separate ways. Today I believe that marriage is an "institution" not a relationship and success depends on how that institution is run regardless of whether it was arranged…

There is no guarantee that if would work out, but in an arranged marriage, there are more stakeholders involved, so the success of the marriage is a combined effort of the husband, wife and their respective families. There is a good side and bad side to it. Good side is that there is a support system to fall back and resolve hiccups in your relationship. Bad side is that, the other stakeholders would also get involved in decisions within your marriage

Then probably the families would visit each other back and forth to understand the situation that each party is in. Once both parties are ok with each other, the parents would sit down to discuss the T&C and to set a date for the engagement/wedding. (Sometimes you have both…

Once a girl or a boy reaches marriageable age (this varies depending on the culture), the extended family would bring prospective alliances for the person from their circle. Some people would hire a match maker who would try to match this person with some of their other clients. You may also put advertisements in newspapers as well that person "X" is looking for a prospective bride/groom. These days there are websites and mobile apps that provide similar services

I am from India so I can give an overview. The practice and customs may vary from place to place but generally the process is the same. In arranged marriage, more than the compatibility of the individuals getting married, the compatibility of the families are tested. Which means that the bride and groom need to be from the same caste and social strata. I'm not married BTW.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
