Just because there have been a few instances of circumcision by unscrupulous people or whatever does not mean that circumcision should be banned; one could say the same of any procedure. It's not that I picked this one thing. It is part of Jewish religion and Jewish tradition (not to mention others equally significant). Americans have an inalienable right to practice religion (and to raise their own kids in their religion as they see fit). That is what the Constitution says. Jews and Muslims (an…

FGM is also central to cultural practices of tribes in Africa, yet our society does not allow these practices to be carried out on our soil. Do you believe that African immigrants are oppressed by not being allowed to practice their traditions? Perhaps they are, but FMG is not comparable to infant male circumcision and even if it was, a practice that is not part of an accepted culture in a given place is not necessarily going to get the same deference in practice. Please explain why someone exer…

Since circumcision is a central milestone in Jewish life with an important religious meaning as Jews practice their religion today and for thousands of years, for all intents and purposes it would be a ban on Jewish life and on Judaism. That there may be various things in the Bible that are not part of Judaism or other biblical religions as practiced today is irrelevant. Parents obviously do have the right to circumcise their sons in Western society. To millions of people, that's not an example …

As I said elsewhere in this thread, I take the (majority) view that FMG isn't comparable to male circumcision, and if hypothetically there was a non-harmful level of FMG, comparable to male circumcision, I would make things equal by unbanning that specific type of FMG, as opposed to banning circumcision.

Any ban on circumcision is a ban on Judaism. All parenting is full of encroachments on children's rights, for which their consent is irrelevant. Babies and children don't have the right, either legally or naturally, to make many decisions, if any, for themselves, nor should they.

Practically, circumcision bans are not happening in the foreseeable future in the US, period. My opinion is that since circumcision of males is an integral, not a peripheral, part of religious practice, laws banning it would violate religious freedom (and the First Amendment) about as much as any law can. In addition, I think that circumcision bans would represent an excessive intrusion by the state into family affairs, and in between parent and child. For the state to either ban religious pract…

Parents have the established right to make educational, medical, religious decisions etc. on behalf of their children. Circumcision is obviously an integral part of several major religions. Religious practice is always given a lot of leeway by courts. So yes, you are free to impose your religious beliefs on your children in the U.S. by circumcising them and I wouldn't expect that to change. One may not approve of it, but infant male circumcision is not the same as clitorectomy or amputation of a…

Any circumcision ban would be a clear 1st Amendment violation.

"When cops arrived they found McGuinness, who was charged with choking Dennis, lying on the floor, semi-conscious and bleeding, officials said."
