This is how you get in a domestic abuse situation. Think about it, he’s getting everything he wants and he’s going to isolate you further from your family.

Ohh, I didn't even consider confidentiality! Thanks for pointing that out. Everyone hire Chickenery to be your lawyer.

Conflict of interest rules are more complex than they seem on the surface. There's a number of them. In this case she knew this guy before she was a lawyer. She was not legally representing him when they were in a relationship. So she has no ethical duty toward him. If she had been his lawyer and not his girlfriend she would have an ethical duty to obtain his consent before representing his wife. Some conflicts are not waiveable. If you had to use any knowledge you obtained in the course of prev…

Hey, if it's not safe for you to drive, it's okay to not do it or to not want to do it. I think that's very different from other reasons for not driving. I also think that you have to temper your view of things a little bit. Some things do fall into a grey area between the black and white of high value and low value. I think you can afford to give yourself some grace to grow past your own limitations. Don't extend this to other people. I know that feels weird, but don't. Others (men in particula…

There's a lot of interesting reasons why people are not able to drive. One reason is that many states suspend driver's licenses for non-payment of child support. Another is too many violations like drunk driving, getting too many other tickets in a row, not having insurance and getting caught. If it's one of those reasons, I'd say you have someone without thier shit together. If they have a disability or something else that prevents them from physically driving, of they just came from a really s…

At the very least neglect. Think about being in the daughter's shoes. Your mom left the state and basically abdicated being a full-time parent for you for some guy?

Oh no! It sounds like he just really sucks and wanted to keep you as an emotional punching bag and put all of his good relationship energy into this other woman. Like this guy sounds like a real covert narcissistic abuser.

You didn’t “ruin” the relationship. WTF is a relationship if he’s like putting all of his emotional energy into someone else? He sounds like such a loser. He didn’t love you, he loved your living situation. That’s why he didn’t want to go “ruining” things.

See, when I read that’s he’s the ultimate “nice guy” I just hear “impression management.” It is not surprise that he’s a cheater because that’s what those people do. They present a perfect image to the outside world and under the surface it’s really, really dirty. I’d really recommend Tracy Schorn’s book and blog. Google Chumplady. Also celebrate a little bit in September when you’re finally free.

Exactly, she got him paid and he didn’t even appreciate her.

Meth. Don’t do it. It’s hard on your teeth.

Go to the Chumplady website. Also read Tracy Schorn’s Leave a Cheater Gain a Life. It’s very helpful for breaking away from a cheater. Your life will be better once you are away from all of this drama. He has you addicted to the abuse cycle. You can break this.

They have always known what they were doing.

I am also putting her on my prayer list. Along with almost every other woman who posts for relationship advice. “Dear God in Heaven, give them the strength to escape.”

One thing: this guy has a disordered personality and is a cheater. He’s trying to triangulate between you and the other girl. He want to be in the center of the triangle. If you want to tell the other girl get him to text you or otherwise put his bullshit in writing and send it to her anonymously. You have a good handle on the situation and you aren’t going to take him back. Straight up telling the new girl that he’s trying to get back with you plays into his hands somewhat. He might even be loo…

This behavior is called triangulation. It has nothing to do with what anyone actually did to anyone else. It has everything to do with a narcissist remaining the center of attention. What is actually happening is that the dude is lying constantly to his new girlfriend. He's both telling her that this woman was "so, so horrible" to him but also telling her that "she's the only person I ever really loved." He's trying to get two women to fight over him like a piece of meat. This woman is not havin…

Honestly, she's probably 22 and he's 48.

You're in a bad way. When you have a compulsion to do something like this: do something for yourself. You deserve it. Pretend this guy died. He's dead to you now.

And I'd buy her a beautiful engagement ring!

I’m glad that you’re in a good place! Sometimes we have to take inspiration where we can find it. I find Zelda very inspirational if also a cautionary tale; https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/books/2016/oct/29/zelda-fitgerald-scott-film-tv

1) Very excited to hear that you are making these positive changes in your life. 2) Honestly you are doing braver things with your romantic life than F. Scott Fitzgerald ever did. I say this as a person who loves his writing but he was a nightmare to Zelda. He probably plagiarized a lot of his good stuff from her and then put her in a mental hospital. 3) I’m glad he is a source of inspiration for you, but the man himself was trash.

Stay strong. He may be hot but he doesn’t deserve you.

That’s a guy who cares so much more about his own preferences than the best interests of his child. He’s so very selfish and I feel so badly for his child. She’s going to grow up with a raft of terrible emotional issues.
