That’s a seven year difference and like I said, I wouldn’t want to talk to an 18 year old anyway. Also, a lot of 18 year olds look like kids. But I’m talking about women in their early 20s, who often get lumped in with these “barely legal” teens even though they’re in a different phase of life. Gotta ask: If you’re an older man, do you think that women around 25 or 26 are really that mature? I think a lot of the time they’re indistinguishable from younger women both in personality and looks. Is it an adequate response?I’ll continue to dig, but it’s still clear to me that we mature more as we get older, even beyond the middle-aged years. Not only does the frontal lobe keep growing, but emotional intelligence and vocabulary generally don’t peak until a person is elderly. To me adulthood is not about being fully developed, since that’s hard to pinpoint and it takes too long of a time. Many mainstream publications say that it’s 25 or mid-20s, but I want the original source. Many of these studies stopped at 21 and people just speculated that it was somewhere around 25. The truth is that it’s the mid-40s at the earliest when the frontal lobe is finished developing, as far as scientists know right now. And like someone else mentioned, most of the development happens younger than 25. Many publications repeat this meme but at least one study has shown that it keeps growing until the mid-40s. Also, a person’s emotional intelligence and grasp of their native language doesn’t peak until the 70s. Not being fully developed does not make a person an incapable child, or an adolescent, or anything like that. Anyone over 21 is adult enough for me.
