Try splitting up from your friends, that way you won't be constantly tempted to fall back on the safety of your friend group. Extra bonus, the approach anxiety will likely be lessened when you know you're buddies aren't watching. Or up and go out alone, I like to call it working without a net, you force yourself to interact with people outside your buddy group.

You might also consider the number of National Review readers that would never think about reading an article in a tattoo magazine directed to Inked thanks to the link in the article. The clicks go both ways and could result in some very traditional right wing people coming away with a more rational view of tattooed people.
