Yes, it's a "sorta established" norm in the US. I used online dating in other countries (1st world) and I very rarely saw profiles talking about teeth, whereas the US seems obsessed about it. Maybe 4 out of 10 profiles say something like "I am looking for a partner with a nice smile" yeah right, I feel like they are looking for a toothbrush commercial model. Not criticizing, just observing. It's 100% cultural, just like height.

I understand what you are saying, but this is a matter of culture and opinion. In the US there seem to be a HUUUUGE focus on the teeth. It's like if you didn't "fix" them you are not worth dating even if just 1-2 is crooked. This would not be a problem in a lot of other countries. I was really surprised to see how much people really fixate on teeth in the US. I am not saying who's right or wrong - just that it is a cultural thing. So, where is the line ? Well, it's another social norm, like everyone "fixing" their teeth only for appearance reasons. It's the same. Tweaking bones to look better

I still find it sad that people dump relationships for mistakes like these. Did you do something stupid? Hell yeah. But was it worth it not giving you a second chance? People are SO unforgiving. No one is perfect. We all make mistakes.

I think it's survivorship bias. People giving these advice are the few for who it worked, but they forget that they look like adonis. The "_I_ found my partner doing nothing [because I look freaking awesome]" become "Everyone will find their partner doing nothing". Meh.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
