I (ironically for this sub) visited Kyoto on my honeymoon during the Jidai Matsuri festival. It was one of the best times in my life and I'll always remember that city very fondly. The food and the sites were just astonishing. I highly recommend anyone spending any time in Japan to make time for a visit.

And I suppose Christianity just magically appeared all over the globe and had nothing to do with the pope giving Spain and Portugal free license to torture, murder and exploit indigenous people however they pleased just as long as they allowed the priests along to convert the survivors. All religion is insidious and poisonous to the rational mind. The Abrahamic religions are all essentially the same when you look under the hood, and Islam is hardly alone in inspiring and justifying all manner of…

That describes my experience with marriage exactly. Minus the dowry, anyway. I thought I was getting a "partner". What I wound up with was a dependent with the emotional maturity of a teenager.

>> This isn't love. If he ever did take her back she'd be off again when she met someone she thought was better. But that's what they all do in the end, anyway. The instant they think they can "trade up", they're already planning their exit strategy. And writing a dissertation in their heads about how many times you screwed up and it's all your fault for not reading her mind, anyway (otherwise she might feel a twinge of guilt, and we can't have that). Only as loyal as their options, the hamste…

If it's a "date" before you've touched her lady bits, then yeah, pretty sure that's a strong sign she couldn't give a shit less. Take that as a strong hint to walk out the door and leave her with the check before she looks up and notices she's alone.

Groundskeeper Willie: It won't last. Brothers and sisters are natural enemies. Like Englishmen and Scots! Or Welshmen and Scots! Or Japanese and Scots! Or Scots and other Scots! Damn Scots! They ruined Scotland! Principal Skinner: You Scots sure are a contentious people. Groundskeeper Willie: You just made an enemy for life!

I dunno. My ex-wife is a "Vet Tech" and this sounds exactly like some of the shit she might pull. Maybe it's the scrubs.

When you can branch swing as quickly and easily as most of them can, all those "tingles" from new guy tend to drown out any regret or pain or introspection on their part as far as I can tell. I somehow think that the blow of my own surprise divorce might have been softened a little if I suddenly had access to an entire harem of willing women the instant I was no longer attached. Ever see the responses a female friend will get on social media when they update their "relationship status" to single…

My ex wife was one of these. She had really pale skin, and was always smearing sunblock all over herself (face, arms, anything exposed) any time she'd leave the house, regardless of the season. It constantly made a nasty mess of my car and anything she touched, but I can confirm she had the skin tone of a teenager in her mid-late thirties and looked much younger than she actually was. Beautiful skin, but dead and thoroughly awful inside. And now I can't smell sunblock without thinking about her.…

I used to work at the corporate headquarters for one of the largest real estate companies in the US. We had VIPs in all the time - people who had made millions upon millions, running offices, teams, etc. And most (nor all, but definitely most) of them were batshit insane and/or dumber than a box of rocks. I've met hundreds of "millionaires" in my time. And I can tell you with absolute certainty that the amount of money you make has nothing at all to do with your intelligence.

Certainly not that she's a violent sociopath with serious anger management and impulse control issues. And tits. Don't forget the tits. "I'm sorry, m'lud. Agreed. Or work as an independent contractor as opposed to through an agency. I've worked in IT for almost 20 years myself, and with those sorts of qualifications, there should be more than enough work to get you through. You may not get the benefits and such as a full-time employee (employer-subsidized health care, paid time off, etc), but the work is definitely out there, and none of the firms I've ever worked for did much if any background checks on these sorts of workers (either we contracte…

There's a part of me that still yearns for the connection that I now know doesn't exist. The kind of selfless unconditional love they talk about in movies, songs, etc. My life experience and intellect have taught me the hard way that these things aren't real. They're nothing but romantic idealism that just doesn't really exist in this world, at least not between men and women. One of my favorite quotes from Carl Sagan was "The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition…

You're exactly right. It's the same reaction she might give if he'd answered "I like turtles" and drooled on his shoes. She's belittling and shaming OP to his face, likely giving side-glances to her harpy friends to the tune of "wtf? loser! amiright???". This is massively disrespectful and a loud declaration that his opinion doesn't matter nor is as valid as anyone else's. Dollars to donuts that they're all talking about the encounter behind his back now, with the usual terms of "incel", "loser"…

And the presence of 7.4 billion other people on the planet would seem to contradict the notion that the birth is somehow a "miracle". I've never understood this veneration of motherhood as if it was somehow a massive accomplishment worthy of endless praise. Given the condition of this world, it seems massively self-centered and narcissistic, biology be damned. If you want a kid, go adopt and at least do some good.

A very good buddy of mine I used to work with exactly like this. He's 6'4" or so, incredible physique (played in a semi-pro soccer team at the time), and had the looks of a model. He was/is one of the most genuinely great guys I've ever known in my life and one of my best friends to this day, but holy shit was/is he a Chad. The ladies at work would swoon and shamelessly make excuses for him to stop by so they could flirt. Stuff that would get any man fired for harrassment on the spot, mind you. …

Christianity is no different. We used to burn people alive for witchcraft and heresy. Galileo nearly burned for daring to contradict doctrine. Colonialism and empires were responsible for multiple genocides, all under the pretense of spreading the word of God. All religions ( well, maybe with the exception of buddhism) make convenient excuses for dehumanizing other cultures and indulging our worst impulses.

I completely hear what you're saying, but let's think about this from the point of view of the typical married man. Telling your wife she has a gravity well that's bending spacetime around her is guaranteed to start a massive fight. She is NOT going to take the criticism constructively and reflect that maybe it's time to do something about it. She knows she's fat, but clearly she's a "victim". Of hormones or glands or any other bullshit excuse she can find except the fact that she's consuming fa…

Worked in IT for almost 20 years now, can confirm. MCSA/E are worthless for the most part. Far better to learn unix/linux and open source technologies if you want to get your career moving forward. "The Cloud" is the hot new trendy thing everyone is looking for these days (understandably so), and that's overwhelmingly based on OSS technologies. CCNA/CCNE are another matter entirely. That shit is HARD, but good network engineers can make some really good money. It also looks damn good on a resume…

Exactamundo. She will say and do anything it takes to close the deal, just like any good sales wonk. If the product is faulty or doesn't perform as advertised, what does she care? She already made the sale and made her commission. Let the engineers figure it out. Those papers means that she now has legal standing to forcibly remove your assets. What she says beforehand doesn't matter, what promises she made don't matter, and those wedding vows she ultimately says really mean jack shit. The insta…

From what I underatand, they actually discourage people with high intelligence from joining the force since they tend to burn out quicker. From my experience, the people they recruit are the bullies from high school (meaning people who should never have been given authority in the first place). Sure there are good ones, but it does take a certain frame of mind to do that job.

Agreed to a point, but I'd venture a guess that this chick wasn't shit-testing OP, but was rather attempting to manipulate him into doing whatever she needed from him at that moment. At no point was she looking to be pursued, but was rather looking to exploit. Every crazy bitch I fell for and wound up in orbit around in my younger days did this shit, and here I was crazy enough to think that being a good guy and going out of my way to "be there for them" would earn my way into their hearts. Sure, I guess it's technically sports, but the bar is set so low that it's impossible to take seriously. Kind of like the special olympics. The existence of a "W"NBA ought to be repellent to them if they were in any way consistent. Why do they need a special league of their own to play in if they're every bit as good as a man and can do anything a man can do? Isn't "you're pretty good for a girl" a huge misogynistic insult to them? Go play in the men's leagues if you want to call yourself an ath…

The "War on Drugs" is and always has been an utter failure. It's an excuse to lock up poor people and make the federal government (i.e., the taxpayer) pay for it via the for-profit private prison industry. Of all the things that should never ever ever be given a profit motive, this is hovering near the top as far as I'm concerned. Corporate welfare at its finest. Edit: Just so I'm clear, I don't care if it's a man, woman, or pink rhino: Locking up non-violent drug offenders and addicts with the …

This generation just won't realise it until ... This would require critical thought, the capacity for accountability and self-awareness. Not exactly their strongpoints. I would suspect once the party's all over, they'll hamster it into yet more victimhood and never once acknowledge or even recognize their part in it all. Clearly it was all the patriarchy's fault, or rape culture, or some other straw man they've yet to invent. The capacity of people to blame others and never acknowledge their rol…

Almost 20 for me now. And I just left a job like that - constantly overwhelmed, 24x7 on-call with no rotation or backup, management that couldn't give a shit less about the constant burnout and employee churn their bullshit caused. Left that for a new gig in July. No on call, no production duties, all dev ops building stuff all the time. Shit, we were both in our 30s and had been seeing each other for 4 years (2 years of that in cohabitation). I was so damn sure I had a unicorn, I put a ring on it, bought "us" a house (as in she didn't contribute a dime for the down payment, not a single mortgage payment, not a single bill, etc), the whole nine yards. How on earth is that possibly legal? The firefighters have to come out and risk their lives putting out that fire. If one of them had a burning wall collapse on them, either killing them or burning them to the point of permanent life-ruining disability, who is paying the price for this? Taxpayers? What if the fire spread to the neighbors' houses? How the fuck is this not criminal negligence? For fuck's sake, go to a cop bar or hang around the fire station if you want to slut it up in front of th…

No idea. I haven't spoken to her since the day of the divorce almost 2 years ago now. She had major PTSD issues stemming from childhood abuse, and actively avoided any sort of confrontation. The way she ended it was incredibly cowardly and hurtful, but I guess it shouldn't have come as a shock knowing how she is. I doubt I'll ever hear from her again unless I initiate contact, which I can't see my pride ever allowing me to do. She made it very clear that she wanted out and nothing further to do …

My NAWALT unicorn did all that. And she still left after 2 years of marriage because she didn't feel the tingles anymore and wanted to try being a lesbian for a while (at 36 years old, you'd think you'd know if you were gay or not, but maybe that's just me). "Set for life" doesn't matter to them. It's all about their feels in the moment. The instant those tingles disappear, you can bet your last dollar she's already prepping her branch-swing victim and plotting her exit.

"I could never understand ethnic or national pride. Because to me, pride should be reserved for something you achieve or attain on your own, not something that happens by accident of birth. Being Irish isn't a skill, it's a fucking genetic accident. You wouldn't say 'I'm proud to be 5'11". I'm proud to have a disposition for colon cancer.'
