| 1 | Deny the point of entryJonathan Turley- an American Jodie Ginsberg- a journalist Dorothy Bain- A British lawyer (so an actually valid authority) who argued for his case based on the disproportionate punishment. Fair, an actual legal argument, but not an argument that the Supreme Court ‘made up a law’. But also, she’s a lawyer, not the Advocate General (anymore) and so duty bound to defend her client as well as she can. I wouldn’t expect otherwise. However, a team of lawyers, equally (if not more) skilled, trained, and… | /r/PussyPassDenied | 03/03/21 12:07 AM |
| 1 | Deny the point of entrySources? There were no complaints at the time and googling “count dankula case legal issue” only gets coverage of his incompetent attempt at appeals. If there were actual legal issues with the case, then it would have been raised during the trial procedure or in the subsequent appeals. Instead, the only references to any issues I’ve been able to dig up are complaints from Carl Benjamin (Mark Meechan’s fellow failed UKIP candidate), and I’ll listen to him again after my lobotomy. | /r/PussyPassDenied | 02/03/21 11:08 PM |
| 1 | Deny the point of entryIt’s ok to admit there are things you don’t understand. Realising you’re an idiot is the first step to improvement. | /r/PussyPassDenied | 02/03/21 09:26 PM |
| 1 | Deny the point of entryYou really are just a clueless American aren’t you? In Britain, laws don’t just get “made”, they get reinterpreted by judges and upheld in court. That’s how it works. That case is not controversial to anyone in this country. The only people who question it are Nazi sympathisers or “concerned observers” who don’t understand how our legal system works. | /r/PussyPassDenied | 02/03/21 09:06 PM |
| -3 | Deny the point of entryI mean the proof is pretty obvious- he made a dog do a Hitler salute when he said “gas the Jews” and communicated that message over a public network (YouTube). That trial was perfectly in accordance with UK judicial process and, if you think it wasn’t, then you don’t actually understand how it works. The laws weren’t “made up”, they were introduce through judicial interpretation, which is how the system has worked for hundreds of years. | /r/PussyPassDenied | 02/03/21 11:10 AM |
| -1 | Deny the point of entryYou are aware of how the UK legal system works right? For hundreds of years, law has been upheld through court judgments informed by precedent. Failed-UKIP candidate Mark Meechan was tried under the 2003 Communications Act. Section 127, in force since 2003, makes it an offence to “send a message that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character over a public electronic communications network”. The law was revised in 2013 to include more specific attention to messages tha… | /r/PussyPassDenied | 02/03/21 09:43 AM |
| -2 | Justice is servedDo you spend much time in the Crown courts examining each case as they come through, or are these assumptions you’ve made based on media reporting? | /r/PussyPassDenied | 10/02/21 01:03 PM |
| 1 | Justice is servedThe Sexual Offences Act was passed in 2003- it’s not that old! | /r/PussyPassDenied | 10/02/21 01:01 PM |
