I'm not sure about best approach, I only found /r/seduction after I came home from backpacking, and only closed once while there, but everyone's personal space bubble is much smaller than you are probably used to. Also, I found the girls there much more open to people just walking up and talking to them, people are probably a bit friendlier there than in NYC. Note that: They might call you an Ang Mo. Never forget about the white girls. They are always pushed to the side and forgotten. Show them some attention and you will have them hooked. Japanese guys rarely go for foreign girls, and foreign guys are always looking for Asian girls, leaving the white girls out in the cold.

Dude, you can pull off ( in my opinion) one of the greatest cold approaches ever. Find a girl sitting at the bar, sit next to her, put your hand on hers, and say " What would your father think if we were dating?" Any girl with any sort of a rebellious streak will be all over that.
