Even county lock ups aren't walks in the park. Being incarcerated in the US is a world of pain, not a Nordic rehabilitative resort. Its pretty disgusting that men (and some women) are incarcerated for debt that cannot be discharged, which has late fees and interest which continue to stack up even when the debtor is imprisoned. Thats not necessarily true. Anyone can be arrested based solely on what a alleged victim says , but a conviction is much different . Thats were court comes in but it can get costly . Get a lawyer and sue for custody . Seek temporary orders and get geographical restrictions in place to prevent her from moving off with your child. OP, your story is exactly whats wrong with this country. No man or woman should EVER go to jail for a debt . You have a duty to support your offspring, but it doesn't benefit you or your child to be locked up and to fall further behind in child support debt while you're in jail . I would say petition the court to get a stay on child support, but as many here already know, that often costs money and a lot of judges deny such requests anyways.
