Appreciate you writing that out! It makes sense. I am usually too forgiving of small insecurities and don’t necessarily ~see~ the larger pattern until it’s too late.

Can you give examples of the “no” cues?

Any ideas?

What are some early signs and behaviours one can clock that distinguish extreme insecurity from the regular kind?

Can you drop some links where I could find this?

Just because OP’s question was directed toward men that doesn’t preclude any further conversation about the responses. There are lots of interesting ones happening here. If I made a top level response, your reply would at least be relevant. Not to mention, “debate” is in the name of the sub. If you’re incapable of handling that part of the conversation, perhaps this isn’t the right place for you. It’s easy to scream your poorly pondered point into the void and then get offended and stubborn when…

And did you even try to understand my point?

I can handle hearing it but I am allowed to disagree, point our flawed logic, etc. I understand it perfectly, but again, handle doesn’t mean accept.

Yep, I get that it’s different material. The point I’m making is that intelligence and insight exist in both kinds of conversations, yet you assign it more to abstraction than depth/personal/general topics. Society has very specific ideas of what constitutes “real intelligence,” which is what you’re using as a guide, and why people discount the brainpower of blue collar workers vs white collar, for example. Yet both kinds of people can excel in intelligence, just different kinds of it aimed in d…

But that’s dishonest. It’s not that the woman can’t handle the truth, she usually can and will deal with it by leaving. Handle doesn’t mean accept. I think men assume women should stick around even if they share a heinous or seriously incompatible “truth,” but they are not owed women’s attention, presence or acceptance.

Hmm I see. But then it means the chats are smarter yet not smart enough to counteract point 8. So is it that you devalue/undervalue sharp insight and intelligence when it’s applied to “grounded” topics, or less abstract topics? Like, if you think the topic is mundane then so too are any serious considerations of that topic? Lastly, you said first that conversations with men were more interesting but later that those with women are. So I’ll venture to say there’s a mental block you’re coming up a…

Interesting list. 9 doesn’t have consistent internal logic. How can the relationship be equal if you need to maintain an advantage and feel more powerful? And what do you dislike or like so much less about male company?

The men are being exploited by the military not by women. So a woman sleeping with a man in the military is not at all the same thing, not to mention she is not purchasing sex. It’s a ludicrous comparison and has no logical foothold whatsoever. You just want to shoehorn in that men can be exploited —which is true—to take away from the focus and gravity of female exploitation by men for sex. They’re not remotely the same thing beyond a very basic idea of exploitation for physical labour, they are…

What do you mean actively cutting themselves off from knowledge? My examples? Sneaky men are sneaky and secretive — it’s not the woman’s fault.

It’s not necessarily insecurity in themselves. The same way autistic people prefer clear and direct communication, some people need that with regard to feelings and feelings toward them.

In the context of that example, it’s definitely “using her body” since she’s being objectified and misled/manipulated. Under honest conditions she would most likely not agree to have sex with that man. Women, and people in general, can want sex only under certain conditions.

This ignores the number of older men with more old fashioned ideas, like those who don’t believe in spousal rape for example, who would probably have answered yes.

This is horrific. Actual nightmare fuel. I wonder if this was a big influence on the movie Blink Twice.
