I think its fine if you are seeing her in person in between the messages and have an actual reason for the messages you are sending (following up on irl conversation/ setting up future plans). If you force pickup lines or go for the direct approach you are more likely to get stronger responses, but this includes the strong bad ones with the good ones too..
