Abstract: Gender gaps in earnings exist in high-skill industries despite male and female workers having similar educational backgrounds. This column uses evidence from the legal industry to assess how performance affects career outcomes across genders. Performance gaps, defined by hours billed and new revenue raised, explain a substantial share of the gender gaps in earnings, as women’s working hours are affected by having young children while those of men are not. An important implication is th…

Nothing. This electoral season she behaves as if men don't exist. Her entire campaign is centered around women. If she doesn't do it during the electoral season (when it's the prime time to court voters), she will do even less once in office.

Was in a comment. Don't know if it's true or not but an important point. By the way if you look at HeForShe's financial records for 2015 you will find that not a single dollar or pound went to any organisations that supports or aides men/boys. So her speech at the UN was all a lie.

Does anyone know about this study? No national statistics are kept on the number of false accusations students make against their teachers, but specialists have said the evolving culture of the classroom has caused the number of reports of abusive teachers to increase in the past 15 years. A study in Britain found that 1,782 allegations of abuse by teachers resulted in 96 prosecutions.

Karen commented in comments: First, this incident shouldn't be described as a "fight" or "brawl", any more than some random person being jumped and beaten up while walking down the street counts as a "brawl". This was an attack, full stop. Completely one-sided from what I could see. She should be suspended or expelled, and prosecuted for assault. As for the principal's "lesson to take away", what a steaming pile. It's entirely possible that the guy said something atrocious on social media--socia…

It's terrifying. They literally want to change the Justice system and treat sexual assault cases differently from other criminal cases. The terrifying part is the jail for those convicted will not be any different. EDIT: I didn't notice there was more. They basically call for preponderance of evidence standard in the rape cases. Just like what they have in colleges. While an alternate court would likely be an improvement, Butt said he believes the situation calls for more drastic change -- one t…

Avoid sex with girls who are either crazy or have reasons to hide having sex with you. For example, if she has a boyfriend or from a very religious family or something similar. And avoid crazy is self-explanatory. Some people also recommend to exchange friendly texts after the sex. Though it would only matter if the s--t hits the fan. And if it does then it won't matter anyway.

It's very commendable. For some reason I got disappointed when, predictably, it was about man-on-man rape case. Not woman-on-man, which the real taboo one. I still don't know whether it's wrong of me or not to be disappointed about it. Because it is very important topic, but then I feel like it will end up to be a fuel for "patriarchy hurts men too" and "men are very violent" camp, while male victims of rape will be ignored as always. Being libertarian doesn't mean you have to be a feminist. Just like believing in gender equality doesn't mean you have to be a feminist. Stay label-less. Once you assume a label it automatically makes you responsible for everything that was done and said under this label. And by everything, I mean extreme crazy s--t. Because that's the only things that people would remember. On top of that labels such as feminism or Libertarianism are now just umbrella terms that encompass many sub-movement. And…

I think point 2 is very important point. When having public discussion you don't do it for your opponent but also for people who might later read it. If your opponent is a feminist, it's unlikely you'll be able to persuade her. But then if someone on the fence, or open-minded, later reads it, this person might change his mind. That's why I agree with mods: troll or no troll, if the question is important, it's better give a meaningful answer.

The paper is quite unpolished yet, if you look at it. 1) Her data comes from CVs and self-reported surveys only. Based on CVs she actually cannot determine when the person received tenure (?!) so instead she's using the description on the university website. To determine whether someone received tenure, I follow the guidelines on each school’s website as to when tenure decisions are made. That's a bit of a loaded question. Like: did you stop beating your kids? Or Is your brother still in jail? It kinda puts you on the defensive if you are to answer it. Instead of asking loaded questions, look for yourself in the topics that are posted on this thread. The question of race is not awfully common. That's because men, regardless of their race, have to deal with biased family court; men, regardless their race, do not have reproductive rights; can be circumcised in infancy; can be draft…

The story is not bad as the title makes it sound. Initially, it was the woman who claimed that the men unprovoked-ly assaulted her, punched her, made her lose five teeth, etc. So he got charged with the assault. Then the police started investigated, found CCTV and learned that (I quote) "her story is wrong". She already pleaded guilty. So it seems like the story goes towards the just end. My understanding is that women didn't vote in the US because in the US voting was tied to draft. Which, according to Karen, was confirmed by SCOTUS in 1917. What was her view on draft? If she wanted responsibilities that came with voting such as draft then I applaud her. If she was like Emmeline Pankhurst then she is more like one of those feminists (aka hypocrites) who were opposing the Equal Right's Amendment because they were afraid to lose all the goodies that society bestows on women. I hope it won't sound too unpopular but that's why punishment for false accusations should be minimal. Otherwise, the woman would never take back her testimony and then man would rot in jail. If anything the conviction should become less likely if the only evidence is accuser's testimony. Testimonies are notoriously unreliable even when witnesses/victims are trying to be sincere. Also interesting touch: In 1985 Crowell co-wrote a book about the incident called "Forgive Me" and gave Dotson more t…

Remarkably the government's response was very sane and egalitarian (see below). However, once the petition gets 100K, it will go to the parliament, which might be completely different story. The policy decision to increase women’s State Pension age is designed to remove the inequality [bold mine] between men and women. Fuck, Guardian: https://archive.is/HoM9v I didn't read the article yet, but I can bet the Guardian will blame the poll results on young, white men. Not on feminism, or itself. EDIT: I was right. They made it all about the victimhood of women and ethnic minorities. In fact, when the details of the YouGov poll are examined, a much more complicated picture emerges, and there is ample evidence for the power of racism.

The analysis of this year’s intake also shows that the white ethnic group was the one least likely to enter university, with only 28 per cent obtaining places compared with 58 per cent for Chinese, 41 per cent for Asians, 37 per cent for black students and 32 per cent of those from a mixed race. One can, and many do, argue that the world has been a man's world for a very long time now, and now that women are making inroads to male spaces (business, government, military, etc.), these are newsworthy, and explain the greater attention to "female" stories than "male". It hasn't been man's world. Never. It has been elite's world, throughout the entire history. Because, technically, it's the child's interests that trump everything, and the judge is needed to verify that child's interest are taken care of (yes, it's moronic). Plus, states have financial interests in having court ordering child support payments.

Are you sure about it? States get money from the government on collected child supports. Many (no clue about NJ) don't even allow direct payments from the father to the mother and insists on money going through them. Exactly because of this matching program. Even if it's no contest, it's only about granting divorce and property. Children is different matter, as far as I understand it. But I'm not a lawyer, which is why I ask whether you are sure. I think people looking for roommates can "discriminate". Landlords can't. I agree that you would never see "no blacks" or "no gays" or "whites only" and you constantly see "females only pls". But it's legal. EDIT: Jeeez, I just read that whole. The ad is a posterchild on feminists' insanity. I don't think why she even had to put "no men". Bars and clubs have argued that Ladies’ Nights are meant to compensate women for the fact that they generally earn less than men, but the Ombud said this was not relevant. 1) Great Ombud; 2) I call BS on bars and clubs. That's not about who being paid what. They want to attract men by using young women. That's what they are doing and have always been doing, and if they had payment concerns they could offer discounts to those who earn less (e.g. student discounts). But they don't! Because the mor…

However, it is acceptable to work on men's issues within gender studies (aka feminism): toxic masculinity, how the patriarchy hurts men, the role of masculinity in the modern society etc. Apply and sound like you are a feminist but…

This is not quite correct. 75% of women support maternity leave (vs 63% men) and 56% of women support paternity leave (vs 42% of men). I believe Jane Powell (https://www.thecalmzone.net/about-calm/meet-the-team/) is a feminist. See, eg: https://www.thecalmzone.net/2011/04/a-call-to-feminists/ So I'm being skeptical here. It's good they raise awareness, but if they end up blaming men and toxic masculinity it can contribute to the problem. But may be it's good for [some] feminists to start fighting for men's issues. We'll see.

That assumes binary roles which is transphobic. Someone should try this line of complaints. They will dismiss men complaining unless someone has enough resources to get a lawyer and credibly threaten legal response. The word transphobic should be scary enough without lawyers. No, I'm not happy that things are this way.

Why is anything prevalent in politics? I don't know. It brings votes. Why tackle real issues, when it's much easier fighting imaginary ones? Plus feminism IS a multi-billion dollar industry. The report contracted by the department of Labor: http://www.consad.com/content/reports/Gender%20Wage%20Gap%20Final%20Report.pdf Foreword (pages 1 and 2) nicely summarizes it. Statistical analysis th at includes those variables has produced results that collectively account for between 65.1 and 76.4 percent of a raw gender wage gap of 20.4 percent, and thereby leave an adjusted gender wage…

The most voted comment is: Sounds to me like these kids are being brainwashed by the grandparents. They need to be told the whole story, which to me sounds like self defense against an abusive man with a history of dependence issues. Sure, she was no angel either, it seems. But these people are alienating the kids from their mother with their biased views of the situation. That's not fair to the kids. Fucking fuck! You get stabbed yet you still fucking guilty. Media could not care less at best, or doing it intentionally at worst. I think it's the latter. A couple of weeks ago there was a post here by a HuffPo journo who called Roosh an MRA in her article. She then came here to explain what she meant by it, and why she did it. My point is it's not that hard to figure out the difference, and those in media who want can easily do it. to figure out

I like how in the show they talk that race should not included but are fine with sex. In Pennsylvania specifically, they'd be looking at sex and age and prior criminal history and, in some cases, whether the person lives in an urban or rural setting. And in the next paragraph: And that is a real question here because it seems like it would risk baking in current racial disparities in the justice system. Somehow people got hung up on the example of cervical cancer. But that's not the only example from her article. Based on data from 2006 to 2010, about 33,200 HPV-associated cancers occur in the United States each year: about 20,600 among females, and about 12,600 among males. Cervical cancer is the most common HPV-associated cancer among women, and oropharyngeal cancers (cancers of the back of the throat, including the base of the tongue and tonsils) are the most common among men. The thing about history is that historically lots of shit happened. Thousands of years, different climates, different religions, different economic relationships, different everything. One could probably find a historic example of everything. Frankly to me, the statement "women were favored throughout the history" is as ridiculous as "women were oppressed throughout the history". The article is amazingly neutral. Also, if I may, I wonder how women are exactly ‘favoured’ throughout history. Because to me, it seems like the history books call for the exact opposite. I think feminists themselves don't know what feminism is. I say let's come up with a new term for alimony that makes the recipient feel less like a charity case and more like a free agent paying her/his bills with returns from wise and hard earned investment. The OP is right. She resents the term, not free money. Though I agree with one thing: sitting at home for 20 years and living off of her husband is wise investment. For her. For him it was nothing but an awful gamble with awful odds.

As per a report carried by Mid-Day, her husband Tarun alleged that Rakhi had beaten their son to death after he insisted on meeting his father. Tarun currently resides in Nagpur, and on learning of his son's death, he rushed to Pune. Really? Killing your son is better than letting him to meet the father? This woman is mental.

I think it's very good to have people from other boards and with other views to post here. Welcome! To the point: This post confirms why I object even the most sincere and well-intent version of "feminism helps men too", and why we need separate from feminism movement. Boys don't have to be like girls, and really would be better of without girls' help in becoming "more like girls". Please! Also to say (ok to imply) that boys and men don't show emotions is stupid. I'm a little bit late to the party but: To make a difference you need to donate to politicians. If you are in the US, a maximum allowed donation to your party of choice or to your state representative/senator of choice will give you enough attention from them and their office. And the maximum allowed individual donation is 2500$ if I remember correctly. PS I assumed you can afford to do that given your question. Surely 2500$ is substantial amount. Just imho politicians is the way to go. Ok or jo…

My sympathy. I'll upvote hoping it would get more attention. Also, check this out: http://www.probono.net/nc/ They have some links to nonprofit law firms that provide pro bono (aka free) basic legal services to low-income people. For example: http://www.legalaidnc.org/public/learn/about/ (their offices locations are: http://www.legalaidnc.org/public/learn/offices/default.aspx). I have mixed feelings. On, one hand, you can't fight all the battles and help everyone. Distributing hygiene products to homeless women is noble activity. On the other hand, when the same BBC talks about, say, a man victim of DV they will never fail to mention their mantra that most of the time it's women who are DV victims. So I guess, I applaud to the people doing the Homeless Period project, but dislike BBC's double standards.

This is so reasonable, it's amazing. First, encourage alleged victims to go to police. Reasonable? Yes! Second, request colleges to take non-punitive actions such as psychological/medical/logistical support to the alleged victim. THAT colleges can do. Third, no punitive actions against alleged perpetrator until it is reported to legal authorities.

Tell them to stop making things up. I didn't notice alimony going away or shared parenting coming, just because "men want it". Not to mention that I cannot imagine a single issue where all men would want X and all women would want Y. The division is usually based on political views, not gender. Let me politely disagree. First, as far as that particular campaign goes it's not secondary. "[Examples of] Abuses towards 18 + male demographic" is in bold. Similarly: So we should contact the advertisers of SB-Nation to show them how they are excluding other men (such as ourselves/others) in their demographic - they exclude other men as we want to support SB-Nation but do not want to support Vox's other properties, which demonize young males, thus we urge advertisers to re-consider whether the…

The primary focus of that study is not on how many men are rapists (b/c everybody knows that all of them are rapists in waiting) but whether rapists are serial offenders. 1 in 10 is a side product of their study. The biggest problem I see is in how they identify the rape. They use a survey which a) is very noisy way of collecting data; and b) the survey they use is the Mary Coss' Sexual Experiences Survey that according to Mary Coss is great! How about: Start with 1) DV against women is very important and rightly so. 2) Lots of progress but still a long way to go; 3) at the same time one overlooked population who also suffers from DV is men; 4) regardless of how more or less common it is (this is how you avoid any confrontation) let's talk about experiences of men who suffer from DV; 5) Then go for D. Hines slides or her paper that showed male victims are as likely to be arrested as helped.

a) A lack of subtlety: is that a thing for all Bushes? I mean isn't the problem a bit more nuanced to go for let's shame all men? b) Removing all the responsibility for women and putting it all on men is cowardice. He knows that assigning any responsibility to women is no-no these days and does not dare to challenge that. He also knows he can go away with shaming all men and does it. So we have feminist Clinton versus coward Bush. Fucking great!

It just amazed me how feminist can turn into victims so easily. Not feminist - all women. I don't mean to disparage women with this correction, just I think that's how we, as human beings, are hardwired.

I would like to clarify that the reason feminists are pushing for paternity leave is NOT because they care about fathers or men. They want to bring down men in eyes of their employers. If men are as likely to take leave due to having a kid, it makes female employees less disadvantaged compared to male employees. Feminism is never about helping men. Here from Economist on paternity leave in Sweden: One of the most powerful arguments in favour of splitting parental leave more equally is that it ha…

The reason I posted it (and why I see it is related to men's rights) is that people like to talk about how many women are killed by their spouses because of domestic violence. Probably it is true that women are less likely to kill husbands themselves. It's Charlie's job (if you watch "It's always sunny in Philadelphia") and should be done by man. So the husband/bf gets killed/beaten up by some other man and it never enters DV statistics. Just like UVaHoax or Mattress Girl never enter false rape …

As we know, the feminist movement wasn't always like this, and great wonderful things like woman's suffrage (right to vote) have occurred due to this. Feminist movement was always like that, as pointed out by /u/Demonspawn. 1) Rights to vote: you can't say that without feminism women would not be able to vote. Women earn 60% of all degrees, so it makes sense that they'd earn more. I don't think so. At most it would make sense if 60% of all employees were women. It has nothing to do with earnings. Especially given different choices that men and women make regarding their fields of studies.

These articles are really silly. People are getting married later, so comparing 18-30yo demographics in 1980 and 2012 will tell you nothing but that people are getting married later. It does not mean that marriage is on decline, esp given that people live longer. This decline in marriage is the last thing a fragile economy needs. Isn't it better to have separate households because two separate people spend and consume more than a married couple. A decline in marriage should be good for economy.

That's a fair point, I see. Perhaps this is why presumptive shared custody could be good. The outcome of negotiation depends on what happens when the parties don't agree. If, in the case of disagreement, a parent is very likely to get a custody then why bother looking for a compromise. Unless, a parent has child's interest in mind, that is.

The title is a bit of a clickbait but the article itself has nothing to do with MRAs. It's just biology and an interesting experiment. I never thought about it before but it's interesting question. Given scarcity of resources and that both male and female of species compete for the same food and the same places to live, it seems like a waste to have two genders. Apart from somewhat obnoxious beginning, the article described a rather interesting experiment.

Why judges got into the business of deciding who is a proper parent to begin with? They are people who perform the task without getting any feedback on whether they are doing good job or not. Even politicians get more feedback than judges. So everytime it's just their biases speaking. Justice? Common sense? Nuh.

The most comprehensive study to date, led by Marianne Bertrand of the University of Chicago, shows that at least in the short term, they’ve had little effect beyond the obvious: placing more women on boards. Not getting married is like pro-lifers telling women "don't have sex if you don't want to have an abortion". As for getting divorced. That's unrealistic. Everything is fine in the marriage except that woman quits her job, or gets fired and doesn't look for another. That's not a reason for divorce. Five years later, on the other hand, it might bite the husband in the behind. My point is that given financial burden of alimony and prison-happy system, it is not a small matter and it's better if the…

OMG, I just heard not all suffragettes were like that, lol. May be, but quite a few most prominent suffragettes were racist. Susan Anthony, Rebecca Felton, Anna Shaw. It's like with feminists. Not all are crazy man-haters, but it's the prominent ones that matter. In the US conscription started in 1792, I believe. And there were many wars that US had between 1792 and the end of the 19th century. That included the Civil war. In the UK, the conscription was more WWI, and it was suffragettes, eg. Ch…

You shouldn't have been downvoted for that. But anyway, it's not a minor thing. It seems like it is but it's a reflection of a very major thing. It's the same old male disposability and the assumption that men can and should be inconvenienced for the sake of women. In the US the reason that only white men could vote at first was because only white men were drafted. After the Civil Was black men were drafted too and gained a vote. And then suffragettes happened, who were afraid that if black men can vote they will rape white women (no I'm not making this up). And don't forget most people never had a chance to vote. Most men who were sent to die in trenches of WWI couldn't vote.

I am not going to defend marriage. Currently it's a shitty deal for men. But there are benefits. One that comes to mind is health benefits. For example, wives are more likely to notice that sth is wrong with the husband's health and send him to a doctor. Especially, (if I remember correctly, not a doctor) some heart conditions can manifest itself in lack of erection. Anyhow, they should make divorce as simple as possible and not about money/property. That's all it takes to fix the marriage.

It's very valid point. It's hard to think of a single game where most of characters that you kill, or at least 50%, are ``female'' characters. It would be good to have a source but based on my gaming experience, this is true. I remember killing some women who turned into zombies in The Last of Us; in some games bosses can be women. War: there is no reason to think that female leaders do not engage in wars. Margaret Thatcher, Indira Ghandi, Ekaterina the Great, Queen Victoria, Golda Meir and so on. Frankly, until the 21st century if you were a good leader you'd have to be ready to start a war. Whether you a King or a Queen.

The second one is easy. Usu the numbers are on annual basis and per capita. So it doesn't matter that women live longer and, therefore, get more government money for health expenditures. http://www.cms.gov/Research-Statistics-Data-and-Systems/Statistics-Trends-and-Reports/NationalHealthExpendData/downloads/2004GenderandAgeHighlights.pdf EDIT: Link for 2010 http://www.cms.gov/Research-Statistics-Data-and-Systems/Statistics-Trends-and-Reports/NationalHealthExpendData/Downloads/2010AgeandGenderHigh…

Not supporting Clinton is as sexist, as supporting her is racist.

It's sad that the video has almost as many dislikes as likes. I added my like to it.

Well, let me know if you need help. I'm no good in programming but I am good at googling and reading research. And I keep links with what I find.

I think it's a great idea. I often see here people saying I had a discussion in a bar with feminists and could not remember something, and IRL googling things on iPhone is not an option either. As for political activism (like looking up your representatives, etc) is even better. I think it's about time to start affecting things offline.

No, we can't stop blaming feminism. The bar on the right is to explain why. Being abused weirds you up. But male rape is NOT what's being blamed on feminism. It is ignoring it which is blamed on feminism. Patriarchy means men are there to exercise their power and control. Women are there to be oppressed. There is no room for men being raped whether it's by an "older male" or a "female" one is "romantically involved with".

There are some studies. Like "http://amj.aom.org/content/56/6/1545.abstract". The study mentioned here http://www.thecollegefix.com/post/20375/ refuted the idea (well, one particular proof of it) that diversity trumps ability.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
