I support individualized curriculum, though it is still practically a near impossibility large scale. I'd quibble that saying kids should only be taught what interests them is a bit short sighted. Kids aren't born with interests, we as educators shape those interests. As such, it is to everyone's benefit to expose children to a wide variety of subjects and encourage their engagement in all of them. For what it's worth, Common Core and the system of reinforcer used to increase the desired academic behaviors are not mutually exclusive. Common Core is just a list of what kids should lean in school. Figured I'd comment rather than down vote like a savage.

What the caption describes isn't competition. It is an interdependent group contingency with some awesome terminal reinforcers. I'm skeptical that little girls would respond any differently, so long as the proper reinforcer was identified as an alternative to TMNT. Cool though.
