If it is one thing she’s gaslit me into believing, it’s that I am emotionally abusive. Which is a term that, when you really try to examine it, has such a broad meaning that it can be applied to almost any situation.

You sound like you’re in a good place given the absolute nightmare you’re dealing with. Try to stay positive. When you have the kids, be the best dad you can be. When you don’t have them, use any free time you have to better yourself in some small way. Read, walk, whatever. Stay sharp, stay strong. You’re in a much better position than most of us, king. Use that momentum to push forward.

Holy shit. Are you me from the future? Hope you’re hanging in there somehow, brother. You have nothing to think twice about if you let out a cry whenever you need to. It helps. If you want to share more specifics, e.g. how long you’ve been married, how many kids, how long it’s been rough, you can. We’re all here supporting each other. This is a safe space.

Don’t be sorry, I appreciate your comment. I have, as I’ve mentioned here, considered that the blame is probably on me to some degree for just dutifully picking up the slack. I accept that. What that said, holy shit what a wild take. My kids are young, can’t prepare their own food, and require adult intervention to receive nourishment, to bathe, brush teeth, get the proper amount of rest, etc. So yeah I guess I have duties as a father, and I’m not willing to shirk those duties. If that makes me …

They’re young. Both pre-k. We have zero help in the way of childcare outside of daytime M-F. Work schedule is rigid. Honestly I think I’d love an escort. Not sure how to find one.

Yeah I mean I guess you’d win that bet. It was probably super gradual, but I didn’t notice for a long time because prior to having kids I didn’t really need help with basic shit. It wasn’t a big deal. Dishes and laundry for two people? That’s a joke. I had all the time in the world to do everything around the house, spend time with her, and do things for myself. Maybe it’s on me for not noticing sooner, I don’t know. But after I suddenly didn’t have as much time in a day, that’s when I started t…

Thank you for this. I’ve read it a few times and it’s very informative and helpful. I just may start working through the steps you’ve outlined here. Kind of off topic, but a question for the group: Hypothetically. Clean break, best possible solution, everyone’s happy, no issues. When you get to the other side.. are there women out there that are fun to be around, that enjoy fucking, and will happily do their share of household tasks? Do they exist? I know which sub I’m on, but I’m wondering if a…

+1 on the last bit there, that’s exactly it. Nothing I do prompts change, so all that remains is for me to just take it.

Kids, man. If not for the kids I would have been out years ago.

I can’t get over how fast and loose they throw around the anger accusation. As I said in the post, she said it so much I was seriously starting to believe her. I ended up not really meshing well with the therapist I went with, but before I stopped going she was able to help me understand that my wife’s anger accusations is her way of deflecting and avoiding responsibility. It’s been a while and I could be slightly off, but I think that’s pretty close. That was about three years ago now, so while…

Not to mention trying to get some sex

I sure feel like a single dad. And then I’ll see these brief moments where the kids laugh and hug her and tell her they love her and everything is perfect for a minute. I may be putting that shit on a pedestal and I don’t know how to take the next necessary step.

It is. The bathroom has a strong sushi smell for a while after she uses it. Not trying to be funny.

She does. I’m thankful for it, because I have a strong suspicion that without the structure of having responsibilities outside of the house she’d be a lot worse.

I think you’re right, but any attempt at urging her to self reflect gets me an ear full about my “man-splaining”, my anger issues, and my own extremely urgent need for more therapy.

Holy shit. Thank you for sharing that. It sounds very familiar. It seems like every week she has some work obligation or dinner with a friend that keeps her from being home for dinner/bath/bed. I think I may have gone out with friends 2 or 3 times since our second was born, and every time I don’t leave the house until they’re both asleep. How is cheating? I’m very tempted. I have needs, naturally- but I don’t want to hurt my wife or kids, I don’t want to sneak around, and I really don’t have the…

My ask, as silly as it sounds, would be “get up and contribute” How do I start in planning an exit? Is there anything I should do? Is there anything I should know that you wish you knew sooner?

Tried talking to her. With a very sensitive approach. With a no more bullshit approach. Everything in between. She is unresponsive to me talking to her. I’m always the bad guy that needs to get myself together.

Absolutely correct. A sink full of dishes might as well be invisible to her. Baskets of clean, dried, and folded laundry sit in our bedroom untouched until I empty them (because I need the basket to haul dirty shit to the machine) and place her clean clothes on top of her pillow.
