I don't deal in stereotypes, they are a load of rubbish. They are people believing what they want to believe, confirmation-bias bullshit. I don't think it trivialises rape, it just includes the more recent acknowledgement in the West that rape can occur within marriages/relationships. Rape by partners is an enormous betrayal of trust, and that is the thing that shouldn't be trivialised. You can still define that as rape (since it's non-consensual sex) while acknowledging that some rapes will be more violent and traumatic than others.
