Because the guy can handle himself is the best reason. The real reason maybe blatant sexism ingrained in society. I think you could put this situation anywhere on the planet and the same result. What I do know is the best course of action in any confrontation is to run away. Chances are you'll regret fighting back as much as you'll regret not fighting back. You will look like a cunt either way. Running away, you look a cunt but for a shorter time.

Devils advocate or whatever you call it. This guy was getting flipped around, slapped and his hair pulled. He had enough and turned and pretty much started doing the same thing, straight off the cuff. The guys moved in and stopped it.
