Give the father his bias. He's decided his son is perfect in his eyes. His son is not typical, but he's no more or less 'perfect' than any other kid. Different issues, and a different life ahead of him, but there are no 'perfect' children anywhere, except in the eyes of their parents.

This. The counselor is the best, most important thing you can do to show that your apology is a statement about yourself, and not about him or your relationship. This is the right thing to do.

I really appreciate what you've written. I'm sorry that this morning went the way that it did. One of the things (and I'm sorry if this has been said a billion times already) that you could consider is talking to a counselor, either by yourself or with your boyfriend, to really understand where the anger came from and put together a better plan to cope with it in future. Not because there's anything wrong with you, but if for no other reason than you want to show your boyfriend how serious you a…

I should also add; her abuse is of course reason enough to leave. But even the fact that something happened that brought you to this emotional point, is reason enough to leave.

You are allowed to leave when this is what has happened. Go, take all the money you can, stay with a friend, get an apartment. You will feel better going to a home she's not in.

There's a legal precedent for this - it's called 'In loco parentis', or 'in place of a parent'. If someone is acting as a parent, under some conditions they can be considered as a parent under the law.

Well, I'm going to plainly ask why they changed it and refuse to change it back. I want a very good reason that isn't 'Because you're male.'

The problem here, of course, is a lawyer is tons of money for uncertain results.

yeah, I'd shut the captain up about trying to figure out who was more important to save, and get on a lifeboat. In reality, ships are supposed to have enough capacity of lifeboats/liferafts to handle 120% of the capacity of the ship, on either side of the ship. So this isn't the Titanic, there's enough lifeboats and liferafts. Such a distinction is unnecessary.

Yeah, approach her and talk about it plainly. If she refuses to take you seriously, put the tough question about 'when is it okay for me to rip your clothes off, then?'

Do that. You can always give her more access later. But honestly, Divorce is a wretched, wretched game. If you must play, play to win at all costs.

This, a thousand times this. You have to be prepared. I was not, and it took me five years of my life to get proper access to my children. Talk to a lawyer, get a custody agreement drawn up, serve her with papers, and leave with the kids. Play harnall right from the start, and it will be a shorter, more civil game.

Wow. As a Dad of two daughters the same age, I'm amazed. You don't deserve that. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but after her comment (which was so astronomically out of line) my temptation would have been to try to offend her just as much. My statement might have been, "oh? Well I believe the sandwiches, so get back in the kitchen and make me one." ...which probably would not have helped.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
