Yeah, I think that's well put. It pays to be just "bad" enough, on the surface, to be exciting and sexy. But underneath and long term, a genuinely good person.

The woman in that anecdote was already into him somewhat and had an obvious kink for that stuff. Don't do this at home unless both conditions apply.

I would never even think of going to my gf's most unethical friend to gather intel on her exes, what kind of paranoid and self-defeating impulse is that? Just to dig for something you can hold against her if you twist it enough? It baffles me how much work people can put into sabotaging their own happiness. Just be happy someone loves you and enjoy the sex, man, life can be good.

To "take sex seriously" to me means that you do it because you enjoy it and want it with the person in question, not withhold it as some form of tactical currency. The latter tells me that you don't really value sex as a fun and romantic activity, but rather use it as a means to an end.

Nah, you're way off there. If someone compliments your wife, does that ruffle your feathers or make you proud to have her? Being hit on in a respectful way is a form of compliment. As long as you're confident in your relationship, it's a win-win for you and your partner. Borderline cuckoldry maybe starts when you like to watch your girl actively flirt with other guys.

What kind of woman do you have who can't deal with that by herself? If someone hits on my girlfriend at a party, I pay attention and make sure she knows I'm around if she gets uncomfortable, but I actually enjoy it. It means she's hot and desired, and I feel all the better for being the one she chooses to be with.

Is this really about the wife's comfort and dignity, or more about the husband's perceived rights to what's his? The latter is cringe. You should at least ask your woman what she thinks about the situation. "This guy is staring at you, does it bother you? Do you want me to talk to him?" That way you show trust in your partner as well as readiness to guard her.

Unless you mentally engage and can have a somewhat interesting conversation about it later, watching TV/netflix is not a hobby, it's just killing time. TikTok is 100% just pissing life away. Going to bars can be somewhere between a highly social pastime and half-assed alcoholism. A hobby is something that requires a little investment, something you learn and could get better at.

Which is why the scale is a dubious way to conceptualize attractiveness. If you ask a hundred women to rate me, you'll probably get answers between 3 and 8, with my girlfriend thinking I'm super hot and many others not giving me a second look. After casually talking for just five minutes, many of those opinions would increase or decrease significantly, I've experienced both. It's unhelpful to put yourself in a box like that, people have radically different and sometimes really surprising taste.

Uni students are all physically in their prime and generally from secure and healthy family backgrounds, easily all in the top 5% of a bell curve. Also, your eyes are naturally drawn to attractive people, you overlook most of the average ones around them. That said, I don't think there is a grading scale that any two people could fully agree on. The entire concept is ridiculously superficial anyway, because the way people carry themselves and make conversation easily trumps any differentiation y…

Playing along with this analogy, the sleazy used car salesman doesn't care one bit about their mark, only that they pay full price for a shitty car. So he restricts himself to the most gullible and pathetic customer base by his choice of marketing tactics. Probably won't find repeat customers that way. Game and manipulation works if you just care about getting your dick wet at the expense of clueless or superficial women. If you aim for anything else, you need to find something real to love abou…

And I think you are talking about a caricature that doesn't exist. If you debate people in special forums that revolve around dating and relationships and casual hookup culture, of course sex will always be at the forefront. But it's a bit rich to assume that everyone venting here has nothing else on their mind the rest of the day.

I don't say anyone owes you fulfilment of higher needs, but it's silly to deny their normality and call them "obsessions". The need for sex, with all the physical and spiritual affection that is encoded in that word, is absolutely human. It is in fact tied to the only undeniable purpose evolution gave us. Just because you're not entitled to a fundamental human need doesn't make it an obsession to seek it.

What a senseless argument. So as long as you get food, water and shelter, the remainder of the pyramid of needs can be ignored? Bare survival is all a human being is entitled to? I guess slavery isn't all that bad then.

Settling means finding a way to see a future with the options you have, I would say. And if people on average end up less happy when they stay alone, as studies claim, it might be very beneficial to learn the wise art of settling. I think it was much more common before decades of marketing turn it into a synonym for losing out or making a bad deal. The entire slogan of my phone's manufacturer is "never settle" and I think it's an extremely bad philosophy.

But that's an example of insecurities being ruthlessly exploited, not demonized. The monstrous tech industry behind this actually loves these profitable insecurities and will always try to present them as valid and natural.

As always it's wrong to generalize, but I was thinking of women who fantasize obsessively about some Prince Charming or Mr. Right, someone to provide and be their rock to stand on, who they can call upon to make any bad situation go away - like a child sees their parents, especially a father figure. If they project these hyperreal tropes onto men they fancy, they're guaranteed to be disappointed by the slightest sign of weakness, insecurity or childishness, which we can hopefully agree are norma…

That's just not true. You can show interest in a woman from the start by making conversation and being a bit flirty, without putting the metaphorical gun to her head and asking her out in the first encounter. Lots of couples pop up around me where both people shared some regular social activity for an extended time and then got closer, it's entirely normal. I got into several relationships this way myself over the years.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/04/23 11:08 AM

That very last sentence contains the solution, at least if you're more interested in relationships than hook-ups. The gender ratio doesn't even have to be crazy, around 50:50 is fine. You just need a place where casual interactions naturally occur and where you meet the same new people often enough to build an initial connection. People get used to looks, familiarity makes everyone more visually attractive. And they get to see that personality we talk so much about. I've met most of my partners …

Positive feedback in this case just means the process of change is reinforcing itself indefinitely, spiraling away. Negative feedback would mean the change eats away at its own causes and settles in at some equilibrium not far from the baseline state.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/04/23 12:20 AM

What all of these have in common: The people in question had some shared activity that allowed them to vet each other over time, gauge each other's interest in a neutral setting, present their strengths, make some conversation etc before any asking out took place. Create some familiarity and baseline trust, then shoot your shot before things settle into friendzone territory. You have to truly botch it to come off as creepy in that setting. Do you get the impression that she is also looking for a serious relationship as the overarching goal of her dating life? If so, she didn't so much have an easy time finding free sex, but she failed multiple times to find what she wants. The sex she had along the way was a form of investment into potential relationships that didn't materialize, because those guys where not right for her. I also think it's a somewhat uncommon, but kinda normalized way for women to experience a new region. Doesn't change that she advertises a date on a dating platform, implying that a hookup or more is in the cards, to abuse the standard expectations placed on men in such settings, and the standard privileges of courted women. She probably has no intention of starting anything with any of those matches, so it's like she's running a rigged lottery. Basic swindle, kinda unethical, kinda ruins the da…

I'm not so sure. The poly relationship yes, but the lining up dates to see the sights is probably just good old exploitation of the needy. She won't have to pay in sex at the end of the day in those cases, plenty guys will just be lead on and then go home lonely.

Single people spend more, it's as simple as that. In a society entirely dominated by big corporate profit interests, of course there will be ever more destructive campaigns to turn deeply social creatures into isolated shallow consumerists.

Any slightly charismatic guy who is regularly hyped up to an audience containing millions of women will have a bunch of groupies who love fame and happen to like his type, it's just a numbers game at that point. I don't think you can draw any useful conclusion about "all", "most", "a majority of" or even "many" women from that. Even if a bunch of those groupies will be very hot, they're likely not women who would add quality to your life either.

I do, and it works alright. You can still be polite and respectful even while you're flirting and making a show and feeling out the chemistry. And for most men approaching most women, failing to do that gets you disqualified. If I were a woman, I would also reject anyone who acts inappropriately unless I already fancy them, and that last part is the crux for this specific topic.

I don't think many people expect women to be open to any random, repeated or very forward advances. Most understand that such behavior very quickly crosses into creepyness, stalking or harassment. The bitterness comes from seeing that some guys, through a mix of fortunate looks/charisma/choice of targets, can get away with this shitty behavior that should rightfully earn them a slap. We all know how this comes about, but it's also unsurprising that people playing by the normal rules of politenes…

No, you rejected the proposition that biological sex "kinda does influence" it. Nothing was said about "dictating" it. Biological sex obviously changes the hormone levels in your body, as anyone who has undergone puberty is well aware of. People with thyroid issues can have minor hormone imbalances that noticeably influence how they act. Injecting women with male testosterone levels, or men with female estrogen levels, would certainly change their internal state and influence personality. Not de…

Well, in essence they completely replaced the group "women in an intact marriage" with the group "women currently in a divorce-like stage" and then compared their happiness to singles. I would hazard the guess that people who are married, but estranged and not yet divorced, are on average in the worst and most taxing partnership stage. It must skew results heavily, but I'm also confused why OP didn't give us the updated results. This is the best I could find, following the links.

Nothing you can't pay for? This honestly sounds like in the process of cutting your losses, you've cut out a chunk of your own humanity. Having a good person in your life who trusts and loves you is not measurable in money. And you can have that without moving in together, it's possible. In the end of course you decide what you want and what compromises are ok for you, but opting out entirely sounds very harsh.

What's the percentage of people who are in a stable relationship? Do you think none of those men ever show weakness? Or is it more likely that women who leave guys for dumb reasons like that make up a significant proportion of the singles dating pool, exaggerating their abundance in you eyes as a single guy? I say you have to dodge these broken people, there are enough who don't act like that.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/03/23 12:39 PM

Not in this case. Imagine a woman in the explained model will always try to date one of the 10 hottest guys that are available to her. If she has Tinder and swipes on and off for a week that might be 10/1000 = 1%. If she only looks around in her uni classes and dorm, it may be 10/100 = 10%. If she only sees her few coworkers and maybe guys in her yoga class, it becomes 10/15 = 67% or something. The takeaway is to look for women who don't use an unnaturally large pool of men for dating, as you're…

"Being in love" is, psychologically, a type of delusion. A very beautiful experience, but not really coupled with reality. It's separate from actually liking or loving someone for who they are, because when you fall in love you don't fully see the other person for who they are. After the sparkles dissipate, you evaluate again and poke around a bit to find out if you actually love this person or just fancied them. What you experienced is her reaching this state earlier than you, I think. At least…

You got it wrong. Crying in front of your woman is an amazing shit test for men to perform. It will weed out the shit ones who would never have helped you through your own struggles anyway. But if she shows a positive, human reaction you know you have struck gold in some way.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/03/23 12:19 PM

Or maybe she also grew up and matured emotionally over the years? So the two sets of "what women want" you identify are just what messed up young women think they want versus what adult women want after working out some issues. I'm sure if she were to look for a new partner now, she wouldn't go back to the first set of wants.
/r/PurplePillDebate02/03/23 12:06 PM

Oh come on, lashing out with physical violence is not "what actual vulnerability looks like". It's the opposite: a desparate coping mechanism to hide vulnerable moments by overcompensating with aggression. The rulebook for sharing emotions with your partner is not unilateral either, like you said you also don't want her to scream and smash stuff when she's mad. Shitty abusive women are not acceptable, I guess they just look less problematic in comparison to the shitty men who end up punching the…

A guy who fights random objects because he cannot sort out or communicate his inner turmoil is a weak-ass loser. Maybe not exactly the "pussy" stereotype, but also not someone women can feel safe with or will have a lot of respect for.

What ridiculous nonsense. Most men I know do not act out physically when they are pissed, it's absolutely immature and frankly just weak behaviour. Get a grip, man up and say in clear terms what has you worked up. Women respect that a lot more than you acting like some emotionally stunted sperg. If you need to be left alone for a bit, say that. "do you want sex, or relationships? Which one?" If the question is really posed like this, as an either-or, it's weird and surely not representative of the majority understanding of relationships. However note this subtle difference: "Do you just want sex, or a relationship? Which is it?" That's a totally reasonable question. I think romantic relationships where both sides are truly attracted to each other but sex is no part of the equation are very unusual. Not wrong, just unusual. Sometimes it…

I disagree with this framing. Sexual intimacy isn't an additional thing on top, it is a normal component that is generally implied in a romantic relationship. Specifically staying sex-less, while absolutely valid, is the additional clarification that needs to be communicated. At least for grownups.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/02/23 03:52 PM

I think the confusion you’re having is mostly that sometimes (mostly) men here talk about a relationship as if it is primarily about access to sex Yeah that's not good. It's probably because the non-sexual needs a relationship fulfills can be somewhat approximated with close friends and family as well, but meeting the sexual needs with casual encounters is only possible for a minority of men. So lonely men can find scraps of companionship, but they come to see a relationship as the only way to f…

Most women are miserable dates, and most men are as well. The frustration goes both ways and you can read endless rants on either side. You just have to accept that most people aren't a match for you, even if there's initial attraction, because most people simply have an irreconcilable set of character flaws between them. Citation needed, lol. Since I was born, the US has waged war on brown civilians every single year in some miserable corner of the planet while all the true Marxist governments have long been overthrown by CIA and China/Russia rarely step away from their immediate borders.

Yeah. There is some discussion to be had about whether China is economically left in some ways, but Russia is rampant oligarch capitalism with a president who named Pinochet as one of his role models when he started out.

"Your loss, but go and do what you think makes you happy" A healthy and compatible sex life is one of the main pillars of a successful relationship. We have to get a feel for each other before making actual commitments, and I would say sex is part of the dating process and "compatibility check". If she doesn't have a sex drive of her own, or worse she suppresses it in order to play weird power games, we won't be a good fit. I don't really understand why a woman would decide that way, but then ag…

but this is what she actually looks like without make up. That is not a beautiful woman What in the everloving fuck are you on about, that is a naturally very beautiful face for someone nearing 50.

Maybe being the expected dominant partner just isn't your thing if all that initiative and decision-making stress you out. Maybe you would find more pleasure being dominated by a confident woman? Might be worth a try.

Bunch of absolute spergs in here not once considering that people might be in a relationship for reasons beyond looks. Even shallow people who aren't virgins know that looks are not what makes the sex good.

However, I wouldn't say they prove TRP because those men completely pedestalize the female protagonist, something TRP rejects. Red pill guys tend to reject this behavior from a male perspective. But the observation that many women like to fantasize about being put on a pedestal by a high status man, that is completely congruent with the red pill stuff I have seen.

Or the other way around. He's a lawyer, but it wasn't his choice and with the help of my love we will find a way to keep it under control!

Good point. Just like Fast&Furious movies only tell you something about a specific segment of the male population. And yeah, OP made zero distinction between social commentary or literary works on one hand, and guilty-pleasure wish-fulfillment pulp on the other.

Men just fantasize about hot chicks, good girl, bad girl it doesn't matter. Tell that to the hordes who get mad when someone makes unseemly comments about their waifu. Or the twats who play "fuck/marry/kill". Or the guys who want a well-trained sex slave that is also still a virgin. Men definitely have varied and even contradictory desires as well when looking for a partner. I know I do.

All of these stories are printed to demand or delivered electronically. The publishers don't decide how much of which work is consumed, it's the mass audience that laps certain things up and sets the precedent for bestseller or blockbuster content.

Come on, first the cuck porn and now this. The existence of arcane and radical niche expressions, which most people have never even heard of, has no bearing on questions of popular taste and typical desires. We are hopefully all aware that life is a rich tapestry and these discussions here use very broad strokes.

Yeah and that's the fantasy, to have the cake and eat it too. You get a high status man who is outwardly superior, but he is secretly just troubled enough that you (and only you, because no one else sees it!) can bind him unconditionally by supplying that magical missing piece for his soul. It makes perfect sense as a romantic fantasy, we all know it doesn't usually translate to real life, the question is how much the actual and ideal behavior of men and women irl is and should be shaped by this…

As I answered at another point as well, the book doesn't really prove or disprove anything in this discourse, because it is an intellectual work separate from the stream of impulsive mass consumption that OP actually meant.

Yeah the book was a bad example in every way. It goes against all the tropes, like you laid out, but it also isn't a guilty pleasure bestseller marketed to women who want their monthly low-brow romance novel fix.

Let's be real here. If you want to define people by their fantasies you should be willing to do that to yourself. I think we should absolutely do that, and it would actually help the discourse immensely. The fantasies that are bestsellers among men say a lot about what men are wishing for, on average, and the same is true among women. About Pride and Prejudice: I thought what you describe is specifically applauded as a subversion of the common trope, ie a bit like the exception that confirms the…

In addition to the entertainment value, men who play CoD very obviously use it as a vent to indulge in unconscious desires and thoughts that would be disastrous in real life. And of course this hints at a well-known pattern of aggression, risk-taking and dominance that exists in the male population in our culture and regularly leads to drama. I think the themes and feelings we seek out in media are generally related to what drives us under the hood, there's no shame in admitting that.

Every girl has already dated their version of the romance novel trope, and it always ends terribly But this partially supports the point OP was trying to make, doesn't it? That there is an unconscious pull towards these types, and it's a learning experience to stay away from them and banish these dynamics to the book shelf?
/r/PurplePillDebate12/11/22 03:01 AM

But in all cases it is about a man of high perceived status, who is initially portrayed as mysterious, somewhat scary and potentially unsafe. Not "bad boy", but there is a pattern that probably doesn't translate into the wisest real-world dating guidelines.

I think that's already the "pre-tamed" male fantasy for boys who learned basic decency from their mothers. There are enough assholes out there who wouldn't relate too much to that, and care more about validation of their imagined alpha status. Like most of the action heros of previous decades, who tend to win the damsels admiration by being a fearsome and assertive protector type.

The point is that admitting the existence of this dynamic would force her to reevaluate a lot of her friendships in an uncharitable way. It's natural to avoid this, cognitive dissonance and all. I also think that in the majority of such cases, the women are fairly oblivious to the toxic dynamic and just feel like that's what a male best friend is supposed to be like. They don't like to see themselves as exploiters of a relationship, so their mind never even goes there. Just like many shitty men …

that isn’t just for a career it could be for retirement or for family formation or saving up to buy a home Are you aware that most people under 30 will never see a penny in retirement because we're headed for societal collapse within the next 30 years? I wouldn't blame anyone for focusing on shorter term goals, to the point where I find really long term plans to be delusional with how the world is going.

Maybe you just need to improve at debating? I have had good success helping feminists in my friend circle see beyond the dumb idpol and understand men's point of view. It took more than one talk, and some charity on my part, but I also learned something in the exchange - because you and me also face the choice you write about, and are prone to bias like every other human.
