Anyone taken their ex back to court to lower alimonyNot in CA but in UT and I was able to successfully terminate alimony 2.5 years after divorce. She got a new job and went from 40k per year to 110k per year. I argued there was no need for alimony anymore. It took 2 years to fight, but the day of trial she finally agreed to terminate. | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/03/26 11:37 PM
This is pettyI was able to successfully terminate my spousal support since the ex got a new job making 110k. She went from 36k to 110k. I argued that the need for spousal support was not there anymore. It took almost 2 years to get it modified but the morning of trial she finally agreed to terminate alimony. I was supposed to pay for 12 years. Only had to pay 2.5 years. | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/02/26 12:50 AM

How much alimony?Utah here as well. I wouldn’t have agreed to the equity. I was ordered to pay for 12 years. I was able to terminate after 2.5 years. Utah alimony is based on need. Get her working and working a good job. My ex went from 36k per year to 110k per year. I was paying 3500 per month. I filed to terminate and she fought for 2 years. Finally the morning of trial she agreed to terminate alimony back to the date I filed. | /r/Divorce_Men | 23/10/25 07:52 PM
How much are you paying and why?I went from paying 3500 per month in alimony and child support to now she has to pay me 388 a month in child support. I was supposed to pay 2200 a month in alimony for 12 years. I was married for 24 years. 2 years in and she got a much better job. I filed to terminate alimony as she doesn’t need it anymore. Of course she fought it. It took almost 2 years to go to trial for it. During that time, she got an even better job making 110k per year. The morning of trial she finally agreed to terminate … | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/07/25 06:33 PM

Alimony & BitternessI was supposed to pay alimony for 12 years. After 2.5 years I petitioned the court to terminate it as she was making over 110k per year now and no longer had a need for it. She fought it for almost 2 years before she agreed the morning of trial to terminate it. The greed and entitlement of her was extreme. We both spent a ton on legal fees just for her to agree anyways. I am more bitter about the process that I had to go through when I made a reasonable offer to begin with. | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/01/25 08:45 PM
Am I being too nice? Why can’t the kids stay in the house with you and you continue to pay the mortgage? Why do you have to leave? | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/11/24 08:28 PM
My wife wants a divorceIn utah the first thing that alimony is based on is need. You need to get her working asap. 50/50 is pretty much standard now, don’t let her try to have you give that up. Once she is working and only has the kids half the time, there should be no need for alimony and very little child support. I am in Utah and I was able to terminate alimony after 2 years because my ex got a job making 110k. There was no need anymore. Make sure you prove that her expenses are not more than her income then there … | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/08/24 05:09 AM
Alimony For a working spouse that has her MASTERS Degree.I went through a divorce here in Utah and an alimony modification. Utah alimony is based on needs. Her income plus child support, minus her expenses. If she has no need for alimony she won’t get it. It’s part of the statute. I got divorced in 2019. My ex at the time was only making 36k per year. I had to pay 2148 in alimony for 12 years and 1390 in child support for 2 kids. 2 years later she got a job making 110k. I filed to terminate alimony as she no longer had a need for alimony. Of course sh… | /r/Divorce_Men | 26/07/24 07:26 PM
Having Lunch with my STBX todayDon’t do this. I met with my ex before mediation for dinner. She totally led me on. I thought that if was nice in mediation that we could get back together. I agreed to way much more than I should have. Now 4 years post divorce I am going back to court to get my kids more and not to pay her so much. She is not your friend anymore let alone your lover. | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/04/24 06:41 PM
Need advice on what my options are dividing the marital home.If you lived in the home for 2 of the last 5 years then there is no capital gains tax. Doesn’t matter if you buy something new or not. You just have to have lived in the home for 2 years. | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/07/23 07:35 PM

Future proof my next marriage? No you don’t have to live in Nevada. But you do need a Nevada trustee to manage for irrevocable. It is my attorney that has an office in Nevada. It is Nevada law and Nevada case law that protects. It has been tested in Nevada but not outside of Nevada yet in case law. | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/08/22 08:19 PM
Future proof my next marriage?Get an irrevocable trust in Nevada. Nevada trust law specifically protects against child support and alimony claims. You must have had the trust for 2 years to be fully protected. This is for bank accounts and other brokerage accounts. Get a living trust for property that is separate. Do not own anything in your name. | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/08/22 07:41 PM
