It’s not about how much money a person makes, but about the severity of the crime, the probability of flight, and prior convictions. I never said it was punishment. I argued that it isn’t based on income. If it were, then a millionaire accused of shoplifting would get a $50,000 bond for shoplifting while a homeless robbery suspect would be released on their personal recognizance since they have no income.
