I like this. I always thought of them as stolen moments but being intentional about them is a great re-framing exercise. Thanks for sharing.

3 per DAY? If I wasn't sitting down I would've fallen over. Lol. I was reading your sentence thinking it would end with ... per month, or maybe per week if you're being extra optimistic. Clearly, I need to reevaluate my life.

>Since mothering is no longer revered or understood to be something a woman would want to do, let alone should do, women are surprised to discover how heart-wrenching it is to leave their babies and return to work. They’re surprised to discover that work isn’t nearly as satisfying as they were led to believe. This was my experience 100%. I never wanted children. I got pregnant by accident at 31 and decided "if not now, when?" Surprise, surprise - going back to work was awful and I hated it. And,…

You know, you asked for advice and you're getting it - it just isn't what you want to hear, or what you were hoping for. Nobody can tell you what to do and how to live your life. We're all just strangers on the internet, and ultimately, your choices are yours alone. But when you have the opportunity to listen to people who have more life experience, and if several people bring up the same issue, you might want to listen to what they have to say, and re-examine things.

I don't want to sound like an ass here, but to me it's a huge red flag that he adopted RP values after being abused by a woman. I would run, not walk. There are huge distinctions between being a natural leader, in a way, vs trying to build yourself up, or something, in retaliation for being treated poorly beforehand by a woman. Perhaps your family and friends are seeing this distinction and you don't. He can call it RP all he wants, I'm guessing some of how he treats you would qualify as abuse.

I read your comment and offered him a warm tea last night. He didn't want to be touched because he said he was grumpy (not at me) but he accepted wine and had a hot shower and seemed a bit more relaxed before bed. He took a tea with him this morning though so this is good! Thanks.

Thanks for this. I will reiterate to him that I'm supportive of whatever he wants to do. I don't want to see him miserable. I need to crunch some numbers but I'm trying to figure out whether I could support us on my salary once I return to work full time. He was a SAHD until our oldest was almost 4 and it worked really well for us with him running the show, essentially. I brought in the money but he managed almost everything else and it was tight, but he was happier.

This is excellent, thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this out. The no kids yelling thing is great. Usually he comes home and they greet him happily... but within a few minutes the oldest is acting up because he wants attention i guess. I'll try to be more mindful of this.

I mean, that's easily resolved by wearing waterproof/smudgeproof mascara and using a good makeup remover. Agreed, you should at least have a sense of what his reasons are. And you should feel comfortable and safe enough to express to him just how much wearing makeup is linked to your ability to feel good about yourself. If it's going to be causing you distress to not wear it, that's going to be a problem, and it will only get worse. Ultimately, you know your relationship dynamics best. Good luck…

I totally understand where you're coming from and I agree that overriding a simple preference isn't a breach of trust in itself. The way OP explained it though, it didn't seem like just a preference for her. It seemed linked to self confidence and ability to feel good in her own skin as she gets older. And, these kinds of feelings can and do cause psychological damage longterm. That also all depends on OP's mental health and resilience as well. Of course, I cannot speak for OP. I just sensed a g…

It's about how you feel when wearing just a bit of makeup. I would tell him what you said here, that it makes you feel better about yourself as you enter your 30s. Ultimately I feel this comes down to respect. In a loving healthy relationship, people listen to each other. I get you're in a TPE, but as I'm sure you're aware, the very basis of a TPE is respect, trust, and consent. Explain it in a way that he understands just how important this is to you. If ultimately the answer is still no - unle…

I think this is an incredibly important point.

I'm exhausted with this. It sounds like you can't do anything right... because he doesn't really want you to do anything right.

I was vehemently opposed to children as well. Then when I turned 30 a switch flipped. I had my first at 32 and regret not doing it a decade earlier.

I love this idea. Can you give me examples of the types of meals you prep?

I think there's also a difference between men being intimidated and men being shy/lacking confidence and therefore not knowing how to approach the opposite sex.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
